Alien invasion? Luckily, I'm Superman.
Chapter 78 The Tyrant, the Night Owl
Meanwhile, the Outsider, carrying the unconscious Nightwing, drove an armored vehicle and sped towards the location of the Tyrant.
The streetlights on both sides of the street flashed past the car roof, the alternating light and shadow casting shadows on Alfred's expressionless face.
"Sir, I've brought Dick." The Outsider pressed the communicator on his chest to report to the Tycoon. He paused, then added, "Sir, the secret society has been discovered by the Justice League. Now a group of superheroes with the police are cleaning up our people."
A deep, calm voice came through the communicator: "Don't worry. The Death Matrix and the Divine Ring will pass."
And then there's Superman, what a brainless idiot, heading straight for the moon by himself. Doesn't he know that the Justice League in this world hasn't been dealt with by our plan yet? If Superman and Martian Manhunter team up, how could Superman possibly defeat two, or even more, people?
The outsider listened silently, his gaze fixed straight ahead.
"Bang bang bang—"
A barrage of bombs rained down from the sky, striking the armored vehicle precisely on its roof. The explosions ripped through the night sky, tearing away the vehicle's outer shell and some of its armor, revealing the internal frame and a hissing engine. But the vehicle continued to move, its tires still rolling.
"Hahahahahahahahaha!"
A piercing, manic laugh poured down from mid-air. The outsider looked up. A helicopter, haphazardly painted in purple and green, hovered above the armored vehicle, its hatch wide open. A man in a purple suit leaned out, his pale face contorted in a grin.
"Let me see, Batman's little helper is taking baby Robin, who's not wearing pants, to find Batman's dad?"
The clown tilted his head, his green hair flying wildly in the wind, his mouth twisted into a wide grin that revealed two rows of uneven, yellowed teeth. Behind him, his gang of clowns raised their guns and fired downwards, bullets scattering sparks as they struck the wreckage of the armored vehicle.
Clearly, the Joker didn't recognize that this wasn't the Alfred he knew.
"Sir, he's the parody of the Jester. A troublesome fellow, always at odds with Batman." The Outsider's tone remained calm and composed, without the slightest fluctuation.
"I know, Alfred. I'm here." Night Owl's voice rang out from above the outsider, deep and magnetic. The Tyrant, or rather Night Owl, upon arriving in this world, learned of his brother's title, Batman, and thus adopted a similar name—Night Owl. (Note 1)
An outsider looked up and saw Night Owl leap from the top of the building, his black cloak unfurling in the night wind like a pair of giant owl wings.
He fired his grappling hook, the grappling hook precisely embedding itself in the helicopter's fuselage. Then, the hook rapidly retracted, pulling him quickly towards the helicopter. Night Owl retracted the hook mid-air, rolled, and landed silently in front of the Joker.
The Joker's laughter abruptly stopped. Before he could even speak, Night Owl had already slammed an elbow into his chest. The Joker groaned and collapsed onto the cabin floor, rolling into a corner.
"You imposter!" The Joker raised his head angrily, the paint on his lips looking even more grotesque with his contorted expression. "I want Bat Sweetheart, not a cheap imitation like you!"
The clown suddenly leaped up, aiming a kick at Night Owl's groin. Night Owl jumped back, leaping out of the hatch, his jetpack exploding behind him in two streaks of blue flame, catching him safely beside the helicopter. He took a spherical bomb from his belt and threw it.
The bomb struck the helicopter's main rotor and exploded. Flames engulfed the fuselage, the helicopter tilted and swayed precariously, rotor blades broke off and scattered, and the fuselage crashed into the street like a burning piece of scrap metal. A secondary explosion occurred upon impact, flames shooting several meters high, forming a small mushroom cloud, and the heat shattered the windows on both sides of the street.
The Joker vanished. No body, no blood. Night Owl knew he wasn't dead; that man would never die so easily, whether from this world or the other. But Nightwing was right in front of him; he didn't have time to chase a madman.
The owl glided down toward the outsider's damaged armored vehicle.
"surprise!"
From a side alley, a black figure suddenly burst out—it was the real Batman. He raised his hand, fired his grappling hook, and precisely caught Nightwing's belt, who was still unconscious in the armored vehicle. Then, he snapped the hook shut, pulling Nightwing over the outsider's head.
The outsider, startled, immediately drew his cane, pulled out a slender staff-sword from its shaft, and slashed at the grappling hook rope with a backhand motion. The blade of the staff-sword gleamed coldly in the moonlight, sharp enough to cut through a steel wire as thick as a thumb.
