Chapter 98 Theological Student: Dzhugashvili
Chapter 98 Theological Student: Dzhugashvili (3/3)
Rothschild, his face cold, led a few crusaders and angrily left the Adriatic family mansion.
Watching the group's departing figures, Keiraelt immediately turned around and looked at Anred with a serious expression.
"Tell me all the evidence you have."
Andrei stood there, stunned.
"Father, I—"
"Stop talking nonsense, every minute and every second is something we have to fight for." Kerrert's tone was urgent, without the slightest hesitation.
After saying that, he turned to Hex, signaling him to speak.
Hex summarized the case: "Two officers in the Third Precinct have been investigating a series of heinous murders in the past two years."
"Their investigation revealed that this type of murder had started in District 5 five years ago."
"It is spreading to the upper urban area, and last year it affected three districts."
"At the beginning of this year, it had already spread to Zone 2."
"During the investigation, they met Kars, and the three of them joined forces to investigate thoroughly. They eventually locked onto clues that all pointed to a secret organization called the King in Yellow."
"And Rothschild Tuttle was the leader of this organization."
As soon as he finished speaking, Hex handed the album of incriminating evidence to Kerrett.
Kerrett silently flipped through the photo album. Even though she was used to the bloodshed of the battlefield, her fingertips paused slightly. Her expression remained cold and indifferent throughout.
He closed the book, let out a long sigh, his eyes filled with sorrow and anger.
"I thought I had returned to the Crimean battlefield."
"Those heretics in hell treat their believers no better."
"The Tuttle family has actually raised such a degenerate scoundrel."
"But this evidence is far from enough," Hex bluntly pointed out the crux of the matter.
"Rothschild had countless ways to absolve himself of responsibility."
"As he just said, this could be a deliberate frame-up by a cult."
"No one can prove that the album belongs to him; Rust's testimony alone is not enough to bring him down."
Kerrett was well aware of this fatal flaw.
Currently, they lack direct and irrefutable witness testimony and physical evidence.
Unless irrefutable evidence left behind by Carls during his lifetime can be found.
He looked at Anred and sighed helplessly.
"Karls never trusted you, his father, until the very end."
"Anred, you have failed in your duty."
Anred lowered his head, his face full of guilt.
"Instead of fixating on easily destroyed physical evidence, we should focus on key witnesses and the crime scene," Hex said.
The King in Yellow needs a fixed, secret location to hold his cult rituals, and he also needs his henchmen to run errands and find and capture victims.
Given Rothschild's high social standing, at least for now, he would never personally go out into the streets to hunt prey.
He committed crimes in District 5 before, so he must have had a puppet in charge of doing the dirty work.
Hextech asked, "Which is the most powerful mafia organization in District 5?"
Kerrert was startled and instantly understood his intention.
"It's the Molt family—"
"Do you want to?"
"Go straight for the gang and get all the confessions," Hex said.
Keira looked at Hex with admiration in her eyes.
"Hex, your courage and decisiveness far surpass those of your father."
"But simply targeting the gangs is far from enough."
"Gang members' testimonies have no credibility whatsoever, and are more likely to be counter-accused by the other side."
Kerrert tapped the tabletop lightly with her fingertips, her tone decisive and ruthless.
"What we need to arrest are the most core and loyal people around Rothschild."
"Vice Mayor George of the City Hall, and Police Commissioner Rivers."
"If we can capture these two people, we'll have obtained the key witnesses."
"If we're going to do it, let's do it big!"
Hextech couldn't help but nod in agreement.
This old man has even greater audacity than him, directly aiming to control the two top officials of the municipal government and the police, thus undermining their power in one fell swoop.
This is the perfect opportunity.
Muller Tuttle, head of the Tuttle family, went to Manchester to provide support and was not in Newcastle.
Newly appointed Bishop Tyrion Segerst has just arrived in Newcastle to assume his post.
He also needed a sensational case to establish his authority and consolidate his power.
If they can capture the two high-ranking officials and bring them before the new bishop to publicly expose all their crimes, the Rothschilds will have nowhere to escape.
He truly deserves to be called a veteran who personally experienced the hellish battlefield of Crimea and fought to the death against heretical demons.
Kerrett's decisiveness and boldness were far more ruthless than Hextech had anticipated.
After finalizing the plan, Kerrett immediately mobilized the private army of the Adriatic family, dividing them into two groups.
He personally led the team straight to the police department, which was the most heavily guarded and armed, to arrest Commissioner Rivers.
Another team, led by Andre, raided the city hall and detained the deputy mayor.
Of course, it would be difficult for the Adriatic family alone to carry out this kind of "rebellion".
However, United Front UFSAT reinforced soldiers have already arrived in Newcastle.
At the entrance of the police station, Keira stood tall and straight, observing.
Hextech looked at the old man beside him, full of confusion, "Why did you bring me along?"
Kerrert gazed ahead, his tone unusually solemn.
"The Adelia family has been in business for four generations."
"Now all that's left are power-hungry, cowardly, and lazy mediocre people."
"Your father, Andre, is diligent, but dull-witted by nature."
"Karls was the family's only hope, but he's dead."
"Whether you admit it or not, you are the last hope of the Adriatic family."
Hex didn't respond; he had never been a member of the Adriatic family.
He was just a passerby, a United Front enforcer who borrowed Karls' identity to go to London, a lonely traveler who inexplicably fell into this twisted world.
He had no connection with the Adriatic family, nor would he ever truly belong to them.
-
"I brought you here to teach you how to make decisions in such desperate situations."
Even though his tone was somewhat stiff, Hex could tell that Kellett had already acknowledged his identity.
He had no desire to respond to such lecturing.
