The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 55 Uprising
Almost at the same time that Kerrigan ended the communication, several signal flares lit up the sky above the capital of Antigia, signaling the full-scale uprising of the Rebel Alliance.
Subsequently, gunshots, explosions, and shouts began to rang out in every corner of the city, gradually converging into a wave of resistance.
Police officers and federal soldiers who were trying to maintain order on the streets were swept away by the wave. They tried to contact their superiors, but all they heard on the communication channels was busy electronic noise.
Faced with the angry resistance, some federal soldiers dropped their weapons and surrendered.
Inside the federal military base, although the alarms had sounded, they sounded chaotic and disorganized. Without unified command and the support of Ghost Agents, the entire base was in disarray.
The junior officers wandered aimlessly, trying to stabilize the situation on the ground.
However, the power system inside the military base had not yet been restored, and the backup generators could only maintain power for critical facilities. They could only desperately shout into the intermittently working communication equipment.
In less than an hour, the heavily guarded military base was reduced to a headless, trapped beast. The rebels had successfully overwhelmed all the city's defenses and were now concentrating their firepower to remove the last thorn in the side of the resistance.
Despite the four siege tanks still roaring on the outer defensive positions, the Goliath mechs constantly roaming the defensive line, and the Federal Marines desperately suppressing the rebellion, it was all just a matter of time.
Having lost their core command structure, they were left with only conflicting instructions from junior officers at all levels via communication channels.
"The commander's orders are to hold the position!"
"Report: Power has not yet been restored to Area B; the automatic turrets cannot be activated!"
"Ammunition! Where's the ammunition?!"
"Enemy forces have breached the eastern defense line! Repeat, enemy forces have breached..."
Before he could finish speaking, a violent explosion interrupted the communication.
This was Reno's masterpiece. He led a small squad of rebel militia, taking advantage of the darkness and chaos, to sneak to the ammunition depot on the eastern outskirts of the base and detonate rows of ammunition boxes.
The towering flames not only destroyed vital supplies but also psychologically shattered the remaining Federation soldiers' defenses.
On the main battlefield, an even more terrifying scene unfolded before the eyes of the Federation soldiers: three black-armored warriors were charging toward the most heavily defended southern line at an astonishing speed.
They were Shadowmoon Wolves, who had just dealt with the Ghosts, and were now returning to the main battlefield to take care of this military base.
The tank's locking system was simply unable to accurately lock onto them, leaving only craters behind them. The spiked rounds from the electromagnetic rifle only managed to leave shallow scratches on their armor.
A Goliath mech appeared on the defensive line. The four-meter-tall mech stood on two legs, and the multi-barreled machine guns on its arms swept the attacking Leon.
Leon ignored the mech's attack and charged straight forward. The machine guns couldn't keep up with Leon's speed and missed their targets.
Leon continued his sprint, instantly arriving at the Goliath mech's legs. He lunged forward and rammed into it, the thick right shoulder armor shattering one of the mech's legs in an instant.
Goliath was severely injured and lost his balance, falling to the side. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Leon drew his combat dagger from his waist, reversed his grip, pointed the blade at his arm, and twisted to the right.
The combat dagger traced a graceful arc through the air, piercing the mech's protective glass with overwhelming force, its tip precisely penetrating the mech pilot's head.
Loken did the same. At that moment, a tank appeared in front of him, and he leaped onto the roof of the tank.
The terrified tank driver frantically pressed the accelerator, trying to throw the terrifying enemy off, but his wish was in vain.
Loken crouched down, smashed the hatch open with his right fist, casually took a high-explosive grenade from his waist with his left hand, pulled out the safety pin, and threw it into the tank compartment.
Then, he jumped off the tank, and three seconds later, an explosion rang out from the tank behind him.
Meanwhile, an ambush also broke out in the near-Earth orbit of Antiga's main star.
The moment the rebellion broke out, General Duke, having received the news, immediately piloted his new flagship, an enhanced Leviathan-class strategic cruiser, leading six escort ships to the orbit of the main star.
However, due to the communication channels being cut off, he could not receive any information from the ground and could only scan through the warship's radar.
"A bunch of useless idiots! They can't even control a border planet!" General Duke roared in fury. "All ships, to attack positions! Wipe that damned rebels off the map!"
"General, there are numerous friendly signals below," a staff officer cautiously reminded him.
"So what? It's their honor to sacrifice for the Federation," General Duke roared. "Main guns charged, missile silos ready."
However, he did not have the opportunity to give the order to fire.
Norard II, the warship that had been hiding on the shadow side of the Antija 2 satellite, pounced on its prey like a cheetah that had been lying in wait for a long time.
It instantly teleported to General Duke's flagship, its main cannon already fully charged, and fired its first shot.
A blinding beam of light streaked across the dark void, striking precisely the engine system of General Duke's flagship. The intense energy overload triggered a series of explosions, causing the entire warship to shudder violently.
"What?! Where did this attack come from?!" General Duke exclaimed in shock and anger.
"Signal identification in progress, it is... Norard 2."
"So it was them!" General Duke slammed his fist on the command platform. "They actually used my flagship to attack me."
Then, the Sons of Korhal's advance fleet also dropped its disguise. The old but well-armed warship, leading several modified escort ships, sailed out from the hidden asteroid belt and headed straight for Alpha Squadron's reinforcement fleet.
Immediately afterwards, the Sons of Khar's fleet, in coordination with Norard II, surrounded the reinforcing Alpha Squadron fleet.
Under the attack of the behemoth-class strategic cruisers, General Duke's fleet was quickly defeated. Four escort ships were destroyed, two others were damaged, and his flagship was nearly destroyed.
At this moment, the Sons of Korhal's fleet ceased its attack, and a communication request was sent to Duke's flagship.
"What exactly are you up to, Mengsk?" General Duke answered the call and saw the face of the instigator, the leader of the rebels.
"The Federation has fallen apart, Duke," Mengsk's authoritative voice boomed. "Rebellions are raging throughout the colonies. And the Zerg are rampaging unchecked, as if they were nothing."
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'll give you two choices. One, you can return to the Federation and wait for defeat." Mengsk paused, then continued, "The other, you can join us. Save all of humanity from the rampaging Zerg and the corrupt Federation. I don't think there's much to consider."
"Join? You?" General Duke was both shocked and furious. "For God's sake, I'm a general!"
"A general without any army. I'm offering you a cabinet position, not some border garrison." Mengsk glanced at General Duke, as if issuing an ultimatum. "Don't test my patience, Edmund Duke."
"Alright, Mengsk," General Duke thought for a moment and replied reluctantly, "I agree."
"You made the right choice, General Duke."
