The Wizard: Starting with Infinite Part-Time Jobs

Chapter 31 Language Barrier, Clues

The "bang bang bang" sound was particularly clear in the quiet room, and some silvery-white powder appeared on the inner wall of the glass bottle.

A nearly transparent butterfly, its form appearing and disappearing, flutters its wings incessantly inside a glass bottle.

"It really is a spatial phantom butterfly. My guess was right." Aiden's face was full of surprise, his eyes fixed on the glass bottle.

"This thing is incredibly rare; it hasn't appeared on the mainland for hundreds of years. It's an endangered species," Aiden speculated, bringing the glass bottle closer to his eyes. "But every time it appears, it makes a 'ding-a-ling' sound, which inadvertently reveals its location."

Aiden kept shaking and shaking, rapidly swirling the glass bottle between his hands.

The shape of the spatial butterfly became clearer and clearer, and the patterns on its wings slowly appeared.

"It worked as expected. According to the Encyclopedia of Biology of the Ring Continent, the Space Butterfly is most afraid of unstable spatial forms. I kept shaking the space inside the glass bottle, and I expect there will be some different changes."

"As for this lid, I absolutely dare not open it. If it escapes, I will never be able to catch it again. Fortunately, this spatial butterfly doesn't have much offensive power and is still in its juvenile stage; otherwise, a glass bottle wouldn't have been able to trap it. The paralyzing effect of the trapping agent must have played a significant role as well."

Aiden only stopped shaking when the butterfly appeared.

This is a pure white butterfly, with extremely beautiful patterns on its body and two pairs of antennae.

It was lying at the bottom of the glass bottle, looking somewhat tired, with its tentacles drooping.

"Where did you hide Quillins' body?" Aiden frowned, banging on the glass bottle until his knuckles turned red, and began his interrogation.

The spatial butterfly raised its antennae, seemingly understanding Aiden's question, and began tapping the glass bottle with its antennae.

"What do you mean?" Aiden frowned even more, looking puzzled.

He didn't know the language of the butterfly.

However, based on his advanced animal behavior knowledge, he could roughly sense that the spatial virtual butterfly was acting somewhat anxiously.

However, animal behavior is not a panacea, and its specific message remains unclear.

Aiden crossed his arms, tilted his head, and continued, "I don't understand what you're trying to say, but if you want me to release you, that's impossible."

The spatial illusion continued to tap the glass bottle, and the tendrils swayed more violently.

Clearly, it understands what Aiden is saying.

"They're really smart. This is the first time I've ever seen a creature that can understand human speech, at least I haven't seen one before. Even the creatures in Ms. Ollie's lab can only roughly understand what I'm trying to say." Aiden's face showed an expression of disbelief.

Aiden and the spatial butterfly talked several more times, but they still couldn't solve the communication problem.

"Forget it, we can't communicate, and I don't dare let you out. I'm busy, and I won't waste my time on you. Just stay inside. Every wrong has its perpetrator, and every debt its debtor. If you starve to death, then I'll consider it revenge for Quillins," Aiden said with a sigh, his face filled with helplessness.

He felt that his abilities were still limited.

If it were Ms. Ollie, she would most likely be able to solve this communication problem.

There are even ways to completely trap this spatial butterfly, preventing it from escaping.

"It's still a lack of knowledge. Knowledge determines everything. If I could understand the language of this spatial butterfly, then the communication problem could be solved."

"However, I won't tell Ms. Ollie about this spatial butterfly, otherwise it will be difficult to explain to her how I captured it. That might expose my trump card, the bio-radar."

Just as he turned around, the glass bottle behind him emitted a dazzling light, which grew brighter and brighter until Aiden could hardly open his eyes. He quickly shielded his eyes with his hand.

A milky white light followed the glass bottle, connecting Aiden with the spatial butterfly inside.

"What's going on?" Aiden was startled and jerked back, but he was not injured.

A weak voice appeared in my mind: "Dad?"

Aiden: "???"

What the hell?

His body stiffened, his face filled with astonishment.

He looked back at the glass bottle and saw that the shape of the spatial butterfly had become illusory again, and its whole body was trembling.

It looked like it had expended a lot of energy; even the frequency of its wing flapping had slowed down.

"Are you calling me?" Aiden leaned forward, getting closer to the glass bottle, and asked loudly.

"Dad?" The weak voice continued.

"I'm not your father, we're not the same species." Aiden was completely taken aback.

Aiden realized that the intelligence of this spatial butterfly was like that of a newborn baby.

……

After several rounds of conversation, Aiden noticed that the Space Butterfly was in a really bad state.

Its body became increasingly ethereal, almost disappearing completely, and its tentacles drooped limply.

Aiden sighed helplessly and simply admitted the unfortunate fact that it was his father's fault.

It disconnects from the milky white light of unknown effect that is connected to it.

It took some more time to gain its basic trust, and after hesitating for a while, I released the spatial butterfly.

The latter flapped its wings and floated to Aiden's shoulder as if it were nothing, before finally landing.

Aiden discovered that after advancing to become a [Black Market Beast Fighter], the time it took to build trust with unfamiliar creatures was greatly shortened.

"Good daughter, bring back the corpse of my friend that you transformed away before." Aiden touched the tentacles of the spatial butterfly.

"Okay..." The spatial butterfly gently shook its head, and its antennae swayed along with it.

Then, a twisted ripple appeared on its antennae.

Aiden stared intently at the tentacle, not daring to blink.

boom!

Quillins' body lay on the floor of Aiden's room, just as it had been when he disappeared that day.

Aiden was startled by the noise, and his body trembled violently.

"Daughter, be more careful next time," Aiden admonished, his face darkening. "We should handle things gently."

A faint voice continued to echo in Aiden's mind.

"I know... Dad. He smells... nice, even better than a glass bottle."

……

Aiden looked at the newly reburied mound of earth before him. The soil around it was still somewhat loose, and a few blades of grass were bent crooked under its weight. He knew that this mound would be Quillins' final resting place.

"Quellins has been gone from me for a while now," Aiden sighed, his face full of melancholy. "Quellins, rest in peace here."

He turned and left, and the spatial butterfly perched on Aiden's shoulder, its antennae trembling.

Aiden reached out and touched the wings of the spatial butterfly; they felt icy cold.

"Xiaodie, what were you referring to when you said he smelled like that? Why couldn't I smell it?"

"Little Butterfly" was the name Aiden gave her after arguing with the Space Butterfly on the road.

The latter can still call him dad, but Aiden no longer calls her daughter.

"Dad, I...don't know either, he...smells nice."

The spatial butterfly replied, its antennae tapping Aiden's cheek.