Before Kellett could speak again, the police station doors suddenly opened.
The portly police chief, Lee Fuss, looked flustered and quickly got into his car.
Three police cars, fully escorted, sped straight toward District 1.
A cold, sneer curled at the corner of Keira's lips.
"The younger generation of the Tuttle family are indeed more impatient than their grandfather, rushing to report to their master so quickly."
"Let's do it!"
At a command, more than ten reinforced soldiers from the joint front, who had been lying in ambush on both sides of the street, rushed out instantly.
Two iron chains blocked the way, lying firmly across the middle of the road.
Caught off guard, the lead police car crashed into the chain and slammed on the brakes.
The second police car was unable to avoid it and rear-ended it.
The third police car came to a hasty stop, and a group of officers hurriedly got out of the car. Before they could react, a heavily armed soldier pressed a gun to their backs.
"Put down your weapons!" the soldier said coldly.
"What exactly do you want!" Rivers staggered out of the car, and when he saw that the leader was Kelley, his expression changed drastically. He then shouted angrily and began to turn the tables on them.
"The Adelia family, this is rebellion!"
"Are they lackeys of the Adventists, or traitors of the United Front!"
Kerrett remained indifferent, showing no concern whatsoever for this slander.
"I also have doubts about whether Newcastle's senior management has been infiltrated by cultists."
"Director Rivers, please come with me."
"In front of Bishop Tyrion, he shall accuse me of betraying the Church."
Upon hearing this, Rivers turned deathly pale and screamed hysterically, "Insolence!"
"This is illegal kidnapping! I will never go with you!"
Two enhanced soldiers immediately stepped forward and pressed their guns firmly against his temples.
The once arrogant and domineering Rivers was instantly terrified, his face full of fawning obsequiousness as he repeatedly begged for mercy: "No, no, no!"
"I'll go with you! I'll cooperate!"
Kerrert snorted coldly, his eyes filled with contempt for the high-ranking official's cowardice and obsequiousness.
He waved for the soldiers to put away their guns and then put the man into the vehicle.
Just as everyone relaxed their guard, Rivers suddenly pulled out a pistol from his waist, his face contorted in a ferocious grimace, and pulled the trigger hard against Kellett's back.
"You old bastard, die!"
The bullet whizzed through the air, only to be caught firmly in a hand the next second.
Hextech opened his palm and removed the bullet embedded in his hand, leaving only a faint white mark on his palm, completely unharmed.
"Demon! Heretic!" Rivers was stunned at first, then terrified, screaming in agony, and still wanted to fire.
Hextech lifted him up with one hand, slammed him to the ground, grabbed the back of his neck, and subdued him.
"Lord Adelya, you've been out of action for a long time, and your vigilance is terrible," Hex teased.
Kerrett looked at the scene before her, smiled helplessly, and sighed deeply.
"Yes, I'm getting old."
Just then, a guard quickly stepped forward and saluted.
"Young Master Adria, there is another person being held in the prison van."
"I'm not a criminal!"
Behind the guards, a young man dressed in a black priest-like robe and sporting a large beard immediately spoke up to defend himself.
"I am a theology student at Newcastle Elementary Theological Seminary."
He looked old-fashioned, but his face was actually quite young. However, his eyes left a deep impression on Hextech.
Cold and hard.
It looks like steel.
Hextech asked, "Since you're a seminary student, why are you handcuffed and locked in a prison van?"
The bearded young man showed no sign of resentment. "I argued with my classmates at the college that I believed Karls Adrià was murdered."
"He was murdered for exposing the darkness within this city."
"He was arrested and detained by the police chief just for making those remarks."
"It seems they intend to use me as a bargaining chip to curry favor with Tuttle."
He recounted the whole incident in a calm and even tone, devoid of any personal emotion, as composed as a block of cold iron.
Hextech sized him up: "Are you acquainted with Karls Adrià?"
"We are classmates and close friends." The young man spoke in a calm tone, as if he were just chatting about trivial matters of others.
"He was a good man with a strong sense of justice, and he was secretly investigating a major case before his death."
"They probably didn't tell me any details of the investigation because they were worried about implicating me."
He paused slightly at this point.
"But those wicked people in high positions dragged me into this."
"How ridiculous."
The seminary student looked up at Hex and tentatively began to speak.
"You're Hex Adelya? Karls's brother?"
This was the first time Hextech had been addressed by his identity in a proper way, instead of being scornfully called a bastard by others.
He nodded slightly in agreement.
The young man gave him a deep look and spoke solemnly, offering a reminder.
"The Tuttle family's influence is not so easy to completely eradicate."
"You must be more careful in your actions."
These words piqued Hextech's interest.
"You, a seminary student, actually stood up against the Tuttle family?"
"I'm not targeting Tuttle," the theology student said calmly.
"What I oppose is all injustice and oppression in this world."
"It's just that in Newcastle, the source of oppression and darkness happens to be the Tuttle family."
Hextech highly agreed with these unique insights.
However, he is currently very busy and has no spare time to have in-depth conversations with people.
Hex grabbed the handcuffs on the young man's wrists with both hands, and with a slight force, the hard metal handcuffs snapped in two.
"This is none of your business anymore." Hex waved his hand, signaling him to leave.
The young man nodded slightly and turned to leave.
"Wait," Hextech called out, stopping him. "What's your name?"
"Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili".
Hex raised an eyebrow upon hearing this long list of names.
"Judging from your name, you used to be Russian?"
"In the past, Russia existed, but now it no longer exists as a country in the world."
After saying this, the young man turned and walked away.
Hex stood still, silently repeating the name in his mind, a strange sense of familiarity rising within him.
I feel like I've heard this name somewhere before.
