Warhammer 40: Saviors Emerging from the Bottom

With a hiss, Arya's psionic lightning pierced through the last few plague walkers blocking their path, and the group stopped a dozen steps away from the wall of fire.

The heat waves from the fire scorched Xiao Yi's face; at this temperature, a normal person would surely be burned to ashes if they went in.

But they had no choice but to force their way in; the survivors inside would never put themselves in danger of being wiped out at any moment for the sake of a few strangers.

"I can use my psionic powers to take one person through first."

Aria's suggestion gave Xiao Yi, who was having a headache, a breakthrough in the problem.

"How do I do it?"

"I can just wrap the two of them in psionic energy to insulate them from the heat. I can't control it precisely right now, so I can only bring one more person."

"Alright, you take Charles in first, and I'll take care of the rest."

Arya nodded, reached out and grabbed Charles, who was closest to her, and walked over. Under the watchful eyes of the others, the flames completely engulfed the two of them.

Even a simpleton with little psychic talent could clearly see the psychic light emanating from Arya and Char, which was what isolated them from the deadly heat around them.

A few seconds later, Charles's voice, still shaken, came from behind the wall of fire: "It worked."

Matthias, who had been somewhat worried, breathed a sigh of relief. He reached into his waistband, took out the last incendiary grenade, pulled out the safety pin, and threw it over.

With a loud bang, the plague zombies in front of them were instantly ignited, and the powerful impact created an open area in front of Xiao Yi and his group.

"We should go too."

"Okay, everyone put your hands on me, and hurry up."

Xiao Yi looked at the wall of fire in front of him with some nervousness. After all, this was the first time he had done something like this, and he was doing it with three other people.

If he fails, he might only suffer minor injuries, but others might be in a different situation.

"No problem."

Blue psionic light emanated from Xiao Yi, then flowed along the arms of the others and enveloped them.

To put his mind at ease, Xiao Yi reached out and tested the temperature before entering the wall of fire.

It wasn't hot at all, so there seemed to be no problem. He then led the remaining three people inside.

The plague-ridden walkers, hot on their heels, had no intention of giving up their prey. However, these brain-dead creatures seemed oblivious to the terror of the wall of fire before them, and all the walkers that rushed in were instantly reduced to ashes.

When the flames subsided, what appeared before Xiao Yi and his group was a heavily fortified defensive position. Aria and Charles, who had arrived earlier, stood there warily, confronting the survivors of the warehouse.

"Leave this to me." Mattia put away his laser gun and walked towards the survivors' location.

"Don't come any closer!"

"I am Matthias Maxwell, an Anglican minister, ordered by the governor to investigate possible heresy within the Lower Nest. They are all my subordinates. Now, soldiers, tell me, what exactly is happening here?"

The soldiers in front of them didn't seem to buy into Matthias's explanation. They simply replied that they knew and then told Xiao Yi and the others to wait there.

Xiao Yi stood there quietly watching. If Matthias could resolve the issue non-violently, that would be best. If he couldn't, then it would be his turn to intervene.

Two minutes later, an elderly nun with a full head of white hair came out of the warehouse.

Xiao Yi was able to confirm that the fierce old woman carrying a shotgun who appeared in front of him was a nun because she was wearing a classic nun's habit that had been around for tens of thousands of years. He never expected that this style could still be preserved.

"Matthia, didn't you go to participate in the purification ceremony? Why are you back again?"

"The situation is a bit complicated and can't be explained in a short time. Let's talk about it when we have time. Could you tell me what the situation is now regarding the nest being descended?"

Oh, the two know each other, so things will be easier from here on out. Xiao Yi's tense muscles relaxed for the time being.

"The situation is just as you see it now. Twenty days ago, that strange plague took away almost half of the lives of the lower nest. They will attack everyone they see until the other person becomes one of them."

The old nun's gaze swept past Matthias, scrutinizing the faces of Xiao Yi and the other strangers. After confirming that they did not exhibit any of the characteristics that might appear after contracting the plague, she secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"If you want to stay, then stay. But you must undergo inspection. After all, there are still quite a few survivors in this warehouse, and they won't feel comfortable letting you stay if you don't comply with the inspection."

"I have other things to attend to, so I'll be leaving now." With that, the old nun turned and left without looking back.

Watching the other person leave, Xiao Yi whispered to Matthias, "Do you know her?"

"Cecilia, the former mentor in charge of training newcomers at the church, looks rather fierce, but she is actually very kind-hearted. She likes to take her students to the Lower Nest to provide free medical care for sick residents. That's probably why she's here."

"Stop talking, take off all your clothes, we need to do a routine check." The soldier who suddenly appeared interrupted their conversation.

"Take them all off."

"That's right, take them all off."

Seeing the serious expression on the other party's face, Xiao Yi knew that the other party would not back down. It was nothing for several men to be seen naked, but there was also a girl in the group who looked quite young.

Xiao Yi pointed at Ailiya and said, "Could we find a few women to examine her? After all, she's a girl, and it's not very elegant for her to take off her clothes in front of a group of men."

Then he asked a question that he was particularly interested in: "How many people are here in the warehouse right now?"

Raymond didn't hide anything from his future companions.

"If you include the few of you, the number will reach 1,524, most of whom are able-bodied men. With enough weapons, we can form an army."

"Having enough weapons means you don't actually have enough weapons right now?"

"This is just a small warehouse storing corundum. We are just workers in a corpse starch factory. Where would we get so many weapons?"

"Besides chromium, are there any other useful materials here?"

"There is still some steel, but without machines and furnaces, it is impossible to turn it into weapons."

"That's not necessarily true."

Redmond looked at Xiao Yi, who was now dressed, and asked, somewhat puzzled, "What did you say?"
