The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 29 Brothers' Meeting
A dazzling light appeared out of nowhere and then disappeared, and hundreds of valiant warriors appeared inside the Emperor's Pride.
Elpis looked around. The surroundings were shrouded in darkness. No lights were turned on inside the warship. Only the lights from the power armor on the warriors who had been teleported there illuminated this small area.
After a few seconds of adjustment, the Space Marines, while raising their shields and weapons to guard against potential attacks, surveyed their surroundings.
As expected, the boarding party was teleported to the Avenue of Triumph—a magnificent corridor running along the central axis of the entire Imperial Pride. Elpis had been here before; he always sought opportunities to board each Primarch's flagship, partly to witness the pinnacle of human ingenuity, and partly to better communicate with the Primarchs.
The surrounding scenery had been completely transformed. The once magnificent statues of heroes lining the ceremonial avenue and the outstanding paintings hanging on the bulkheads had vanished without a trace. In their place were countless grotesque, twisted statues and blasphemous paintings made from a purple liquid mixture of blood and filth.
Moreover, in the corners on both sides of the corridor, one can see fragments of hero statues and artworks, with black slime clinging to these remnants of a bygone glorious era.
What's noteworthy is the sound here. While the battle rages fiercely outside, this place seems unaffected. If you listen closely, you can only detect the muffled thuds of explosions and the slight tremors of the ship's hull in the distance. These subtle sounds permeate the surroundings, making it impossible to pinpoint their origin.
"Be careful," Elpis cautioned, "this is not entirely the real world right now."
"Yes," Guilliman also sensed the evil aura around him and felt uneasy. "Be vigilant. I can smell the stench of the warp."
Guilliman's veterans also sensed the danger of their surroundings. The Primarch Guard erected their shields, protecting the Primarch and the Imperial Guard inside, while the soldiers of the First and Second Companies stood alternately, forming a defensive formation on the outer perimeter.
"Advance!" Guilliman gave the order. He had just communicated with the boarding squads who were on other missions. Some squads had already been attacked by the enemy and were quickly completing their sabotage missions.
Then, the group escorted Elpis and Guilliman into the depths of the dark corridor.
"They couldn't have missed us," Andros said. "It's a trap."
"It's alright, my brother is testing me." Guilliman processed the communications from his subordinate commander. "Forgrim is always obsessed with creating drama. This gloomy corridor is not for him; he only stays on the most magnificent stage."
"The Hall of Heliopolis," Hill said. "That should be where we're going."
Soon they ascended the steps and arrived at the Phoenix Gate, beyond which lay the Hall of Heliopolis. The warriors before the gate quickly dispersed to either side, and Elpis and Guilliman stepped forward.
"He should be inside," Guilliman said, turning to his offspring. "Wait for me here."
"My lord," Hill said, "we should all rush in and kill him."
"Elpis and I will go in," Guilliman said firmly. "If we rush in, my brother will do the same. Our goal now is to buy time so that while he makes a pointless show, we can cripple the entire warship."
"But he will kill you, sir," Hill said nervously.
Guilliman glared at his son, then fell silent. He was right; he couldn't defeat his brother, and might even be killed.
"It's alright, I will ensure your father's safety," Elpis said confidently. "You two prepare to stand behind the door, and we will call you in to provide backup should anything change."
In truth, Elpis didn't know if he and Guilliman together could defeat the demon-ascended Forgrim. After hundreds of years of "cultivation," the power of the moon god within him had grown increasingly profound, and his body had also grown stronger after being pulled from the Resident Evil world into the Warhammer world.
Now, Elpis, before donning his armor, was already 2.9 meters tall after his time travel from the Resident Evil world, and had grown to 3.1 meters after the world merged. After putting on the modified Imperial Guard armor, his figure was already slightly taller than the Primarch beside him.
After returning from the Resident Evil world, Elpis sparred with Marshal Waldo of the Imperial Guard. At least in the training ground, their strengths were evenly matched, and neither could gain the upper hand.
Now, Elpis's combat strength is no less than that of the Imperial Guard Marshal, and he also possesses the miraculous power of the Moon Goddess. Coupled with Guilliman and the Emperor's Sword in his hand, even if he cannot kill Forgrim, he should be able to escape from him.
Now, his only concern is Guilliman; his primary task is not to kill Forgrim, but to keep Guilliman alive.
Guilliman glanced at Elpis with a complicated expression, then nodded.
"Yes, ma'am," Hill said helplessly.
"Please take care, gentlemen. We are ready to respond at any time," Andros said.
The Ultramarines could only stand outside the Phoenix Gate, adjusting their weapons to optimal condition, ready to respond to any orders and go to their aid.
The Primarch pushed open the metal door, and a foul stench wafted out. Ahead lay darkness, seemingly even denser than the darkness along Triumph Avenue, while in the distance, a beam of light shone down from above, precisely illuminating the center of the stage.
Elpis followed Guilliman inside, and then the door closed.
The Hall of Heliopolis was now a ruin, but its stonework was still visible. Passing through countless fragments of artwork and thick, foul liquid, Elpis and Guilliman ascended the steps to the center of the stage, the only illuminated spot and the stage that Fogrim had meticulously prepared.
"Forgrim! I'm here!" Guilliman shouted, looking around for his brother. "Your brother, Robert Guilliman, is here."
Seeing the continued silence around him, with only his own voice echoing in the hall, Guilliman felt a pang of disappointment. "What? After my brother's fall, how did he become a coward, lacking even the courage to face me?"
Perhaps Guilliman's provocation worked, or perhaps the time had come, the sound of metal scraping came from afar, and the grating sound of scales rubbing against stone slabs reached their ears.
"I heard you, Fulgrim!" Guilliman squinted, straining to make out the figure in the darkness. "Come into the light!"
The rustling sound grew louder, as if many people were wandering around them.
"Number Three!" Elpis's voice pierced the darkness, trying to rouse Fogrem, who was hiding in the shadows. "Come back to the palace with me to accept your punishment."
"Hmph! Boring little fellow." This time, Fugrim responded, his voice melodious yet subtly seductive, "And my brother, there's no need to be in such a hurry."
"Now!" Fugrim's voice became high-pitched and excited.
"The main character has arrived!"
