This game is so weird!
Missing Information in Chapter 98
The players carried the corpses of several glowing laborers at breakneck speed. When they passed the elevator, some of them carried the corpse of a berserk female orc. They rushed out of the mine just before the countdown ended.
Not long after they rushed out of the cave, the four sacs of the resonator not far from the underground Im Energy River vibrated violently. With a "bang," the four sacs exploded at the same time, and a visible blue sound wave swept outwards from the resonator, recording the underground cave network one by one, and probing downwards along the hidden underground caves deep in the mining pool.
At the same time, a blue sound wave shot out from the cave entrance, creating a strong gust of wind before dissipating into the air.
Marcus, who had been knocked over by the strong wind, rolled over and sat up. He raised his right hand to press his head, which was ringing from the resonator's sound waves, and pressed his earpiece to report to his superior:
"Squad D reporting to command center: this area has been cleared, and the locator resonator has been activated."
"Great, Marcus. Wait a moment, the Raven helicopter is already on its way."
A joyful female voice came from the other end of the call.
Upon hearing this good news, Marcus and Dom, who had been fighting for three consecutive days, sat back on the grass, rested their hands on their backs, and let out a comfortable sigh.
Team A and the other players found places to lie down and began checking their loot.
Dom, sitting next to Marcus, turned his head and asked, "So, are we going back to base now?"
"It should be."
After Marcus finished speaking, he lay down on the withered grass. Dom followed suit, stretching his arms out to the side, sprawling on the grass, and replied with a smile, "That's good, I've had enough."
"I'm going to have a big meal, a hot and delicious one, to feed him all day! I'll also take two days off to go to the shelter to buy some things."
As he spoke, he propped himself up on his arms, preparing to find the other players to check his loot together, and ask the familiar Night Rain and the others to help assess whether he had enough to buy a women's outfit.
Before he could even get up, Colonel Hoffman's deep, suppressed voice came through Marcus's earpiece: "D Squad, bad news, the device isn't working."
Marcus sat up abruptly, his face turning grim. Dom's smile froze, and he turned to look at Marcus as they listened to the audio together.
"What do you mean by saying the device isn't working?"
Seeing that the NPC looked unwell and stood up, the players also got up and gathered around Marcus to listen to the command center's response.
Wooden Fish also got up from beside Bard, leaving the two head-sized mechanical balls he had picked up from the ground—which he said were storage devices—for Bard to study, and then moved behind the other players.
"The location resonator can't detect all the information."
"According to Anya, for some reason, we can only survey a small portion of the underground passages! We need a hundred positioning resonators to survey the entirety of these caves!"
Colonel Hoffman, still annoyed that the results of the pre-mission assessment by the technical personnel did not match the actual situation, was speaking on the channel when Bard interrupted him and threw the mechanical ball in his hand to Marcus and Muyu.
"So what? We'll just use this thing."
"How about I smash your teeth with this?" Dom said irritably when he saw that Bard had thrown a mechanical ball at him.
Marcus took the ball, glanced at Bader, and waited for him to continue.
"Shut up and watch carefully."
Bard got up and walked over to Marcus, turning on the switch on top of the mechanical sphere from his hand. The LED strip on the surface of the mechanical sphere lit up with blue light, and the gears at the four corners of the sphere turned slightly, causing the four metal shells around the switch to unfold.
Blue light emanated from inside the mechanical sphere, gradually intensifying in the air to form an intricate, tree-like projection.
"Look, these are orc caves, am I right?"
"Where did you find it?"
"The wooden fish and the others found it in the cave; the files are all inside."
"Philip! Report the situation!"
Colonel Hoffman was still shouting on the other end of the call when Marcus finally had a chance to press the microphone again and reply, "Anya, did you see that?"
After Bard finished speaking, he took the mechanical ball from Marcus and walked towards Dom's backpack, which was placed to the side.
Before he could get close, the backpack's metal shell unfolded, revealing a head and hands. A small flame shot out from the thrusters on the backpack's abdomen, and the entire backpack transformed into a flying robot that hovered in the air.
A robotic arm took the unfolded mechanical ball from Bud's hand and brought the projected image close to the head equipped with four cameras for observation.
Seeing that the backpack Dom had been carrying was actually a drone, Muyu quietly approached from behind and, under the watchful eyes of Bard and the others, pulled out a scanner and began scanning.
The scene suddenly became a bit strange, like a mantis stalking a cicada. Anya's drone scanned the geological robot, while Muyu stood behind it, scanning the drone.
"Yes, Captain Bud is right."
Anya's voice came through the headset, "The geological robot showed more cave data than the resonator."
Cole's face scrunched up as he walked over to Dom and said irritably into his headset, "Damn, this is ridiculous!"
"I need the exact location of that document," Colonel Hoffman said urgently.
"Sir, the data shows that this geological robot comes from the Dongzha Military Academy." Anya replied after further checking through the data interface between the robot and the mechanical sphere, "To be more precise, it comes from his father's house."
"Whose father?"
"Reporting, sir, this is Sergeant Phil's father."
Upon hearing this, Colonel Hoffman's lips twitched slightly.
So many elite soldiers died for the reconnaissance mission, and now you're telling me that this data already existed in the home of that bastard who broke the rules, caused a huge disaster, and was imprisoned for seven years?
"Philip, do you remember how to get home?"
"Yes, sir." Marcus was momentarily speechless and replied in a rather unfriendly tone.
"What the heck! What the heck!"
After listening to the whole thing, Muyu grabbed Dom's thick arm and shook it violently. "I told you not to say 'go home after this'! Now look what happened! How come there are even more consecutive missions?!"
Dom also looked distressed, raising his other hand to cover his face, not wanting to speak.
Although he didn't know why he couldn't say "go home after finishing the mission," he was also terrified of this mission.
Along the way, not to mention the situation of Team A, their original team leader, Jin Mingyang, and recruit Anthony Cam also died on the road, leaving only him and Marcus.
If it weren't for Team A, the rescue target, joining at the last minute and bringing with them a group of friendly soldiers, I really don't know if we would have died in the cave.
Now he has to go to his old friend Marcus's hometown. He had thought about accompanying Marcus, who had been in prison for 7 years, home after the mission was over, but he didn't want to go back like this!
Meanwhile, deep within the underground cave.
"Lieutenant, order those helicopters to change course and immediately take Team D to the East Gate Military Academy. Now!"
Colonel Hoffman's voice came from the helmet of a soldier from Gears Squad. After hearing this, a large hand wearing protective gloves crushed the helmet and threw it on the ground. He took a deep breath, gently pressed his right hand down on the head of the captured A Squad soldier, and casually snapped his neck.
As he strolled away from the cave, a hoarse sound escaped his throat:
"Dongzha Military Academy, let's go..."
