The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 62 The Chaos of Tarsannis
On the seventh day, the battle above Tarsannis continued, with countless warship wrecks floating in space.
The Sons of Korhal's main fleet has retreated to the outermost edge of the battlefield, and they are only sending small fleets to harass the Federation's defenses.
Two of the Federation's space defense platforms have been severely damaged, leaving only one struggling to hold on. The fleet has also lost half its size, but fortunately, the main Gorgon-class and Behemoth-class strategic cruisers have only suffered minor damage.
The Sons of Korhal suffered the same fate, with even greater losses. The Hyperion was severely damaged and forced to withdraw from the main battlefield.
The difference is that all the rebels in the entire Koprulu Sector are continuously joining the battlefield, which keeps the two sides in a delicate balance.
And this balance is about to be broken.
Seven days ago, as Kerrigan set up the psionic transmitters, the energy on them, like a lighthouse, pierced through layers of obstacles and reached the far corners of the entire sector, luring hundreds of millions of Zerg to the capital, Tarsonis.
The entire Federation is currently kept in the dark, still basking in the glory of having withstood the rebels' attack. The Sons of Korhal's task is to stabilize the situation and continue the standoff with the Federation.
"Warning! Unknown biosignal detected on the outskirts of Tarsonis." In the Federation monitoring room, the monitor's voice shouted in the operations channel.
Immediately afterwards, several enormous insects appeared in space. They were about a kilometer long, with countless tentacles growing from their front and a huge chamber at their rear. These were the Zerg's mobile fortress—Leviathan.
"Attention all units! It's Zerg!" The Federation commander's roar echoed across the entire communication channel.
The next moment, Leviathan spewed out huge pustules, which crashed directly into the Federation's combat defense platform.
Countless pustules pierced through the hail of bullets, crashing onto the metal floor of the platform. From them emerged dozens of springtails and several cockroaches.
At the same time, countless dragons flew out from Leviathan's mouth. They could travel directly in space. Due to the lack of resistance, they were incredibly fast and quickly destroyed the Federation's fleet and defense facilities.
Before the Federation fleet could react, the swarm of insects had already overwhelmed them like a tidal wave. Bio-acid and live ammunition flooded the steel defenses, and the screams of soldiers erupted on the communication channels.
Furthermore, in space, there are also some floating Overlords that act like "balloons," transporting other Zerg and even monitoring the battlefield situation. They also drift towards the interior of planets at extremely high speeds.
The swarm of insects was endless; for every dragon killed, two more would fly in from afar. Even with the extraordinary bravery of the Federation soldiers, they were quickly overwhelmed by the insect tide, and all of Tarsonis's defensive platforms fell.
The same is true of the despair within the planet.
Giant overlords floated above the major cities of Tarsanni, spewing out springtails and cockroaches that landed directly inside the cities, quickly dismantling their defenses.
The Capitol Building, which once symbolized the highest power of the Federation, was devoured by Zerglings, thick black smoke rose from starports everywhere, and civilian ships fleeing from their docks were hit in the engine by Bladebugs launched by Wyverns.
As for the civilians hiding in the underground fortifications, they were either torn apart by sharp teeth or corroded by acid.
Then, the purple fungal carpet quickly covered the entire city, constantly plundering the planet's nutrients, and all the human corpses and fallen Zerg were decomposed and recycled.
In less than a day, the Zerg overwhelmed the Federation's most elite defenses with unimaginable numbers, and subsequently destroyed Tarsonis's main cities and industrial centers.
At the same time, enormous insect nests grew from these ruins, continuously nurturing more insect swarms.
The chaos didn't end there. Tarsannis not only attracted these Zerg, but also another group of creatures: the Protoss who called themselves the firstborn sons of God.
The Protoss forces, tasked with purifying the Zerg, followed suit.
Unlike Zeratul's dark decorations and green gems, these Protoss fleets were exceptionally ornate.
Countless blue crystal blocks floated around the warship, and its bright yellow paint made it look like a museum piece rather than a terrifying machine on the battlefield.
Without communication or announcement, the Protoss fleet resorted directly to force.
Enormous beams of energy shot out from these fleets, directly attacking the Leviathans hovering in orbit. Countless automated fighters were ejected from the fleet's hatches, attacking any Zerg that were still alive.
These Protoss fleets were so powerful that each main cannon shot could severely damage a Leviathan, and every laser attack from their fighters accurately hit a Mutalisk.
However, their numbers were too small, consisting of only three capital ships nearly 1.5 kilometers long and dozens of escort ships.
After dealing with a wave of Zerg attacks, the Protoss fleet arrived in near-Earth orbit around Tarsonis. Surprisingly, this time they did not launch a devastating surface attack, but instead chose to land on the surface and engage the Zerg in battle.
Arcturus Mengsk stared at the holographic battle map, a cold smile playing on his lips.
He turned to the Ghost agent behind him: "Captain Kerrigan, these Protoss are fighting the Zerg, and the Federation's high command is likely to escape. Moreover, based on the Protoss' past actions, they will likely destroy the entire Tarsus."
"Specific mission?" Kerrigan's long red hair was stunningly beautiful under the bridge lights.
"I need you to lead the troops against the Protoss," Mengsk said. "That way we can retake Tarsonis."
"I will go," Kerrigan said, staring intently at Mengsk. "I hope you know what you're doing."
"Don't worry, Captain," Mengsk said, emphasizing each word. "We will win."
On Norard II, Raynor had just received news that Kerrigan was going to the ground to intercept the Protoss. He quickly activated the communications and contacted Kerrigan.
"Why did you do this, Kerrigan?" Raynor asked anxiously. "Listen, I know about your past."
"I mean, I've heard some rumors," Raynor stammered. "I know you were a participant in those Zerg experiments, and Mengsk saved you, but you've already repaid his debt long ago. You don't deserve to do this for him!"
"Jimmy, don't try to be the hero now, even though it suits you quite well," Kerrigan's voice came through the communication device. "But... now is not the time. I'm not going to sit here and wait to die. I know what I'm doing."
"Damn it," Renault couldn't understand why Kerrigan would do this. "I didn't even know you'd be a martyr for someone."
"The Protoss want to destroy the entire planet, not just the Zerg. I know because... well, I just know." Kerrigan knew this mission was extremely difficult, but at this critical juncture, she couldn't disobey Mengsk's orders.
"I'm a ghost, do you remember?" Kerrigan smiled casually, trying to reassure Raynor. "Once we've dealt with the Protoss problem, we can turn our attention to the Zerg."
"I hope you're right, darling. Come back safely."
"It definitely will."
