The Wizard: Starting with Infinite Part-Time Jobs
Chapter 52 Vares, 1-Star Scout
Aiden stood up and muttered to himself, "Although it doesn't seem very useful right now, it's always good to have more skills. Who knows, it might come in handy someday. Anyway, I have the professional limit-breaking ability."
Aiden said with a slight smile on his face.
He quickly reported to the animal waiter that he had disassembled the chair and paid the fine.
While paying the fine, Aiden shook his head helplessly, muttering, "At least it fulfills my wish from over a year ago to take this chair apart."
……
The experimental area, Ms. Ollie's laboratory.
The laboratory was filled with a faint smell of biological feed, and the various experimental equipment was arranged in a somewhat messy manner.
Aiden was preparing a biological meal, his hands moving quickly between various containers and tools, mixing different ingredients together in proportion.
Just then, the garden gate was suddenly pushed open with a loud bang, and a hoarse, arrogant voice came out.
Aiden flinched, nearly dropping the tools in his hands.
His face instantly darkened, his brows furrowed tightly, and he looked out the window.
A tall, formal wizard apprentice was seen impatiently shouting, "Hurry up, I'm here for the Honey Pot Bear."
His voice was so loud that it shook the windows of the laboratory.
"Who are you?" Aiden asked bluntly.
"Vares, Mr. Ironbeard's new assistant, sent me to collect the Honey Pot Bear. Have you fed it?"
The tall, formal wizard apprentice spoke without any politeness, his arms crossed, chin held high, and eyes full of disdain.
"Damn it," Aiden cursed inwardly, "Even an assistant is trying to trample on me now?"
Although I was already furious inside.
But Aiden quickly took a deep breath, forced a smile, and said, "I understand."
Then, Aiden walked somewhat reluctantly to Honeybee's car and slowly pushed it with both hands.
Vares glanced at Aiden, stepped forward, grabbed Honeybee's cart with both hands, and shoved it away.
Vares is an old man who became a full-fledged wizard apprentice several years ago. Unlike Aiden, who is the latest to be promoted, he is a seasoned veteran.
He could see that without Ms. Ollie in charge, the laboratory had no future.
Putting aside the fact that Mr. Ironbeard was standing behind him, his mastery of non-elemental magic arrows alone was far beyond what a newcomer like Aiden could match.
If Aiden dares to get angry with him or show him any displeasure, he will teach Aiden a lesson without hesitation!
But I never expected Aiden to be such a weak person.
Vares's lips curled into a mocking smile as he thought, "That's even better, saves me from wasting my mana."
Watching Vares' departing figure, Aiden was filled with rage. His face turned red, the veins on his forehead bulged, and his hands clenched into fists again.
He also left the laboratory, his steps hurried.
He planned to find out where Vares lived and then kill him in the middle of the night.
"If I can't kill that old dog Mr. Ironbeard, I can't kill you?"
……
At this moment, at Haske's residence.
The surroundings were completely silent, with only the rustling sound of the wind blowing through the leaves.
Although he had been missing for some time, there was no confirmation of his death.
Therefore, his residence remains intact.
A figure crept in furtively; it was Henry of the Ash Brigade.
Henry crouched low, his steps light and careful, as if afraid of making the slightest sound.
He then searched the entire residence inside and out, including the garden outside and every corner inside.
The things were turned upside down and made a mess.
"That guy's pretty shrewd; he's already had all his property stolen," Henry of the Ash Brigade said, shaking his head with a helpless expression.
"The two plots of land in the garden have been renovated, and if I'm not mistaken, Harris's body is most likely buried here. It's a crude method, but it makes sense; I did something similar more than ten years ago. I never expected that wizarding apprentices would still be using this trick more than a decade later."
Henry shook his head and said with a self-deprecating smile, as he squatted down and touched the two renovated patches of land.
Soon, he dug up the two renovated plots of land.
He swung the shovel forcefully with both hands, constantly turning up the soil.
Just as he had predicted, he did indeed unearth a male corpse and a female corpse.
“I’ve never seen Harris, but judging from the clothes on the body, I can confirm that this person was either very rich or very powerful.” Henry frowned, squatted down beside the body, and gently fiddled with the gold thread decorations on the body’s clothes. “The degree of decomposition and the time of disappearance match up. This is clearly the body of Harris, who is wanted by the bounty.”
"As for this female corpse, it's just as decomposed." Henry stood up, dusted off his hands, and squatted down next to the corpse to examine it closely. "We still don't know the relationship between the two." Henry continued, "However, corpses can talk."
Henry pulled a magnifying glass-like mirror out of his bag. The mirror had some wear on the edges and the surface was a bit blurry.
He took a deep breath and began to inspect the place inside and out.
He would sometimes get close to the corpse, almost pressing his face against it, and sometimes step back to observe the whole body.
Henry spent half an hour carefully examining Harris's body. Pointing to a wound on the body, he said, "Confirmed, the cause of the fatal wound."
"One was a ruptured heart, and the other was a broken spine, both caused by arrows." Henry said, gesturing with his hand to show the trajectory of the arrows. "In other words, this murderer used archery techniques."
Henry breathed a sigh of relief, a relaxed expression on his face: "As long as there are clues, I can gradually investigate and eventually find the target."
"As for the female corpse, it's obvious she was struck right between the eyebrows by a neutral magic arrow." Henry frowned, stroking his chin. "But why would these two people die from two different attack methods? Logically speaking, a person usually uses the same attack methods."
Henry looked puzzled and kept scratching his head.
"Let's not think about that too much for now. Anyway, it was caused by an archer. A wizard apprentice, and an archer at that, so the area affected can be quite small." Henry muttered as he brushed the dust off his clothes.
He then went straight into Harris's room, intending to stay there permanently.
Although he was only a one-star scout, the lowest rank in the Ashes Brigade, he had immense patience.
……
Vares finished his day's work and dragged his somewhat tired body back to his residence.
In the garden outside the residence, flowers swayed gently in the breeze, but Vares had no heart to appreciate them.
As he passed through the garden, his heart suddenly started racing, and his body tensed up instantly. He had a feeling that someone was watching him, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
Just as he was wondering, an arrow shot out from a corner of the garden at extremely high speed.
The arrow, carrying a sharp momentum, sliced through the air with a "whoosh" sound.
Vares' eyes widened as he tried to dodge, but his body couldn't react in time.
The arrow struck him squarely in the heart!
The immense impact made his body shudder violently, but the force remained undiminished. The blood-stained spurted out from his chest, leaving a trail of blood droplets, and embedded itself directly into the wall of the hut!
The walls shook violently.
You can imagine how powerful this arrow was!
