Chapter 23 Dumbledore's Commission
Chapter 23 Dumbledore's Commission
However… the fact that he immediately used the level 8 "Shadowless Striker" was something Luis hadn't expected. [Google Search]
He only knew that he had a strong talent for dark magic, but he didn't expect it to be this ridiculously strong, and a ruthless idea came to his mind.
Should we... learn the Unforgivable Curse?
This idea was quickly dismissed.
……
The two had just stepped out of the Room of Requirement after practicing the spell when they saw Dumbledore standing at the door with his sleeves rolled up, seemingly waiting for them.
"Professor," the two greeted each other in unison.
"Youth is wonderful," Dumbledore remarked wistfully. "However, it seems a bit too early for someone your age to be involved in matters of love."
Catherine's face flushed instantly, and her gaze darted to the side. Louis, however, didn't seem to think anything of it. He asked directly, "So... Professor, you're still not asleep at this hour? If you weren't woken up by the urge to pee, then... you must have been woken up by the urge."
Good grief, where are you?
Dumbledore paused, coughed twice, and then said, "It's rare to see young people as diligent as you two. If all the students were like you two, that would be wonderful."
"Judging from your appearance, you're probably not just here to reminisce about life with the two of us; you must have something to say." Louis tried to cut off Old Deng's path in the middle.
Dumbledore reached into Louis's pocket and pulled out a lemon sorbet. He slowly peeled off the coating and put the candy in his mouth. Savoring the sweet lemon aroma, he couldn't help but squint his eyes. After a while, he slowly said, "There's something I need Louis to help this incompetent headmaster with."
Louis: ?
"Well, I've always wanted to get my students more enthusiastic about their studies, but the results haven't been very noticeable. So I was wondering if you, who's been studying in the Muggle world, have any good ideas?" Dumbledore blinked. "I understand the importance of balancing study with rest, but our students seem to be too relaxed."
"You should have said so earlier! I thought it was something serious." Louis laughed. "I have plenty of solutions."
He must have been through a lot of hardship in his past life; clearly, years of experience have made him a skilled doctor.
"Then it's settled." Dumbledore's face lit up with a playful smile again.
"I hope you won't regret it," Louis said quietly.
Dumbledore looked up and thought for a moment, but was interrupted by the sound of footsteps: "Hmm, it seems Mr. Filch is here. I think you two might have some minor trouble. Good night~"
After saying that, Dumbledore very disloyally made his escape.
Louis patted the still blushing senior on the shoulder and reminded her, "Don't blame me for not warning you, Filch is coming up..."
……
Louis decided to give the untrustworthy Old Deng a real eye-opener.
Harry was indeed very obedient; he remembered Louis's instructions and spent the entire night diligently preparing for Potions class. At breakfast, Louis checked on his preparation, and it turned out to be quite good.
Draco was acting strangely today; his little face was contorted, and it was unclear who he was being awkward with.
After lunch, it was time for Potions class, a long class that lasted a full hour. Everyone sat in the gloomy classroom for a long time before Snape finally arrived.
He walked with a swagger, his black cloak billowing with each step, making him appear like a black bat stumbling across the ground. Standing beside the podium, he scanned the classroom twice, picked up the roster, and began calling attendance.
When they got to Harry, they even stopped.
He said slowly and quietly, "Oh, yes—Harry Potter, our new…famous guy."
Harry looked at Snape with neither arrogance nor servility, keeping in mind the words Louis had told him.
"Professor Snape hates it when people look around. You'd better open your eyes wide and look at him carefully."
His eyes were as black as his hair, cold and empty, Harry thought.
"This course doesn't require you to foolishly wave your wands. You're here to learn the precise science and rigorous craftsmanship of potion-making." His voice wasn't loud, almost nasal, and he spoke slowly: "I don't expect you to truly appreciate the beauty of that cauldron simmering over a low flame, its white smoke rising and its fragrant aroma wafting out. You won't truly understand the wondrous magic of the liquid flowing into people's veins, its ability to captivate the mind and cloud the will... I can teach you how to increase your reputation, brew glory, and even stop death—"
At this point, he changed his tone: "But there has to be one condition: you can't be the kind of idiots and fools I often encounter."
