The Wizard: Starting with Infinite Part-Time Jobs

Chapter 9 Mr. Ironbeard, the Biological Culture Expert

"Then I'm relieved." Bondi's voice came from behind, carrying a clear sense of relief, and his footsteps became heavier.

"I reckon the inner living area is above this passage. We're now passing through the inner living area and heading directly to the experimental area," Aiden guessed.

It took about half an hour for the three of them to finally emerge from the passage. Aiden dusted himself off and squinted as he looked out.

Before me lay a vast expanse of buildings of varying heights, all with dark black exteriors. There were no animal servants, but mostly formal wizard apprentices dressed in dark gray robes, walking with their heads down, extremely busy.

The most eye-catching thing is the market-like stalls in front of you, which are filled with all sorts of strange things. The stall owners are shouting their wares, and the sounds are coming from all directions.

"Let's go check on them," Aiden said with a smile after glancing back at Bondi and Galatea to make sure they were alright.

"That's right, this is where it's lively." Bondi warmly hugged him.

Galatea's expression returned to normal, and she followed, though her fingers were still trembling slightly as she tightly gripped the parchment book.

"Try our top-quality clams. They're even smoother than the tenderest young girl's flesh. They're a great ingredient for relieving mental fatigue." The stall owner grabbed a still-wriggling clam, squeezed it hard, and juice splattered everywhere, releasing a sweet and fishy smell.

"A half-rotten human body. Hands and feet included, buy three get one free." When the stall owner saw someone coming, he directly lifted the black cloth, revealing the purplish-black severed limbs underneath, with flies buzzing around.

"Two litters of brown bear cubs, excellent material for practicing anatomy." The bear cubs in the iron cage howled, banging against the bars with a loud clang, their eyes filled with despair.

A variety of strange goods came into view: a miniature girl shivering inside a seashell, a street stall with arms and legs spread out, and a baby bear crying for milk...

All of this deeply impacted Aiden's worldview.

What a pervert!

Aiden felt a spasm in his stomach, and he fought back the urge to vomit, digging his nails into his flesh to suppress the discomfort with pain.

"These are all experimental materials. The book says that conducting experiments on human bodies can remove the wizard apprentices' awe of humanity itself," Galatea explained expressionlessly. "The book also says that wizards mostly abandon their physical bodies and use various kinds of knowledge to transform and arm their souls, so that they can continuously become stronger."

Bondi's brows furrowed tightly, his face ashen as if he had eaten something awful, and his voice trembled as he asked, "Is that even human?"

Galatea tilted her head slightly, her expression calm and undisturbed, and said, "Wizards have transcended the realm of humanity; they can be considered beings of a higher dimension. Even the most powerful knight is no different from an ant on the roadside in front of a wizard."

Aiden lowered his head slightly, gently stroking his chin with his fingers, and nodded as if he understood.

"Let's go look somewhere else. We mainly came here to find part-time jobs." Bondi was really uncomfortable. He frowned and pushed Aiden's back hard as he spoke, hurrying inside.

In order to avoid attracting the attention of these formal wizard apprentice stall owners, the three of them, like three frightened little mice, quickly slipped away.

……

After half a day, Aiden and his two companions had finally finished exploring the experimental area and were standing in front of a bulletin board.

"Finally found it! There are part-time opportunities here. Aiden, take a look and see which ones suit you," Bondi reminded him.

Over the past half-day, his worldview had been as if it had been struck hard by a hammer, almost completely overturned.

Besides the initial stalls, there were also places like the slaughterhouse, where the ground was covered in blood and tangled hair, emitting a nauseating stench. However, the formal wizard apprentices here seemed used to it, moving through it without batting an eye.

Aiden was in much better shape than him, after all, he had even experienced time travel, so although these scenes were terrifying, there was nothing he couldn't accept.

Galatea, who was afraid of the dark, adapted the fastest. She moved around the stalls as if she were at home, recording anything that piqued her curiosity in her notebook and writing incessantly.

The bulletin board was covered with various job postings, many of which Aiden couldn't understand. The strange symbols and terms made him frown.

Finally, he focused his gaze on two lines, gently pointing to them, and muttered to himself: "Recruiting a biological cultivation assistant with relevant experience. Excellent compensation in magic stones. — Mr. Ironbeard, Experimental Zone 072"

"We are recruiting a biological cultivation expert who can handle all kinds of problems and personally teach anatomy. The benefits are generous. Ms. Ollie, Experiment Zone 040."

"Hey, Aiden, these two are for you. I don't even have a single skill to make money, I can only rely on my father." Bundy grinned, pointing to the two lines of text.

Aiden rolled his eyes at him and said irritably, "You don't have to talk, Prince Bondi."

"Assistant or expert? I think you're better suited for the expert position, and the pay is higher," Galatea said, tilting her head.

"I'll try them one by one first, since I've left contact addresses for them all." Aiden took a deep breath, made his decision, and said, "If you're interested in other places, you can go and explore them too; you don't need to come with me."

"Okay," Bondi readily agreed, shrugging his shoulders.

"No problem." Galatea nodded with a smile.

The three of them dispersed.

……

This is a laboratory covering nearly 300 square meters. The laboratory is filled with a pungent smell of medicine, and all kinds of strange instruments are placed everywhere. The walls are covered with animal specimens.

A middle-aged man dressed in black robes sat behind a large table, frowning as he said, "You don't seem to be a formal wizard apprentice."

As he spoke, the middle-aged man's beard swayed like squid tentacles, which was quite eerie.

A boy was kneeling before him. The boy's body was trembling slightly, and fine beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

"Lord Ironbeard, I entered through special means. My father is a seasoned hunter, and I have learned a great deal about beast taming since I was a child. I am sure I can handle it. I only need half the magic stones as payment; I just want a chance to earn money." The boy raised his head, a fawning smile on his face, and said eagerly.

The middle-aged man fell silent, as if considering the truthfulness of the boy's words, his fingers tapping lightly on the table.

"Kill this red fox now, skin it, and keep its heart intact. You have ten minutes."

"The heart of a young red fox is the experimental material I need."

Mr. Tiexu pointed to a small red fox in a cage to the side. The little red fox paced back and forth restlessly in the cage, occasionally letting out a few pitiful cries.

The boy took a deep breath, stood up, and slowly walked towards the cage, each step seeming to require all his strength.
