Chapter 99 Bishop Tyrion
Chapter 99 Bishop Tyrion (1/4)
Night had fallen, and all of Newcastle was quiet.
Tyrion Seghest sat before the dim light of an oil lamp, perusing the various documents and reports that had arrived that day.
He had only been in office for a month when he realized that the position of diocesan bishop was not so easy. He had been working in an administrative job in London and had worked his way up to the opportunity to be transferred to a diocesan bishop position through family connections and seniority. However, he did not expect the situation in Newcastle to be so dire.
He was completely sidelined and had no real power.
Real power fell into the hands of local church nobles, led by the Tuttle family, while he, having long served in a clerical position and lacking a team, found it difficult to make any significant progress in Newcastle.
They were even forced to relinquish their authority to go to Manchester to assist with the aftermath.
He was incredibly frustrated, now only able to review unimportant documents.
But the deeper he read the documents today, the more his brows furrowed.
The entire report was filled with accusations against the Adriatic family.
Many priests, high priests, and even nobles criticized the Adriatic family for spreading rumors and deliberately exaggerating an accidental explosion into a premeditated murder, calling their actions excessive and making a mountain out of a molehill.
"Absurd! Utterly absurd!" Tyrion muttered angrily, his face full of rage.
Even if the Adriatic family's investigation into the deaths of their clansmen causes some turmoil, it should never have been initiated by so many high-ranking members of the Newcastle Church Federation.
Even though he was in an office job, he understood that the Tuttle family was behind this.
But why would Edlia, a military nobleman, become enemies with the Tuttle family?
He rubbed his throbbing temples, intending to rest for a moment.
The door was suddenly pushed open in a panic, and a trusted confidant who had followed him from London rushed in.
"Little Maud, I told you that you must always knock before entering a room, no matter what."
Tyrion's tone was tinged with impatience.
The boy was only seventeen or eighteen years old. He was his family's nephew and also a student he personally mentored.
"Uncle, something terrible has happened!" Mord's face turned pale, and he was so panicked that he couldn't speak coherently.
"I already told you, address people by their job titles when you're at work!" Tyrion sighed softly.
"What happened now?"
Tyrion picked up his teacup, took a small sip of hot tea, and forcibly suppressed the irritation in his heart.
"Mr. Kellett Adrià, with Deputy Mayor George and Police Chief Rivers in custody, is demanding to see you!"
He said a powerful heretical cult was lurking in Newcastle! They were plotting to overthrow the Church Federation's rule!
puff!
Tyrion spat out his tea, coughed violently, and all his weariness vanished.
He dared not delay for a moment, immediately straightened his clothes, and hurried to the reception room.
As soon as he stepped into the room, the scene before him shocked him.
Kelley stood in the hall, his expression calm and his demeanor composed.
Beside him, Deputy Mayor George and Police Commissioner Rivers were bound and kneeling on the ground in a disheveled state, completely devoid of their former dignified and powerful demeanor.
Tyrion felt a wave of dizziness wash over him, and suppressing his anger, he looked at Cairette: "Mr. Adelia, I need an explanation."
"Your Excellency, I can explain it to you, but I think you should look at this first."
Kerrett spoke calmly as she slowly handed over a photo album.
Tyrion took a deep breath, reached out and took the album, and slowly opened it.
After reading only the first page, his fingers froze instantly, and his face changed drastically, turning deathly pale with a bluish tinge.
Tyrion never experienced a battlefield and rose to bishop status solely through his civil service achievements.
He was proficient in studying church doctrines and preaching, but he had little experience in fighting heresies.
Therefore, he had never seen such a dehumanizing, bloody, and bizarre scene.
He hadn't experienced the bloody Crimean War, nor had he participated in the thousand-day war between the Church and heretics in North Africa, so he simply couldn't bear the brutal content in the series.
"What is this?"
His fingertips trembled as he turned the pages, his face growing increasingly grim, and the pressure around him reaching its lowest point.
The series is full of horrific scenes of innocent girls and children being brutally dismembered and wantonly murdered.
A group of people wearing deer antler masks used all sorts of vicious methods to leave eerie cult marks on the corpses. Each and every one of these acts was horrific and appalling.
