"What? A soldier boy?"

Su Mo frowned. He only had a vague impression of the name.

He seems to be a hero of World War II, a symbol of the American spirit, and one of the earliest superhumans. But then again, Soldier Boy was created by Vought, so this World War II hero story is highly questionable. Vought's forte was packaging and fabrication; perhaps the entire World War II narrative was written by his public relations team.

"Let's go and meet him."

Su Mo gestured to Hughie, asking him to lead the way.

But Starlight stopped Hughie, placing a hand on his chest and shaking his head.

"I'll take Su Mo with me."

Her tone was decisive; it wasn't a discussion.

"We might be facing something even more powerful than Homelander. And Susan just found information in Walter's secret files. Homelander was created from Soldier Boy's genetic material plus Compound V, conceived in the womb. So it's too dangerous for Hughy to go there."

She glanced at Su Mo and added:

"I don't want my boyfriend to die because of an accident."

Su Mo thought about it and felt that Xingguang made sense. Although he felt that he could protect Hughie perfectly well.

Let alone one soldier boy, even ten more could protect him, but Xingguang is too eager for her boyfriend, so she won't disturb the young couple's feelings.

Hughie didn't say much. He turned around, hugged Starlight, and whispered a few words in her ear, something like "be careful."

Starlight patted him on the back and let go. Hughie took two steps back, watching Starlight and Su Mo turn and leave until their figures disappeared around the street corner.

Starlight was also a superhuman; she could fly. Her feet left the ground, and her body rose lightly, like a leaf blown by the wind. Su Mo followed beside her, the two flying side-by-side in the air at a moderate speed.

This is much faster than driving on busy streets, where the city traffic moves like a slow-moving snake beneath your feet, while it sweeps past you unimpeded.

Before long, the two arrived at where the soldier boy was. It was an ordinary commercial street with a coffee shop, a bakery, and a pharmacy along the way.

The soldier boy stood in front of a bakery, wearing his old uniform, a dark, tight-fitting shirt.

His hair was somewhat gray, and his beard was unkempt, but he was in good shape, with broad shoulders and a straight back. He was looking down, chatting and laughing with an elderly woman in her seventies, who was beaming from ear to ear.

Su Mo and Xing Guang descended from the sky, landing on the sidewalk. Su Mo walked up to the soldier boy, and Xing Guang took the opportunity to walk around him, grabbing the old lady's arm and carrying her away, half-supporting and half-carrying her. Before the old lady could react, they were already dozens of meters away.

The soldier boy's smile vanished. His gaze shifted from Xingguang to Su Mo, scrutinizing him from head to toe, his expression changing from relaxed to wary.

"Okay, are you from Walter's group?"

His voice was deep, with a nonchalant, roguish air about it.

"Why did you disappear as soon as you released me? Are you afraid I'll retaliate for attacking me during World War II?"

No sooner had he finished speaking than his right fist lashed out. Without any warning, it was fast and fierce, the force of the punch sending Su Mo's hair flying backward.

Su Mo raised his right hand, palm open, and steadily caught the punch. The fist slammed into his palm with a dull thud, and Su Mo's arm didn't budge. The soldier boy's fist felt like it had hit a steel wall, the bones aching painfully.

Su Mo heard the soldier boy's words and felt there must be some misunderstanding between them. He released his grip and quickly explained:

"Wait, we're not with Walter. Walter has gone bankrupt."

The soldier boy's cocky expression froze. His eyes widened, his mouth slightly agape, and he couldn't help but blurt out a curse:

"What? Walter went bankrupt? Damn it, how is that possible?"

"Walt did indeed go bankrupt, just yesterday."

Su Mo pushed away the soldier boy's right fist, which was still swinging in the air and had forgotten to retract due to surprise.

"Walter's scheme was exposed, the government intervened, and that's it."

The soldier boy stared at Su Mo for several seconds, his lips moving slightly as if he were processing the news.

