Chapter 24 Your Flowers Are Dead
Chapter 24 Your Flowers Are Dead
It should be said that Snape's attitude towards Harry in the original books wasn't just because of his appearance. In Snape's eyes, Harry hadn't inherited even a tiny bit of Lily's Potions talent; instead, he'd inherited his "dead" father's flying ability. It would be strange if Snape wasn't furious.
Of course, this is not Harry's fault. Snape acted like a villain, which made Harry dislike him and even neglect his Potions class.
Why are you, a grown man, acting so arrogant?
Harry's talent for potions is actually quite high; he just lacks someone to guide him.
After class, Lewis stayed behind. Actually, he didn't really want to chat with Snape; having that sharp-tongued senior was already enough for him... but at Dumbledore's request, he had no choice but to bite the bullet and face the challenge.
"What brings our distinguished Mr. Mountbatten to visit his busy professor?"
Snape asked in a drawn-out, sarcastic tone.
"Professor, this isn't the place to talk. Can we go to your office to chat?"
Louis shrugged.
Snape stared at him for a long time before slowly saying, "Come with me."
Snape's office was always so gloomy and terrifying. Louis tried not to look at the specimens and strange animal entrails. He looked around and found that this time on Professor Snape's desk, there was a wilted lily.
"Speak, Mr. Mountbatten, what brings you here?"
"Professor, as your student and as a member of Slytherin, I feel it is necessary to offer some advice on Slytherin's future planning."
Louis gave a graceful and polite bow.
"What could you possibly have..." Snape started to say, but then suddenly remembered that this guy came from a political family. Even Snape, who was completely ignorant of Muggle affairs, knew about his grandfather Louis's despicable "Mountbatten Plan".
Who knows, he might actually be a genius? Maybe Slytherin has stumbled upon a ghost.
Thinking of this, he changed the subject: "Well, tell me what you think. If it's reasonable, I'll consider it."
"Professor, you are sometimes too protective of us Slytherin students. Some students, and even the professor, don't understand your kindness in nurturing young talents. You should know that, shouldn't you?"
"Hmph..." Snape snorted coldly, his expression clearly saying, "I, Snape, have no need to explain my actions to others."
"Look," Louis pulled a notebook from his pocket, on which were written his plans: "As your favorite student, and the student who admires you the most, I have taken the liberty of drafting some plans regarding the Academy Cup for your sake."
"Go on," Snape said, his gaze deep.
"My suggestion is that you can start with Potions class and implement two small policies: monthly exams and midterm exams. You can also use a 100-point system and send the grades to the students' parents when they are released."
Louis speaks very fast, but in a simple and easy-to-understand way.
"So, if you deduct points from students with lower grades, wouldn't that seem more reasonable? That way, even their parents wouldn't complain. Okay... even if you're kind-hearted and can't bear to deduct points from students with lower grades, then... giving points to students with higher grades is reasonable, isn't it?"
Lewis glanced at Snape and continued, "You can average the scores of each house for each academic year, add points to the house with the highest average score, and deduct points from the house with the lowest average score."
"The plan is good, but..." Snape's deep gaze shifted to Louis's face, "What if Slytherin isn't number one?"
"I simply can't imagine a Slytherin who can't get good grades in Potions," Louis shrugged. "I guess he just doesn't respect your authority, Headmaster."
"Your idea is quite good, Mr. Mountbatten," Snape said, smirking. "But not everyone is interested in Potions."
"As Headmaster, your power is certainly unlimited," Louis confidently reassured Snape. "How about we implement a policy within the house—designating 19:00 PM to 21:00 PM daily as evening study time for Slytherins… If you have the time, you can supervise it personally; if not, you can select a highly respected and virtuous student representative from each year to oversee the students' studies. What do you think?"
"I don't have time to supervise you little monsters, Mr. Mountbatten," Snape said in his habitually sarcastic tone.
"If you don't have time, just leave it to me to arrange," Louis said, taking full responsibility.
"So... Louise—what is your purpose in doing this?" Snape's tone and gaze were scrutinizing.
"Born in hardship, die in comfort, that's an old saying from my mother's hometown." Louis smiled, and out of loyalty, didn't expose Professor Dumbledore: "The wizarding world is not peaceful and stable, and there are still countless dark wizards—especially the Man of Victoire who is still on the run."
"If I put in a little more effort at school, I might shed fewer drops of blood if I encounter a dark wizard in the future. I don't want to suddenly receive the devastating news that my good friends, like Ron, Draco, or Harry, have been killed by a dark wizard."
Louis shrugged. "Just imagine, Mr. Potter's beautiful green eyes, what they'll look like before he dies..."
"Alright," Snape interrupted Louis, "I understand your good intentions. Now, you can go."
"Yes, Professor." Louis nodded, then couldn't help but glance at the wilted lily on the table, kindly reminding her, "Professor, your lily seems to be dead."
He regretted it as soon as he finished speaking. Snape waved his wand, and the door suddenly swung open with a "whoosh".
"Get out..." Snape said, his face grim, enunciating each word clearly.
Louis fled the office as if he were escaping.
He suddenly remembered that famous, despicable, hellish joke from his past life.
Why didn't Severus Snape apply for the professorship of herbalism?
"Answer: Because his Lily (the English word for lily is Lily) died."
Back in the Slytherin common room, Louis saw Marcus Flint and Samir Lestrange sitting there chatting. Upon seeing him enter, the two quickly stood up and respectfully handed him stacks of manuscripts.
"What's this?" Louis seemed to have forgotten why he had asked them to come. He took the manuscript, crossed his legs, and sat down on the sofa with an air of nonchalance.
"These are our reflections and self-criticisms after class, Your Highness." The two men's expressions were obsequious and humble.
"Hmm." Louis remembered. He quickly flipped through the papers. Although they were a bit repetitive, the sincerity was still there. Marcus, in particular, wrote a very moving reflection, especially the line "There can only be one sun in the sky, Your Highness, and I only have one sun in my heart," which was truly touching.
Oh no, Kaka is actually myself.
His attitude was ambiguous, but amidst the anxious yet expectant looks in their eyes, he said calmly, "In a few days, Professor Snape will be introducing a few policies within the house—you two should prepare a list of students each academic year who can take on supervisory responsibilities and cooperate with the implementation of these policies."