"Oh, oh, I'm afraid that won't work."
A hand appeared out of thin air in front of the staff and sword. Its five fingers were spread out and firmly gripped the blade.
Su Mo had somehow found himself standing beside the outsider, a relaxed smile on his face. He tightened his fingers slightly, the blade of the staff-sword scraping against his palm with a harsh screech, but not even a white mark was left.
"Damn it!" The outsider gritted his teeth and pulled twice, but it didn't budge. He made a quick decision, slammed on the accelerator, and the armored vehicle's tires screeched against the ground as the vehicle shot forward.
"Can you escape?" Su Mo instantly flew to the front of the armored vehicle, landed on his feet, spread his arms, and his huge and sturdy body blocked the road like a wall.
The outsider didn't slow down. He reached to his waist with his right hand and pulled out a pistol. The gun was black, but the bottom of the magazine emitted an eerie green glow. He pulled the trigger, and a bullet emitting a green glow trailed a white contrail, shooting straight towards Su Mo's chest.
Those were Kryptonite bullets prepared for Superman.
Su Mo's lips curled up slightly, and Pudding on his shoulder suddenly extended a black tentacle, which lashed out in the air like a whip.
*Snap!* The bullet was deflected precisely, its tip tumbling twice in the air before landing in the shadows by the roadside. In the darkness, a hand clad in black armor silently caught it.
Batman tucked the kryptonite bullet into his belt pocket with a clean, swift motion, without making a sound.
The armored vehicle rammed straight into Su Mo. The front of the vehicle caved in the moment it hit Su Mo's body, like a crushed soda can. The hood flipped up, and the outsider's body was thrown forward in the driver's seat, his forehead hitting the steering wheel, leaving a red mark.
"It's over, Night Owl, Outsider." Su Mo flew up, hovering above the wreckage of the armored vehicle, looking down at the "two people" inside, his tone calm.
"In fact, there is only one outsider." Batman, with the unconscious Nightwing tucked under his left arm and swinging his grappling hook with his right, swung over from the opposite side and landed silently next to Su Mo.
He looked at the motionless figure with its head down inside the car. "Just now, while your attention was on the kryptonite bullets, Night Owl ran away, teleported away, maybe with magic or a sonic boom. The one in the car now is just a puppet."
Su Mo frowned, his gaze lingering on the outline of the mannequin for a moment.
"No wonder he's Batman's counterpart, the second-best escape artist in the universe. No wonder Night Owl didn't say or do anything earlier. Oh well, once I've dealt with the crime syndicate, he's not going to escape."
"Su Mo, we have to go help. A large number of superheroes were defeated by the Death Matrix and the Divine Ring while they were cleaning up the Outsiders' secret society."
The urgent voice of Martian Manhunter came through Batman's communicator. He relayed, "They're in Happy Harbor. Any later and there might be casualties."
He paused. "Wonder Woman is gone. Superman took Supergirl to Watchtower and imprisoned her. The Flash and Firestorm went to Midtown. Johnny Quick and Atom are slaughtering the Rogues and their gang."
Upon hearing this, Su Mo did not hesitate at all. He slightly bent his knees and suddenly launched himself into the air, flying towards Happy Harbor. The sound of him cutting through the air left a long trail in the night sky.
Batman glanced in the direction Su Mo had disappeared, then pressed the communicator on his wrist: "Alfred, bring the Batplane over, and this Alfred is yours."
He turned and took a step towards Midtown, his grappling hook shooting out as he swung into the night sky. The message from the Martian Hunter indicated that the powerful prisoner was being taken towards Midtown by the Crime Syndicate. He had to stop them immediately.
The jet-black Batplane flew in from the horizon, hovering silently above Batman. The hatch opened, and Batman leaped into the cockpit, gripping the controls. The screen on the dashboard lit up, and the Flash's communication request flashed in the corner.
"Batman, do you have a plan to deal with Atom?" Barry's voice was urgent, with the sounds of explosions and collapsing buildings in the background.
Batman's lips curled into a slight smile as he pressed a red button on the control stick. The Batplane's tail thrusters spewed even more intense blue flames, propelling the aircraft forward like an arrow, accelerating rapidly towards Central City. His voice was deep and resolute: "Of course."
I recommend the DC animated series "Justice League in Action" and the short film "Justice League in Action".
