Dungeon Designer: Bringing Smiles to the World!
Chapter 5 The Lost Knight: I'll Protect You!
The sapphire staff smashed the head of a zombie.
"I've had enough!"
Elisa's furious roar echoed throughout the entire first-floor prison area.
One hour, a whole hour!
Do you know how those three spent that hour?!
The ceiling, under the bed, inside the closet, and in the cracks in the walls were all stuffed with maggots and living corpses!
As for the Lickers, although the three of them had learned about the monsters' weaknesses from the previous note, they knew that as long as they kept their distance, dealing with them wouldn't be too difficult.
However, this feeling of being terrified with every step still tormented Elisa to the point of nervous breakdown.
She would rather go back to the magic academy and spend a month studying the vast collection of dry magic books in the library than stay in this dungeon for another second!
"Level 1 dungeons aren't too big; we should be about halfway through exploring them."
Joel planted his sword on the ground and rubbed his sore shoulders. Grace, who was standing next to him, immediately understood and continued with a healing prayer.
"If we manage to clear this place, I'll never come back to this hellhole again," Elisa complained. "The other treasures besides the sapphire crystal are pitifully few; it's a complete waste of effort."
Grace reassured her, "Don't worry, Miss Elisa, perhaps the most precious treasures are hidden deeper inside?"
"Who knows, the person who designed this underground city might be a stingy devil." Elisa pouted and crushed a sapphire crystal to replenish her magic power.
"Stop complaining, let's go." Joel, having rested, raised his sword again.
A few minutes later.
As the three of them rounded another corner, the previously cramped and narrow prison passage suddenly opened up into a bright and spacious area.
After enduring numerous hardships, they finally arrived at the connection point leading to the second level of the underground tomb.
However, even though they had left the oppressive prison, Elisa, Joel, and Grace did not let their guard down.
In dungeons, open terrain is often accompanied by a large number of monsters.
Elisa quickly cast the Light spell, slightly illuminating the dimly lit room.
What happened next sent chills down the spines of the three of them.
The floor of the entire chamber was covered with a thick layer of bubbling red silt, as if it were a swamp soaked in blood.
Furthermore, the seemingly open environment is actually overgrown with weeds and shrubs that are more than half a person tall, resulting in extremely poor visibility.
Grace bent down, her fair fingers touching the surface of the red mud. After a moment, she stood up and said, "Be careful, this is a poison pool."
"Luckily we brought antidote, and you know how to cure poisons." Joel said, trying to take a step, but his boot sank deep into the poison pool.
"Mobility will be affected, you two need to stay close."
Elisa, however, stepped into the poison pool without hesitation.
After a moment's internal struggle, Grace followed suit, assuring everyone, "Don't worry, with me here, no one will get poisoned."
This surprised the other two.
Although they haven't spent much time together, Elisa and Joel have already figured it out.
Grace, the priestess who took the initiative to team up with them, must be a young lady from a noble family who ran away to become an adventurer seeking thrills. It is truly commendable that she would dare to enter the filthy poison pool with them.
Don't be surprised that a half-merman and half-human can be a descendant of nobility. The world's order doesn't have such severe discrimination between races, and intermarriage between various races is not uncommon.
They hadn't gone far out of the poison pool when Joel, who was at the front, gripped his longsword tightly, reminding the two behind him.
"Be careful, I have a bad feeling."
"Don't jinx it..." Alyssa glared at Joel before she could finish her sentence.
"Awooo..."
A continuous barking of dogs then rang out around the three of them.
The next second, several rotting wild dogs leaped out of the bushes and pounced on Joel at the front of the group.
Joel immediately raised his sword to parry, shouting, "Back to the cell! We can't fight these monsters in the poison pool!"
Even without him saying anything, Elisa had already grabbed Grace by the collar and run back.
Rotten wild dogs kept attacking the two of them.
"Joe, what about Mr. Joel?" Grace panicked for the first time, even forgetting to cast a buffing prayer.
"If we stay here, all three of us will die!"
Elisa chanted a spell, and magic missiles and fire arrows rained down on the corrupt wild dogs.
Mustering her courage, Grace cast a purification spell on the corrupt wild dogs, but it still had no effect. She could only cast a prayer to increase Elisa's stamina and agility.
Fortunately, the Rotten Hounds don't have much more health than the undead, and missiles and fire arrows will severely damage them if they hit.
Before long, the two rascals left the poison pool area and retreated back to the prison tunnel they had come from.
Looking back, Elisa and Grace found with grim expressions that Joel was already entangled by seven or eight rotting wild dogs and unable to escape.
Without the swordsman as the front line, the two of them, one a mage and the other a priestess, would be eliminated sooner or later even with the terrain advantage.
Moreover, the two discovered in despair that, due to the great distance, neither buff prayers nor magic missiles could provide support to Joel, who was fighting alone.
"Damn Dorne Dungeons!"
Elisa's face contorted as she continuously crushed the radiance crystals to replenish her mana, firing magic missiles as if they were free, completely disregarding the backlash caused by excessive spellcasting.
But no matter how many spells she cast, a steady stream of rotting wild dogs continued to surge into the poison pool.
No matter how you look at it, it's only a matter of time before the three of them are wiped out.
The reason for Elisa's anger is quite simple.
Joel and Grace are alright. It's their first time dying in the last few days, so there won't be any aftereffects after they respawn. They'll just lose all their gear.
But she had already died once before!
If Elisa dies again in a short period of time, there is a small chance that she will experience amnesia.
No normal person would want this to happen.
If Alyssa wants to avoid this happening, she has no choice but to spend at least a day or two in the dungeon.
But how is that possible?
Elisa didn't think the lord of this underground city would let her live on.
Damn it.
Elisa and Grace could only watch helplessly as Joel was pounced on by several rotting wild dogs, unable to do anything about it.
Seeing this, Elisa grabbed Grace's shoulders with both hands, her eyes bloodshot.
"Hold me off for one minute. I need to cast a second-level spell—Shattering Sound Wave—to kill all these monsters!"
"No! Miss Elisa, you'll suffer a backlash from the spell!"
Grace immediately shook her head. For Elisa, a low-level mage, casting a second-circle spell was already a bit of a struggle, and with the previous chain of spells, Elisa was likely to suffer a backlash!
"This is our only chance! Stop hesitating!"
Having said that, Elisa raised her staff, preparing to begin chanting the incantation.
But it was at this moment that...
"Ring ring..."
A clear, ringing bell rang out from afar.
The rotten wild dog, sent by Rogge and carrying a summoning bell in its mouth, was running towards Elisa and Grace from the side.
Elisa could sense that the bell in the dog's mouth that was making a sound seemed to be a magical artifact.
"That bell might change the situation."
A somewhat unrealistic idea popped into Elisa's mind.
"Whatever! Things can't get any worse anyway!"
With a determined look, Elisa abandoned the incantation for "Shattering Sound Waves" and instead fired two magical missiles at the rotting wild dog, killing it instantly.
Elisa then used another spell she possessed—[Hand of the Mage].
The summoning bell swayed and floated up, eventually landing in Elisa's hand.
Without hesitation, Elisa immediately began to shake the summoning bell vigorously.
"Ring ring..."
Instantly, Elisa felt that most of the magic power in her body had been drained by the bell.
As the bell rang, a heavily armored knight from a lost homeland appeared before Elisa.
"Whoosh..."
The lost knight drew his twin swords from his waist.
With just a single, afterimage-like swing, the two rotting wild dogs that pounced on Elisa and Grace were hacked to pieces.
