Alien invasion? Luckily, I'm Superman.

Chapter 4 Racial Cleanliness

Sitting directly opposite at the long table was a soldier in his fifties, with the rank of major general on his shoulders.

His hair was gray, his face was deeply wrinkled, and his eyes were bloodshot, but he stood up straight and sat in his chair with impeccable posture.

This is the commander of the defense force.

When Su Mo walked in, all eyes in the room turned to him. Those gazes held scrutiny, curiosity, and suspicion.

"Uh, hello?"

When Su Mo spoke, his voice was a little strained. He realized he was nervous, which he found somewhat absurd. Just a few hours ago, he was worrying about the opening of a web novel, and now he was standing in front of a military region commander, possessing unparalleled strength. This made Su Mo feel as if he were dreaming, filled with a sense of unreality.

Su Mo, who had been an ordinary person since childhood, had never had the opportunity to meet such an important figure. Although he now possessed the power to move mountains and fill seas, the mindset of an ordinary person could not be changed overnight. He was still nervous, still unsure of what to say, and still silently rehearsing his words in his mind.

The commander stood up. He walked over, extended his hand, and shook hands with Su Mo. His hands were large, with rough calluses on his palms, and his grip was heavy.

"Comrade Su Mo," the commander said, his voice deep and steady, "my surname is Zhao, Zhao Deming. Thank you for everything you have done for this city."

"I... just did what I was supposed to do," Su Mo said. After saying that, he felt that it sounded like he was reciting lines, but he truly meant it.

Commander Zhao nodded, gesturing for him to sit down. Su Mo sat down in a chair next to the long table, the chair creaking as he quickly pulled back, afraid of breaking it.

Commander Zhao returned to his seat, remained silent for a moment, and then spoke. His voice was calm, but every word seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth. "Comrade Su Mo, we need your help, humanity needs your strength."

Su Mo remained silent, waiting for him to continue.

"Humanity is unable to cope with this alien invasion." Commander Zhao pointed to the map. "Most of the world's military bases were destroyed in the first instance. Their ships launched their attacks from orbit, and the accuracy and speed of their laser weapons far exceeded our defensive capabilities."

He paused, picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip of water to calm his helplessness and panic. "Our air force was almost completely wiped out within hours of the invasion, and the situation was even worse for the ground forces, which were systematically destroyed by the enemy's air power."

Commander Zhao looked at Su Mo and said, "The global communication network was destroyed in the first wave of attacks, and now the military command systems of various countries are basically paralyzed."

"It's only a matter of time before humanity is defeated." When these words were spoken, everyone in the room fell silent. Several staff officers lowered their heads.

"Commander Zhao," Su Mo said, "what do you want me to do?"

Commander Zhao glanced at him, then slowly spoke.

"It's a little embarrassing to admit," he said, his voice tinged with bitterness, "but Earth has actually considered surrendering."

Su Mo was stunned for a moment.

"About an hour after the invasion began, at an emergency meeting of the United Nations, a proposal to surrender was put forward. After assessing the disparity in strength between the two sides, some argued that resistance would only result in unnecessary casualties. It was suggested that perhaps a dignified ceasefire could be negotiated through diplomatic means."

Commander Zhao's expression shifted, from calm to grim. "But our linguists subsequently deciphered the invaders' language."

He nodded to the technician beside him. A young officer wearing glasses stood up, walked to the computer, and typed a few words. Text appeared on the screen—a translation of an alien language. The grammar was somewhat strange, but every word was clear.

"This war will bring an era of peace, justice, morality, culture, sports, family life, and the complete extinction of all other life forms."

We view all extraterrestrial life as a blunder in the universe and are determined to purify the galaxy and cleanse it of all defilement. We will never engage in diplomacy with other species.

We call this "purification," and extinction is considered "highly efficient."

Su Mo finished reading the last line and fell silent. The room was so quiet that the sound of wind blowing through the ventilation ducts could be heard.

"Racial fastidiousness," Commander Zhao said, his voice soft but each word heavy as lead. "It's the core of their national ideology. Although we don't know how such a race developed, they believe that inferior civilizations have no right to exist. If we surrender, it won't be as simple as slavery."

Su Mo stood in front of the long table, the words already etched into his mind like a branding iron.

Genocide? Enslavement of humanity?

He clenched his fists, his knuckles turning white, the muscles in his arms bulging slightly, and he was having some difficulty breathing. Especially when he recalled the ordinary people in the city who were injured or even killed, Su Mo felt an unusual rage.

How can humanity be exterminated like this? Or enslaved? What's the difference between that and extermination? What do these people take humanity for?

He took a deep breath, suppressing the anger that surged from his chest. Now was not the time to be angry.

"Okay," Su Mo exhaled, trying to calm her voice. "Is there anything I can do? What should I do first? Deal with the alien soldiers on Earth, rescue people first?"

His tone was solemn, and his gaze was fixed directly on Commander Zhao. Commander Zhao shook his head. "No." The word was spoken softly, but firmly.

He turned his head, and his secretary immediately stepped forward and handed him a document. The document was thin, only a few pages long, but the cover was stamped with a red confidential seal.

"If we don't eliminate the alien warships in Earth's orbit," he looked up at Su Mo, "cleaning up the ground forces won't change the outcome."

He placed the document on the table and opened to the first page. Su Mo saw that it was a satellite image of a massive alien warship hovering outside the atmosphere, its outline menacing, with estimated dimensions marked in red next to it.

"Our experts analyzed," Commander Zhao's voice became slow and heavy, "that although you are powerful now, you are still unable to deal with cruisers in space."

He paused, tapping his finger on the photograph. "They have capital ships in orbit. The shipborne weapons are on a completely different level from the laser guns used by ground troops. The attack on human defenses is done by warships bombarding the ground from space."

He didn't finish his sentence, but his meaning was clear. Su Mo was silent for a second. He recalled the pain he felt when the laser had grazed him; although the wound healed quickly, the charred mark and the burning pain were real. If the power were hundreds of times greater…

"Excuse me." Commander Zhao's voice interrupted his thoughts. Su Mo looked up and noticed that the general's expression had changed. "While you were using your superpowers to save people, our government's intelligence personnel searched the house left behind by your grandmother, Su Zhilan."

Commander Zhao pushed the documents in front of Su Mo. "We've discovered some of the truth."
