The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 63 Ghost Operation
The surface of Tarsannis has become a hellish landscape.
Purple fungal carpets spread like living things, devouring the ruins of the entire city. Zerg swarmed every corner of the city, and the glow of Protoss energy weapons intertwined to create a post-apocalyptic scene.
Kerrigan led the Sons of Korhal commando team in transport planes, breaking through the intersecting energy beams and acid bombs over the capital of Tarsonis.
After being attacked several times, the transport plane, billowing black smoke, made a forced landing on the ruins on the edge of the city.
Kerrigan and dozens of Marines in modified armor disembarked from the nearly destroyed transport plane. They traversed the ruins, advancing towards the area where the Protoss and Zerg were engaged in fierce combat.
In the distance, the Protoss ground forces were engaged in fierce combat with the Zerg swarm. Ten Zealots and two mechanical Sentinels served as the vanguard, clearing out the Zerg at the edge of the creep.
Zealots are the Protoss's primary ground units. They wear armor inlaid with blue crystals, exposing only their hands and faces.
They activated the weapons on their wrists, spewing out psionic blades that they swung continuously, their superior combat skills preventing any leaping insects from getting close.
Mechanical sentinels are unmanned combat machines equipped with artificial intelligence. They release force field barriers on the battlefield to temporarily block acid sprays from distant cockroaches.
They protect zealots from ranged damage while also unleashing disintegrating rays that can remove enemy armor.
A fanatic activated his leg armor, gathering power, and in the next instant, he darted out, his rapid movement leaving a trail of afterimages in the air.
Then, the psionic blade pierced the head of a Zergling. He didn't stop; psionic messages flashed through the nerve bundles at the back of his head. He quickly turned around, and the blade killed the Zergling that was preparing to attack him from behind.
Every second, dozens of alien insects die.
Even cockroaches with their thick chitinous shells were no exception; under the continuous attack of the mechanical sentinel's disintegrating ray, they were left with mutilated remains.
"Attack formation, maintain fire. Target the Protoss." Seeing the Protoss about to break through the Zerg, Kerrigan quickly ordered her troops to attack the Protoss.
Kerrigan, wielding a C-10 rifle, fired an armor-piercing round that pierced the core of a mechanical sentinel.
This signaled the start of an immediate firefight. Marines opened fire with their electromagnetic rifles, along with grenades, suppressing the Protoss charge against the Zerg.
However, the Protoss units' unique psionic shields withstood the Marines' firepower.
The fanatics, realizing what had happened, turned and charged at the despicable humans who had ambushed them, their dark blue eyes flashing with an even brighter light, revealing their current rage.
At this point, the Protoss squad was completely surrounded by humans and Zerg, and to make matters worse, another Sentinel was destroyed by Kerrigan.
Without the Sentinels' assistance, the Protoss warriors became moving targets. After several rounds of fierce fighting, the heavily wounded Protoss warriors all disappeared, leaving only the mechanical remains of the Sentinels.
Unfortunately, these Zerg showed no gratitude towards humans. After dealing with the Protoss, they charged directly at Kerrigan and her forces, who were overwhelmed by the swarm.
Kerrigan's eyes narrowed, and a faint blue psionic energy rippled around her as the Ghost Agent's invisibility field instantly activated.
Just like her name "Ghost," Kerrigan vanishes from the battlefield like a ghost, but those poor assault troops can only perish in the belly of the insects.
Kerrigan wanders alone on the chaotic battlefield, where Protoss and Zerg are locked in combat. She faithfully carries out Mengsk's mission, constantly sniping Protoss and preventing them from eradicating the Zerg.
Soon, Kerrigan discovered that the Protoss had established an outpost near the Zerg hive. Countless warp beams appeared inside the base, various defensive structures were warped to the ground by the Protoss, and all sorts of Protoss forces were about to be deployed to the base.
Although this Protoss ground force was not large in scale, it successfully blocked several Zerg attacks by relying on its high-tech equipment and terrain advantages, and even broke out of the base to clear the purple creep node tumors.
"Kerrigan." An encrypted communication reached Kerrigan, who was hiding in the shadows. It was Mengsk's voice. "The Protoss defenses must be eliminated immediately. The Zerg main force is gathering, but they are too inefficient."
"What do we do then?" Kerrigan replied, panting heavily. "I'm all alone now. There are no tanks, no heavy weapons. I can only delay the Protoss attack a little bit by myself."
"No, you do," Mengsk said confidently. "We've deciphered the Federation's tactical nuclear weapon silos. Right here at the base on the outskirts of the capital."
"What do you mean?" Kerrigan asked, as she fired another armor-piercing round that pierced the shield of a Protoss warrior.
"The launch code has been sent to your terminal. You must personally guide the location and ensure the successful destruction of the Protoss outpost."
"Okay, I'll get on it right away."
Kerrigan used her psionic invisibility to cross the fire zone, evading the Protoss detectors, and infiltrated the outer perimeter of the base.
She then used the laser sight on her rifle to target the core building of the Protoss outpost, a massive crystal tower, which was the key to the Protoss's ability to warp in their forces.
Time passed slowly, and a meteor with an orange-red tail rose from the ground, pierced through the clouds, and then crashed hard into the Protoss outpost, illuminating the base with a blinding white light.
The tactical nuclear missile accurately hit its target, and the powerful shockwave and radiation instantly engulfed the entire outpost.
The photon turret melted, and the shield generator overloaded and exploded. Only a few Protoss troops fighting outside were spared from the nuclear blast. The aftershocks of the explosion even wiped out the Zerg within a radius of several hundred meters.
The remaining Protoss warriors, knowing they were no match for the endless Zerg, emanated a white warp light and retreated from the surface of Tarsonis.
"Kerrigan calling. We have successfully repelled the Protoss." Kerrigan called Mengsk as she fled from the Zerg's pursuit.
"My location has been exposed, and a swarm of Zerg is approaching me. The previous transport ship has been damaged. Requesting additional transport ships for immediate evacuation."
Mengsk stood by the porthole of the Hyperion, watching the nuclear explosion on the Tarsonis. He fiddled with his pocket watch as Kerrigan's message requesting evacuation came through the communicator.
"Cancel that order. We're preparing to evacuate." Mengsk didn't respond to Kerrigan's message. He put his pocket watch into his collar pocket and ordered his men, "All fleets, listen to my orders and prepare to evacuate Tarsonis."
Kerrigan's cries for help continued through the communicator: "Hey guys? When can we evacuate?"
"It's all over," Mengsk commanded firmly. "Navigator, notify the fleet to send us out of Tarsonis. Now!"
"What the hell are you doing?" Kerrigan's voice never reached the ship again.
"Mengsk? Mengsk!"
