Warhammer 40: Saviors Emerging from the Bottom
Chapter 81 Missiles and Artillery
Compared to the Imperial transport ships modified with the advice of the Great Tech Master, the Greenskins' Combat Moon has been upgraded by more than one level in both attack and defense.
The psionic shields created by hundreds of millions of Orks are enough to block most of the Imperial Mankind's conventional weapons, making it virtually impossible to break through their defenses in one strike.
Only by concentrating a large number of attacks on a single point on the shield, creating a breach, can the missiles fired by the Starport Defense System hope to leave a mark on the Greenskins' Battlemoon.
Liu Yi, who personally oversaw the command at the front lines, was well aware of this.
Even before Hograk ordered the attack, he instructed his Mechanicus sages to figure out the weakest point of the shield in order to gain the initiative in the war.
Unfortunately, the Mechanicus Sage, on whom he had placed high hopes, was busy for eleven Terras but still could not deduce the result. His own logic engine even entered a brief hibernation state due to overheating.
It is obviously unlikely that one can deduce a non-scientific result using scientific methods.
Finally, having no other option, the Supreme Lord of Cinnabar had to rely on his intuition to choose a coordinate.
The launch command was translated into binary language by the Mechanicus priest and input into the missile launch system. The Destroyer missile, carrying a miniature nuclear warhead, hurtled toward the outer shield of the battle moon according to its pre-calculated trajectory.
Of course, the greens wouldn't stand still and take the beating. They launched countless missiles from missile launchers made of steel, stone, and animal bones to intercept the attack.
Unlike the Empire's missiles, which possess precision-guided systems, the Orks only launch bombs equipped with propulsion systems.
Their trajectories were completely illogical, and some even collided and exploded prematurely.
With such precision, the base's defense system could not possibly stop the missiles carrying miniature nuclear warheads. Accompanied by the high temperature and shock waves generated by atomic fission, mushroom clouds rose one after another from the shield surrounding the battle moon.
Such a spectacular scene allowed the Imperial soldiers who were waiting for the Greenskins to arrive to breathe a sigh of relief.
With such powerful weapons, the upcoming battles shouldn't be too difficult.
These soldiers, who had never witnessed the cruel truth of the universe in their lives, simply couldn't understand that a loud explosion and killing people were two completely different things.
A powerful Chaos Wizard can silently take the lives of thousands with just a wave of his hand, which is far more efficient than any weapon made by humans.
As the dazzling light from the miniature nuclear explosion faded, the intact battle moon reappeared in the holographic projection at the command center.
Looking at the unchanged shield, Liu Yi said in a deep voice, "Not even a nuclear bomb can stop it?"
"In fact, it is possible, but the damage would be too small to be of any use against the shields made by the greenskins. It would only take three hours, eleven minutes and twenty-one seconds of continuous bombardment with the same power to break through the alien's defenses."
The second-in-command of the local Mechanic Church of Aurora, who was temporarily acting as the lord's private advisor in place of the chief sage, analyzed the situation earnestly.
A large amount of data flashed before his eyes. According to the logic engine, the possibility of completing the above suggestion was almost zero. Liu Yi simply couldn't produce that many miniature nuclear bombs. Even if the Mechanicus's production plants were running around the clock, it wouldn't be enough.
Moreover, manufacturing these sophisticated missiles requires extreme care; a single oversight could send the entire production plant flying.
"Damn, those annoying aliens."
Feeling a tightness in his chest, Liu Yi clenched his right fist and slammed it hard on the armrest of the chair. The increasingly worsening situation told him that Zhen Dan could not weather this crisis alone and had to seek help from other imperial worlds.
However, the Supreme Lord of Cinnabar's own pride instinctively resisted this matter; he did not want to show his most vulnerable side to anyone.
Recalling his recent appointment as governor and his vow to restore Aurora's former glory, Liu Yi's inner resentment grew stronger.
However, as a victor who survived the brutal inheritance war, Liu Yi knew very well that saving face could not solve any problems, and only by being shameless could one live longer.
Taking a deep breath to calm his agitated emotions, he said to his adjutant beside him, "We cannot win this war on our own. We must find a way to seek help from other imperial worlds. I am willing to accept any price to pay."
"But after the Greenskins appeared, the communication signals in the vicinity have been unstable, making it difficult to contact other governors."
Liu Yi sighed softly and said, "Do your best. The others aren't blind."
"Even at its peak, Bactria couldn't withstand such a massive Greenskin invasion, let alone now?"
"If we let China fall, it won't be long before their trump cards are covered with annoying green mushrooms. Anyone with a sound mind won't ignore it."
After listening to Liu Yi's analysis, the adjutant nodded, glanced at the holographic projection in front of him, and then turned and left.
After a moment of silence, Liu Yi issued his second order: "Notify the Starport garrison to cease bombing and reserve all missiles for the Greenskins' landing forces. I refuse to believe they can control such a large meteorite to crash into us."
He was gambling that the orc warlords on the other side weren't crazy enough to use meteorites to crash into the planet.
This is a typical cognitive error. Many humans, when dealing with aliens, impose their own thought patterns on them, assuming that the aliens would make the same decisions in the same situation.
In fact, manipulating a battle moon to collide with a planet is something that greens are capable of doing. These creatures, who seem so audacious that they appear somewhat dim-witted, often lose their lives because of a sudden flash of inspiration.
Fortunately, the warlord Hograk, who called himself an "orc tactician," opposite Liu Yi, did not think of this. Otherwise, no one would know in which direction the battle would have developed.
After Starport's firepower weakened, the Greenskins began to attempt a counterattack.
The giant mortar, several kilometers in diameter and installed in a deep pit on the surface, used the powerful impact of the explosion of a large amount of gunpowder to launch a meteorite that the orc tech kid had captured using a gravity-guided beam.
Several hundred fearless orc lads, swayed by a certain brilliant strategist, attempted to stand on it and rush into the starport with the meteorite.
They seemed to have forgotten one thing: they could die. So the moment the meteorite burst out of the cannon barrel, dozens of black unidentified objects fell off the meteorite.
"How...how is this possible?"
The mechanical priest in charge of operating the missile interception system momentarily lost his train of thought after seeing the target that needed to be destroyed on the reconnaissance equipment.
Based on his knowledge of physics, the energy required to propel such a massive meteorite was enough to pulverize it.
In other words, the green-skinned cannon could not possibly fire successfully.
In response, Orc Grandmaster said that the shrimp was too stupid. How could something as big as a meteorite be reduced to pieces by a small explosion?
