I train Batman in a horror world
Chapter 7: Facing Fear
"You're finished, Tony!"
"What?"
Before Bruce could even process the meaning of Fowler's words, a pair of large hands gripped his shoulders firmly.
"Tony, Mommy knows you and Danny had a fight, but you shouldn't run around like that. Daddy will be angry!"
"..."
Bruce stared at the anxious woman in front of him, lost in thought.
The fact that you suddenly have a mother is something you can temporarily ignore.
The important thing is that she calls herself Tony?
If I remember correctly, Tony was supposed to be a friend that their son Danny had imagined...
Bruce had his own thoughts, but he still tentatively said:
"Auntie, although I might be the Tony you're talking about, I'm really not your son."
"What nonsense are you spouting, child! Don't you want your mom and dad that much?!"
Wendy gave a reproachful look, then took Bruce's hand and headed towards the hotel interior.
Bruce was naturally unwilling.
He leaned back, trying to stop Wendy's movement, then turned his head to look at Fowler, who was flying in mid-air.
"Please, shouldn't you say something?!" Bruce exclaimed.
Wendy seemed unable to see Fowle's presence; only she could see him.
Fowler circled around the two of them once, then landed on Bruce's head.
"What are you saying? Isn't it something to be happy about that you have a mother now?" Foul asked.
"I haven't had a mother in ages!!!" Bruce said angrily.
"If you keep doing this, Mommy's really going to get angry, Tony!"
Wendy stopped what she was doing, turned around and looked at Bruce with a hint of anger in her eyes.
"Daddy broke Danny's arm like this before, Tony. You have to be good and don't make Mommy angry!"
"..."
What kind of parents would threaten their child like that?!
Bruce had unspeakable suffering, but he didn't give up trying.
"Listen, Mom... I'm really not your son. My name is Bruce Wayne, not Tony!"
"Huh?!" Wendy glared at him.
Bruce was devastated, completely unprepared for this situation.
However, at this moment, Foul comforted him:
"My advice is to let nature take its course. The fact that you suddenly have a mother is probably just the hotel playing tricks on you, since we all know you're actually an orphan."
"That's enough! I still have Alfred!"
Bruce was in a terrible mood, but his body obediently allowed Wendy to drag him along.
Fowler was right to say that things should take their natural course.
I was forced to join a family of three; the hotel must be behind this!
Just then, Wendy, the "new mom" in front, suddenly spoke up:
"Tony, I know you're unhappy, but Mom is doing this for your own good."
"You know, we're the only family in the whole hotel. Dad's busy writing, and he hates being disturbed. If you disturb him, the consequences will be terrible!"
"..."
Does this sound like some kind of supernatural rule?
Should I not disturb my dad who is writing?
Bruce asked Fall via telepathy, "Is this her decision or the hotel's?"
After a moment's thought, Foul replied, "Both are possible; that's the answer!"
"You really are..."
Bruce was speechless at Foll's answer and didn't bother to ask any more questions.
Wendy wasn't actually pulling his arm very hard; she just didn't want him to leave at first.
At this moment, Bruce felt that he could easily break free from the large hand gripping his arm with just a little effort.
But after thinking it over, Bruce temporarily abandoned the idea.
He needs to know more.
Bruce asked, "Wendy, where did Danny go?"
Wendy, without turning her head, said, "Mom is Mom, not Wendy Mom. Do you even acknowledge me as your mother anymore?!"
Bruce's forehead creased with annoyance, and he continued, "I'm so sorry, Wendy's mom, about the argument between Danny and me..."
At that moment, Wendy suddenly stopped.
Bruce instinctively held his breath.
Wendy turned around, bent down, and gently stroked Bruce's face.
Bruce desperately wanted to get away from the other person's large hand.
But I still have a vague feeling that it's better not to do it.
Wendy said softly, "What a sensible child. Your argument with Danny is all Mom's fault. Mom didn't take good care of you two, which is why you argued."
"It's all Mom's fault."
"..."
After saying that, Wendy didn't give Bruce a chance to speak again, but instead took his arm and continued walking into the hotel.
This situation not only puzzled Bruce, but even Fowler couldn't help but remark:
"That's too passive."
In the original story, Wendy was always portrayed as a hardworking and devoted wife.
She was responsible for the family's meals every day, and the hotel inspection work that originally fell to her husband was also done by Wendy all by herself.
Even when it comes to taking care of the children, it's Wendy who does it all.
Her husband, Jack, could simply focus on his writing.
If we were to categorize the status of a family of three in a hotel.
The male protagonist, Jack, has always been at the top.
After all, a disillusioned man has arrived in a completely new and unfamiliar place.
In addition, there were no other outsiders.
Jack was the king of the entire hotel, in charge of everything.
Wendy's behavior at this moment seems less important than her child.
......
After walking for a few minutes, Wendy led Bruce to a spacious hall.
Expensive sofas are placed in the center of the hall for people to rest.
Several educational toys for children were stored on the carpet on the ground, clearly belonging to Danny himself.
The fireplace on the wall crackled with flames, making the space feel much cooler.
Wendy released Bruce's hand and said earnestly:
"Listen to Mommy and stay here, okay?"
Bruce asked, puzzled, "Where are you going?"
Wendy replied, "I'm going to find Danny. You stay here and wait for Mommy to come back."
Then, Wendy suddenly looked in a certain direction, her tone unusually serious:
"Remember this: don't disturb Dad while he's writing, or he'll get angry and there will be serious consequences."
"..."
Wendy then gave Bruce a affectionate peck on the forehead before leaving to look for Danny.
Foul, who was flying in mid-air, glanced at Bruce.
The guy seemed to be stunned by Wendy's affectionate gesture, standing there dumbfounded and motionless.
"What's wrong? Are you not used to these heartwarming scenes?" Foul asked curiously.
"How could I possibly get used to it!"
Bruce frowned. "That's all an illusion. Aside from Alfred, I have no family left!"
Fowler speculated, "I think this is a tactic the hotel used to keep you here. You wanted this family of three to leave the hotel, but it ended up making them part of your family."
Bruce nodded. "But its methods are too crude. These family ties are just a burden to me."
Fowler was not at all surprised by Bruce's reaction.
Suddenly having an extra family member, who wouldn't mind?
Bruce suddenly said, "I'm a little worried now."
Holmes asked curiously, "What?"
"Wendy has emphasized many times not to disturb Jack while he's writing, and I'm worried that this is actually a hint from the hotel."
Bruce said, "I suspect it wants me to follow this rule."
Fowler shrieked, "Gan! You're such a little cookie! Let's just stay quiet, play the mice, and wait for them to feed us!"
Bruce refused: "No."
He turned around and made a decision.
Bruce walked in the direction Wendy had been looking.
That was where Jack wrote.
Fowle called after him, "Where are you going?"
"Go find Jack."
Bruce didn't turn his head: "If this is a hint from the hotel, then I'm not going to follow their script. If this isn't a hint, then Wendy is just protecting what she thinks is her son."
"But in either case—"
He stopped and glanced back at Fowler.
"I'm not the kind of person who waits for others to tell me what to do."
Foul opened his mouth, then closed it again. He flew up and landed on Bruce's shoulder, gripping it tightly with his claws.
"Fine," Fowler said, "but you owe me a meal."
Bruce nodded in agreement.
Breaking the rules could trigger major changes.
But Bruce hadn't forgotten why he'd come to this place in the first place.
He came to confront his fears.
