The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 22 The Descent of the Empire
The appointed day, at the square in front of the United Nations main hall.
All the world leaders gathered here, and countless elite soldiers were deployed in the surrounding area. Civilians within a radius of tens of kilometers were evacuated to prevent anyone from disrupting the upcoming meeting.
Just three days ago, that shocking communication appeared before everyone, and people all over the world were discussing it. Countless opinions were put forward, but they could be roughly divided into three factions.
One faction is the surrender faction, mainly composed of the two permanent members of the UN Security Council in Europe, supplemented by other small and medium-sized countries. These countries believe that since this alien civilization claims to be human as well and has established a human empire spanning interstellar space, it would be better to surrender directly and actively accept their complete rule, perhaps even gaining some benefits from it.
The other faction is the neutral faction, mainly composed of the remaining three permanent members of the UN Security Council, and also the largest in number. These countries believe that since they are all human beings, there is room for negotiation. They hope to demonstrate their value in the eyes of this human empire through political discussions and military demonstrations, thereby gaining some autonomy.
There is also a final faction, the hardliners, or you could call them the suicide squad. They exist in every country, but are relatively few in number. They believe that they should not accept the rule of the human empire, but should take up arms to resist the alien civilization that invades their homeland, even detonating all their nuclear weapons to perish together with the enemy.
Finally, amidst the commotion, the world leaders arrived at the United Nations Hall—the place where they had made their appointment with the human empire.
The finest honor guard from the Dragon Kingdom was ready and stood in formation in the square. Reporters from various countries flocked to the scene, and all sorts of photographic equipment were set up around the square. Countless pieces of advanced technological equipment were taken from the armories of various countries and displayed in the exhibition halls on the side.
Three fighter jets emerged from the clouds, their bodies painted entirely in blue. They were equipped with cannons of various sizes and had different types of missiles mounted on their wings. These were the Thunderhawk gunships from the Nova Warriors Legion.
The military commanders of all nations were taken aback; their respective military radar systems had failed to detect the Human Empire's aircraft until they were spotted with the naked eye. Clearly, the Human Empire's technological prowess far surpassed that of any other nation on Earth.
As the Thunderhawk gunboat gradually landed on the square of the United Nations Hall, people finally saw that the nose and wings of the fighter jet had huge symbols that looked like "Ω".
Immediately afterwards, the stern of the Thunderhawk gunship slowly opened, and dozens of soldiers, each about 2.3 meters tall, emerged from it. They wore exquisite armor, painted in four equal parts blue and white, with no exposed skin, and adorned with intricate and mysterious decorative patterns.
Following closely behind were two tall warriors in black armor, a tall woman in light gold armor, and several people who looked about the same size as ordinary people.
A taller warrior stepped forward, approached the heads of state, removed his helmet, revealing a resolute human face.
"Are you the supreme leaders of this planet?" a deep voice boomed. "I am Lucretius Corvo."
"Welcome to Earth." The president of the United States quickly chimed in, because it was the person in front of him who had conducted a global communication three days ago, all in English. The president was wondering if he could establish a connection with this human empire.
The president had intended to shake hands, but upon seeing the other person's physique and imposing armor, he abandoned the idea, knowing that even a slight touch could easily jeopardize his small hand.
"Commander, I am the President of the United States, I..." The President prepared to introduce himself.
"Alright, no need for these tedious mortal formalities." The commander of the Corvo warband waved his hand, interrupting the mortal president in front of him. "I am here to confirm your return to the embrace of humanity and your submission to the name of the Lord of Humanity."
"Understood, Your Excellency." The president chuckled awkwardly and continued, "Shall we go inside and discuss the specifics?"
Corvo nodded and led some of the Astartes into the United Nations hall. The ground trembled as the Astartes walked together.
At the start of the meeting, since no stool suitable for Corvo's size had been prepared, the warband commander stood directly next to the round table, with the Astartes standing solemnly behind him, all of them having removed their helmets as a sign of respect.
"Commander," the President of the United States began, "what would we gain if we joined the Human Empire?"
"I've said it before, mortals." Corvo glanced at the mortal president who had spoken, "All human territories belong to the Empire, and all humans belong to the immortal Emperor."
As soon as the warband leader spoke, whispers immediately broke out throughout the room. All the leaders present were shocked by Corvo's words.
"Your Excellency, we are all human beings, we all speak the same language, do we really have to..." The president's face was pale, and he did not finish his sentence.
"I'm only speaking a form of Low Gothic, not the official language of the Empire," Corvo said, seeing through the president's thoughts and temporarily easing the tense atmosphere. "Furthermore, the Empire will not send anyone to take over your rule."
"However, there are too many countries on your planet. According to the instructions of Commander-in-Chief Elpis, we will help you establish a unified government that abides by imperial laws, and select a planetary governor from among you to oversee all the affairs of this planet."
"As for the military, the best troops will be assigned to the Astral Army or the Imperial Navy, while the less capable troops will be assigned to the Planetary Defense Force, which will specialize in handling the internal defense of planets. We will also assist you in establishing planetary defense systems and some infrastructure projects."
Corvo paused, glanced around at the mortals present, and then said, "The most important thing is taxation. We will provide you with a detailed tax schedule based on the actual situation of your planet."
"What kind of things are taxes collected? Money?" the president pressed.
"Your planet's minerals, special resources, or population," Corvo replied.
"Commander, what if someone refuses to join the human empire, or obstructs the unification of regimes?" the Grand Elder asked.
"Then eliminate them." A flash of anger crossed the chapter leader's eyes. "The Empire has no need for traitors."
He didn't wait for a translator to translate, but replied directly in the language of the Dragon Kingdom—another form of Low Gothic.
"Finally, we discovered Xenomorphs on your planet." The Chapter Leader's voice was filled with murderous intent. "If you can't handle it yourselves, we'll take care of it for you."
"Specific details will be communicated to you by a designated person later."
After saying that, Corvo left the meeting room and led a group of Astartes to the lounge to rest.
Then, a heated discussion broke out throughout the United Nations hall.