After delivering the classic opening remarks, the whole class fell silent. Louis glanced at Harry to his left and, seeing that Harry was also secretly looking at him, subtly gave him a encouraging look.
"Potter!" Snape suddenly called out, and Louis, seeing this, startled Harry. "What would I get if I added daffodil root powder to wormwood infusion?"
"A powerful sleeping pill, Professor, is a potion of life and death."
Snape smirked, walked over to Harry, and stared intently into his eyes, a smile playing on his lips. But he quickly withdrew it—for when he saw Harry's face, his expression instantly turned to disgust.
Why does a pair of perfectly good eyes have a face?
Harry didn't see Snape's micro-expressions; he was just staring into his dark, deep eyes.
"So, Potter... if I asked you to find me a piece of bezoar, where would you go to look for it?"
"In the stomach of a cow, Professor," Harry answered quickly. This was all the key point Louis had highlighted for him, so it was a piece of cake.
He was secretly grateful to Louis, and he figured he should at least treat his good friend to a couple of chocolate frogs or something.
"Well, well... Potter, then tell me, what's the difference between Aconitum carmichaelii and Aconitum davidii?"
Snape raised an eyebrow, but no one could glean any information from his expressionless face.
"Aconite and Aconitum carmichaelii are the same plant, also collectively known as Aconitum, Professor."
Harry's confidence soared. Louise had tested him on these questions earlier that day, and a relaxed and confident smile graced his face as he blinked his emerald green eyes at Snape.
Snape was stunned. He remembered the same pair of eyes, the same eyes whose owner had looked so relaxed and confident in Potions class, and who always looked at him with a slight smile.
That was his lost youth.
"It seems... fame isn't without reason sometimes." Snape forced an awkward smile. "Gryffindor +5 points."
The Gryffindor lion cubs erupted in cheers, and even Harry's smile towards Snape became genuine. The Slytherins, on the other hand, were all filled with disbelief; Draco even whispered to Louise that someone else might be Snape in disguise.
"Silence!" Snape said expressionlessly. "Disrupting classroom order will result in a five-point deduction for Gryffindor!"
Harry's smile vanished instantly.
"Looks like it isn't." Draco's eyebrows rose again; he was pleased to see Gryffindor in trouble.
After all, Slytherin and Gryphon are inherently at odds, and Louis is an exception among exceptions.
After interrogating Potter, Snape explained twice how to brew the scabies potion before dividing the students into pairs to experiment. Harry's group was unfortunate, sitting next to Neville and Seamus—the two were like hidden dragons and phoenixes, one a ruthless man capable of boiling a pot until it burst, the other a demolition genius.
But Harry didn't know, and just laughed carefree. Actually, even if he did know, given his kind nature, he wouldn't have looked down on them.
Louis and Crabbe were assigned to the same group. Seeing how clumsy and stupid Crabbe didn't seem like he could brew potions well, Louis decided to let him do some rough work, such as grinding venom powder.
Snape, dragging his long robes, paced around, spewing venom indiscriminately. Louis, with the Half-Blood Prince's Notebook in hand, was completely unfazed, effortlessly brewing a perfect potion of scabies.
Looking at the blue potion in Louis's pot, Snape nodded in satisfaction: "Very good potion, Slytherin—five points."
Before he could finish speaking, Potter Sky roared, "Neville! No! Don't add the porcupine quills!"
The entire classroom turned to Harry, who swiftly snatched the porcupine quill from Neville's hand, a look of relief spreading across his face. "Neville," he said, "make sure to remove the pot from the fire before adding the porcupine quill, otherwise the potion will corrode it!"
Louis had already given him a thorough preview of the process of making scabies medicine this morning during breakfast.
"Potter is right." Snape's sinister voice rang out behind Neville: "Longbottom, you should probably cram a little more into that troll-like brain of yours, even just a little..."
"As for you, Miss... Mr. Potter." Snape looked at Harry, a hint of longing flashing in his eyes: "Being able to remind your classmate in time and prevent him from ending up in the hospital wing—Gryffindor points."
Harry's mother's last name was Evans before she married James.