Tyrion slammed the photo album shut, his hands trembling slightly. His face was ashen as he looked at Keiraelt, his voice hoarse and grave: "Who is this?"
"This is the King in Yellow, a dark organization that has been entrenched in Newcastle for five years and has degenerated into a heretical cult."
Kerrert nodded slightly, his gaze falling on the two people on the ground.
"These two people in front of you are high-ranking members of the organization."
Tyrion was jolted, his eyes filled with disbelief and shock, and he shook his head repeatedly.
"Impossible! This is absolutely impossible!"
"Why would they commit such heinous acts that defy the church and harm ordinary people!"
He strode up to Rivers and ripped the gag out of his mouth.
Rivers immediately let out a heart-wrenching wail, tears streaming down his face: "Your Excellency, Bishop, spare my life!"
"I was coerced; I was forced to join this organization!"
"Let me explain!"
His body was covered in wounds, and his eyes were filled with fear. Tyrion could tell at a glance that he had been severely tortured.
But now, he has no desire to pursue the matter of torture; he only wants to thoroughly investigate the truth of the whole affair.
"Shut up, tell the truth, and don't hide a single word!"
Rivers looked up nervously, and when he caught a glimpse of Hex's cold gaze, he swallowed all his excuses and began to confess, his whole body trembling.
Five years ago, I was just the patrol captain of the fifth district.
"It was pouring rain that day when my team reported that a female corpse had floated up the river from the fifth district to the fourth district."
"When I arrived at the scene to investigate, I found the body covered in bizarre injuries, indicating it was not a natural death; it was clearly the work of a cult."
O
"I immediately reported the case, but all the reports disappeared without a trace, and I—I dared not investigate any further."
Three days later, a church priest came to me and asked me for the body.
"I dared not disobey, so I personally followed him to deliver the body to a secluded and quiet villa in District 1."
"It was there that I met Rothschild Tuttle."
"Who did you say you saw?!"
Tyrion's eyes widened suddenly, his voice rising abruptly in disbelief.
Rivers whispered, "It's Rothschild Tuttle!"
hiss-
Tyrion gasped, frozen in place, utterly shocked.
As the new Bishop of Newcastle, he was very familiar with the name and had even met the man in person.
This man, hailed by the entire city as the church's rising star and the heir to the Tuttle family, is widely recognized as a promising future bishop.
Even though he had a vague feeling that this person wasn't as pure as the outside world praised, he couldn't believe that he would be involved with cults and the abuse of children.
"Do you know who you're accusing?" Tyrion couldn't help but shout angrily.
"You are slandering a future, renowned clergyman who will lead a church district!"
Rivers trembled violently, kowtowing frantically: "I didn't lie!"
Tyrion trembled, his face pale, and he was speechless. The meeting room fell silent.
"Your Excellency, let him finish speaking first," Hex said, breaking the silence.
Tyrion turned to look at him, instantly recognizing him: "You're Hex Adelya, the bastard?"
Hextech nodded slightly, then kicked Rivers hard in the back: "Explain yourself!"
He had just had the United Front's interrogation experts deal with those two; pampered as they were, they couldn't withstand the pressure and immediately confessed everything. It was much easier than Hex had imagined.
Rivers winced in pain and continued his testimony, trembling.
"I was terrified and had no idea what they were going to do."
L
"But Rothschild Tuttle told me that he was doing something extraordinary to please God. He had just entered the church and said he wanted to form a secret organization exclusively for the elite, which he named the King in Yellow."
He said that only the elite at the top of power are qualified to join the organization.
"He even asked me if I wanted to rise to the top and wield great power overnight."
"I was completely bewitched by him at the time, and I agreed."
At this point, Rivers collapsed, covering his face and letting out a desperate, mournful wail.
"He gave me a dagger and forced me to plunge it into the chest of an innocent girl!"
"Let me rip that girl's heart out!!"
"I don't want to, I really don't want to!"
"But by the time I realized what was happening, my hands were already covered in blood!"
"I stuffed that rotten heart into my mouth!" he wailed, kowtowing repeatedly to Tyrion.
"God, please forgive me—"
Hextech grabbed the limp Rivers and slapped him hard across the face, knocking him to the ground.
"To have harmed countless innocent lives and committed such inhumane crimes," Kyle Wright said calmly.
"God will not forgive you!"
