Alien invasion? Luckily, I'm Superman.
Chapter 44 Scarlet Witch, Mind Stone
Su Mo swiftly dodged the Scarlet Witch's Chaos Beam, his body shifting rapidly through the air. His incredible speed made him a blurry black shadow in Wanda's vision.
Su Mo flew behind Wanda, stretched out his arms, and tried to hug her from behind to control her movements.
The Scarlet Witch didn't have time to turn around. But her force field tightened suddenly around her body, like an invisible fist, squeezing Su Mo's body from all sides. The force was great, but for Su Mo, it only slowed his movements for a moment. However, that momentary delay was enough. Wanda used this opportunity to use her telekinesis to lift herself up, turning around and retreating more than ten meters.
As she retreated, her hands didn't stop moving. Using telekinesis, she swept up all the rubble, dirt, and broken steel bars piled on the ground, sending them surging towards Su Mo in a massive, overwhelming wave.
The gravel and soil enveloped Su Mo into a sphere, resembling a prison, creating an effect similar to the Earth Explosion Star.
Immediately afterwards, Su Mo broke free from the control of the Earth Explosion Star, and flying fragments shot out.
Su Mo stopped, hovering in mid-air, no longer giving chase. He watched Wanda retreat, his voice carrying clearly through the noisy battlefield to her ears.
"Wanda, stop. Stop working for Hydra. What's the point?"
Wanda's lips twitched into a cold laugh. Her voice carried a long-suppressed hatred.
"Heh, of course it's revenge. Our parents were killed by Stark Enterprises missiles during the war. We joined Hydra for revenge."
Su Mo's gaze involuntarily shifted to the other side of the battlefield. He looked resentfully at Tony, who was locked in combat with a group of Hydra soldiers. Damn it, it's Starks again. Su Mo cursed inwardly, then turned his gaze back to Wanda.
Forget it, let's deal with Wanda first. Although chaos magic is a multi-dimensional power, Wanda clearly hasn't mastered it yet, otherwise she wouldn't be controlled by the Mind Stone. Let's knock Wanda unconscious first, then explain things and bring her to her senses.
In the battle just now, Su Mo had grasped the Scarlet Witch's strength. Previously, he had been controlling his power, afraid of accidentally killing her. But now that he understood her strength, he could confidently unleash more of his power. After all, Su Mo was capable of destroying a spaceship with his bare hands, while Wanda's attack only caused him minor superficial injuries.
Su Mo suddenly accelerated.
This time, the speed was more than twice as fast as before. Wanda's eyes widened suddenly. This time, she only had time to pull the flying metal fragments around her to her side, making them spin rapidly around her to form an impenetrable protective shield. (Refer to Magneto in X-Men. As an aside, in that film, Quicksilver is Magneto's son, and the mutant universe has been rebooted, so things are a bit messy.)
Su Mo rushed into the protective shield. His body moved through the rain of debris, the powerful impact clearing away all the fragments, and his arm reached out towards Wanda.
Wanda hastily retreated, but this time, she wasn't fast enough. Su Mo's hand was getting closer and closer. Just as his fingertips were about to touch her, Wanda's pupils shrank to pinpoints. A powerful red energy field erupted from her body. The energy spread outward in a sphere, instantly engulfing everything within a radius of tens of meters. Spreading out along with the energy field were the Scarlet Witch's mind reading and illusions of fear.
In an instant, everyone in the base was trapped in an illusion. (As we all know, Superman's magic defense is very low. Actually, Superman's magic defense is higher than that of ordinary people, but unfortunately, his opponent was too strong. In the movie Avengers: Age of Ultron, Thor also entered an illusion, so I don't think Superman could have avoided it.)
Meanwhile, Captain America and Black Widow were deep within Baron Strucker's base. Their battle had begun before the Scarlet Witch's attack. The two relentlessly broke through the base's defenses, advancing relentlessly.
Captain America's shield bounced through the narrow corridor, each swirl striking a Hydra soldier with pinpoint accuracy. Black Widow's dagger flashed in the shadows. Both were highly experienced super agents, capable of single-handedly wiping out an entire Hydra base, let alone working together.
They advanced to a metal door at the deepest part of the base. Behind the door was a spacious underground hall. Baron Strucker stood in the center of the hall, holding Loki's scepter. The Mind Stone at the top of the scepter gleamed with an eerie, cold light under the lamplight.