He clearly didn't believe it. The Vought Group, in his eyes, was an omnipotent behemoth—could it really collapse so easily? But he didn't press further. He was sensible; he had felt Su Mo's power in that punch just now. He wasn't stupid enough to fight a stranger to the death. He still had to take down his "teammate" who betrayed him during World War II.

Su Mo didn't care that the soldier boy didn't believe her. As long as he didn't kill people indiscriminately, it was fine.

However, the necessary procedures still need to be followed. After all, Soldier Boy was a World War II soldier, and many American WWII veterans suffer from severe PTSD. And as one of the world's most powerful superhumans, if Soldier Boy were to experience a stress reaction, his destructive potential would be extraordinary.

Su Mo's idea was to take him to see a psychologist for an evaluation to confirm that he was not dangerous before deciding how to proceed.

Starlight is back. The soldier boy, led by Su Mo and Starlight, one on each side, headed towards the Superhuman Management Bureau.

On the road, Su Mo drove a borrowed SUV, with Xingguang and the soldier boy sitting in the back seat. The soldier boy leaned against the window, gazing blankly at the street scene outside. The car was quiet, with only the radio playing soothing jazz music.

As the car passed an intersection, a piercing "buzzing" sound suddenly came from the radio. The sound wasn't loud, but it was particularly jarring in the quiet car.

The soldier boy's body tensed abruptly. His eyes widened, his pupils contracted sharply, and he shuddered violently as if electrocuted. Something was glowing beneath his uniform at his chest. A dark red, ember-like light emanated from within his chest cavity, growing brighter and brighter.

Su Mo saw that scene in the rearview mirror. His pupils contracted sharply, his body's instincts reacting faster than his brain.

He released the steering wheel, flew out of the driver's seat, and his bio-force field instantly expanded, enveloping the entire vehicle. He and the car were launched off the road.

With the added speed, the surrounding world became a blurry patch of color. Su Mo, holding the SUV like a cardboard box, flew through the city and into the suburbs in an instant.

Beneath my feet lay an empty field, and in the distance, rolling hills stretched out, devoid of any buildings or people.

He had just put the car down, opened the back door, and pulled the soldier boy out of the seat.

The dark red light emanating from the soldier boy's chest reached its limit. A thick, intense beam of energy shot out from his chest.

The beam of light shot towards the sky, straight into the clouds, tearing a hole in the sky. A huge hole was pierced through the clouds.

The whole process lasted about three seconds. After the beam disappeared, the soldier boy's body went limp, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted in Su Mo's arms.

Su Mo looked down at the soldier boy in her arms, then looked up at the slowly closing cloud hole in the sky, and sighed.

"This is difficult."

He placed the soldier boy on the grass and turned to inspect the SUV. A hole had been burned through the connection between the back seat and the trunk; the edges were melted, the plastic and metal fused together, and it smelled burnt. But the car was still drivable.

Forget it, let Hughie, Starlight, and Susan deal with the soldier boy. He's a transmigrator; he doesn't need to worry about everything.

"Cough cough—"

Starlight struggled to climb out of the car, looking disheveled but unharmed. She stood on the grass, dusted herself off, took a deep breath, and tried to activate her superpowers to fly.

My feet were off the ground for about half a meter before landing.

"Oh my God."

Starlight's voice was somewhat strained.

"My superpowers have weakened."

She raised her hand, and a small, almost invisible ball of light gathered in her palm, like a firefly about to go out.

She frowned, tried again, and the light was a little brighter than before, but still far from what it used to be. She shook her hand, felt it for a moment, and added:

"However, it's recovering, but very slowly."

Su Mo looked at the faint light in the starlight's palm, then at the unconscious soldier boy on the grass, lost in thought.

The energy cannon on the soldier boy's chest is not only incredibly powerful, but it can also temporarily weaken or even disable superhuman abilities. This is quite useful. The Bureau might find it useful when they encounter troublesome superhumans in the future.

If any superpowered criminals appear on my side of Earth in the future, I'll bring them over, or bring the soldier boy over and remove their superpowers.
