Alien invasion? Luckily, I'm Superman.
Chapter 6 Frigate
The other alien carrier-based aircraft met the same fate, crashing. After dealing with all the alien carrier-based aircraft, Su Mo withdrew his heat beam and blinked. His eyes were a little sore.
The pilot of the fighter jet that had just been chased had clearly noticed the change behind him. He turned around and saw Su Mo through the cockpit canopy—a young man in a black tracksuit, hovering high in the sky.
The pilot hesitated for a moment, but still raised his hand and saluted him through the canopy. With aliens appearing in the world, he wouldn't be surprised if superhumans appeared too. Su Mo waved to him, signaling him to leave. The pilot nodded, pushed the control stick, and the fighter jet roared to life, turning and flying towards the base. His mission was complete; no further sacrifice was needed.
Su Mo hovered in the air, raised his head, and his gaze pierced through the atmosphere. There, in near-Earth orbit, a massive fleet hovered silently.
Cover the sky.
Su Mo's body trembled slightly. After all, he wasn't a battle-hardened superman from a comic book, and it was normal to feel scared in the face of this suffocating scene.
Each of those warships was dozens or even hundreds of times larger than the largest aircraft carrier on Earth, and they were lined up in the solar system like a group of sleeping giants.
He took a deep breath, held it, and continued to ascend. The altitude increased. The air thinned, and frost began to cover the surface of his bio-field-encased clothing. The wind died down, and the surroundings became deathly silent.
He passed through the stratosphere, the mesosphere, and the ionosphere. Behind him, Earth appeared as a gigantic blue sphere, dotted with smoke and fire. The fleet ahead drew closer and grew larger.
Su Mo hovered in the vacuum, gazing at the distant fleet. The alien fleet had also spotted him; the fleet commander was clearly surprised that a being could navigate space alone, reminding him of the repulsive Void Worms. (Void Worms are similar to space cockroaches, constantly harassing you, and they're quite formidable.)
Under the command of the fleet commander, several escort ships broke away from the fleet. They were much smaller than the capital ships, their surfaces covered with scale-like armor, and their gun muzzles were slightly turned, aiming at him.
Fire.
Dense beams of particles, cannonballs, and small space missiles rained down from the frigate, creating a barrage of bullets.
Su Mo's eyes widened suddenly. He dodged with all his might. His body tumbled, turned, and stopped abruptly at incredible speed in the vacuum, but the barrage of bullets was too dense. A red laser struck his shoulder at the speed of light, leaving a charred wound on his skin.
Intense pain.
This wasn't the kind of individual attack from ground troops. The weaponry of a space warship was far more powerful than that of ground invading forces or carrier-based aircraft. His steel body could easily withstand the latter two attacks; even his clothes wouldn't be damaged under the influence of the bio-field. But now, he couldn't completely block the attack from just the escort ship.
Another beam of particles grazed his side, burning a hole in his clothes and leaving a scorch mark on his skin. A cannonball exploded beside him, the shockwave throwing him away.
This won't do. Su Mo gritted his teeth, dodging the barrage of bullets while his mind raced. He needed to get closer. In close combat, their powerful main guns wouldn't be able to provide an advantage.
Su Mo made a bold decision.
While dodging attacks, he focused on charging at full speed toward a frigate. Lasers and shells continuously struck his body, leaving charred scars on his skin.
His speed increased rapidly. Missiles and torpedoes swarmed behind him, tracking his trajectory relentlessly. At the last moment, Su Mo accelerated sharply, flashing past the side of the frigate like lightning. The pursuing missiles and torpedoes, unable to change course, crashed into the frigate like a swarm of bees.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of explosions erupted on the side of the frigate, shattering its shields and armor. Fire and debris bloomed silently in the vacuum, like a silent flower.
Su Mo swiftly turned and rushed towards the breach in the frigate's armor. He gripped the edge of the dent in the armor with both hands and tore at it forcefully to both sides. The metal twisted, deformed, and cracked under his force, widening the opening to a size large enough for him to crawl through. Although he could break through the frigate's defenses without luring an attack, it was easy to imagine how much damage he would suffer in the process.
Su Mo slipped inside the frigate.
The corridor was filled with smoke and red alarm lights. The alien crew members ran frantically down the corridor, some shouting, some operating their weapons, and some raising their laser guns the moment they saw Su Mo.
Su Mo stood in the middle of the passage, his body covered in charred wounds. The wounds were healing rapidly; he could feel his skin regenerating and his muscle fibers beginning to reconnect. But the pain during the healing process was real, like countless needles piercing his body simultaneously.
"It's time to settle accounts!" he said through gritted teeth.
An alien soldier fired at him. A laser struck his chest, leaving only a faint white mark. The defenses inside the frigate used the same weapons as the ground forces, which were largely ineffective against his steel body. Moreover, his power continued to increase as the sun shone in the sky.
Su Mo did not waste any time.
He took a deep breath and exhaled a burst of icy breath. A white, frigid current swirled in the narrow passage, instantly freezing the soldier into an ice sculpture. Ice crystals gleamed coldly under the red alarm lights.
More soldiers surged in from both ends of the passage. Su Mo stopped using his freezing breath and charged straight through.
Super speed, super power.
His fist pierced a soldier's skull, splattering grayish-green blood onto the wall. His knee shattered another soldier's breastplate, sending him flying like a rag doll, crashing into the wall at the end of the corridor. Time was of the essence, and the mission was urgent.
Thirty seconds.
In just thirty seconds, Su Mo had eliminated all the defenses inside the frigate. He searched every compartment and subdued every crew member who was still resisting with his freezing breath. Grayish-white ice sculptures were scattered in the corridors, appearing eerie and silent under the flashing alarm lights.
Su Mo stood on the bridge of the frigate, panting heavily. His wounds had mostly healed, but his clothes were riddled with holes, making him look even more disheveled than before.
He was just about to try using the crew as hostages when his superhuman vision pierced through the ship's hull, revealing the situation outside. The other escort ships hadn't stopped attacking at all. They didn't even seem to care that their ally had been captured; their guns remained aimed at the escort, energy building up.
Moreover, further away, several larger warships, battleships, began to break away from the fleet and slowly move in this direction. They were more than ten times the size of the escort ships, and the muzzle diameter of their main guns was larger than that of some asteroids.
Su Mo's pupils contracted slightly.