A chaotic battle erupted instantly. Baron Strucker's tactical command and combat skills were equally top-notch; he was proficient in all types of firearms, melee weapons, and hand-to-hand combat techniques. He used his scepter as a melee weapon, thrusting, slashing, parrying, and sweeping with an elegant yet deadly rhythm. Hydra soldiers surged in from all directions.
Captain America's shield clashed with Strucker's scepter several times, sparks flying, neither gaining the upper hand. Black Widow attempted to flank from the side, but was entangled by a relentless stream of soldiers. The narrow space echoed with a dense clang of weapons striking each other. Neither side had the upper hand.
Just as the battle reached its climax, an invisible wave swept in from afar. The Scarlet Witch's terrifying illusions enveloped the entire base, naturally including this underground hall.
Baron Strucker reacted the fastest, immediately raising his scepter and attempting to create a mental barrier with the Mind Stone. But Captain America's shield was faster. Steve, barely managing to stay afloat for a few seconds before being completely engulfed by the illusion, hurled his shield with tremendous force. The shield spun as it flew, striking Strucker's wrist precisely. The scepter flew from his hand, rolling into a corner of the hall. Then everyone was plunged into the illusion created by the Scarlet Witch.
Captain America saw Bucky in the illusion. Bucky gripped his wrist tightly, questioning why he didn't save him, why he let go, and why he let him fall off the mountain.
Black Widow returned to the Red House in the Soviet Union. That nameless building deep in the snow. She became that little girl again, experiencing once more the things she thought she had forgotten. More desperate training, more brutal elimination.
Iron Man's vision is of the day the Chitauri invaded New York. He stands atop Stark Tower, watching the wormhole open in the sky, and sees his parents—Howard and Maria—with Pepper Potts also there. Then they are all dead. In the Chitauri massacre. Tony is powerless to stop it.
Hawkeye's vision was of his home. His wife sat at the dining table, his children played with toys on the carpet. Then the door was kicked open, and a group of villains he had once captured stormed in. He saw their faces. He remembered every single one of them; he had personally sent each one to prison. They laughed, cursed, and pointed their guns at his family. He could only watch as flames spurted from those gun barrels, as his family members fell one by one.
Su Mo returned to a room—a rented apartment in an ordinary neighborhood in an ordinary city. Then he saw the city ablaze. Alien warships blotted out the sky. But his body was that of an ordinary human. He could only stand there, powerless to stop humanity's extinction.
Do not!
Su Mo clenched his fists. His consciousness struggled for a moment in the illusion, like a drowning person struggling underwater. Then he opened his eyes.
Reality. He was on the battlefield, amidst the ruins of the Hydra base in Sokovia. The Scarlet Witch lay a few meters away from him, her eyes closed.
Her energy field had dissipated, and the terrifying illusion that had enveloped the entire base began to fade as she fell unconscious. During the outburst, she broke free from the control Baron Strucker had placed with the Mind Stone, but she herself was exhausted and fell unconscious.
Su Mo's fist was still raised. In the instant before he regained consciousness, his fist was about to smash into Wanda's face. He abruptly stopped. His fist halted less than ten centimeters from Wanda.
He lowered his fist, took a deep breath, and turned to look at the others.
After Wanda fell into a coma, the terrifying hallucinations did not last. The others also woke up one after another, with those who were more determined regaining consciousness faster.
Captain America was the second to wake up. He broke free from the illusion, immediately picked up his shield from the ground, walked to a corner of the hall, and grabbed the scepter. He then walked up to Baron Strucker, dragged him up from the ground, and pinned him against the wall. Black Widow woke up almost simultaneously; she came over, held a dagger to Strucker's throat, and together with Captain America, subdued him.
Neither of them spoke. The experience in the illusion was too real; they needed time to process it. But the enemy was still in front of them, and the mission wasn't finished yet, so they could only suppress those feelings for now.
Iron Man woke up too. He sat on the ground, his mask off, revealing a pale, sweat-covered face. Panic and PTSD left him with only one thought in his mind—more firepower.
He could no longer allow the enemy to invade Earth with impunity. He would create more weapons, stronger armor, and an army strong enough to protect the entire planet. He would make sure what happened in New York never happened again. He would ensure his parents and Pepper's safety forever.
Hawkeye was the last to wake up. He opened his eyes but didn't speak. He decided that after this mission, he would retire from the Avengers. No more vacations, just straight retirement. He wanted to spend the rest of his life with his family.
