The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 86 Core Melting
The team quickly devised a comprehensive battle plan.
Based on the intelligence provided by Vulcan and the scans from the warship, it is clear that the core of the orcs is located in that orc complex.
Based on the energy readings on the oracle, it was clear that the energy core was located at the base of the central tower of the fortress base.
"Split into two groups," Vulcan planned two attack routes on the hologram. "All soldiers will provide aerial fire support from the air aboard Thunderhawks. Their mission is to destroy enemy heavy firepower points and, if necessary, deploy personnel."
Then, he looked at Elpis beside him and said, "Elpis and I will break through from the front and head straight for the tower."
Elpis nodded, accepting the offer. Most of the orcs' attacks posed little threat to him and the Primarch. He put his helmet back on, and the Spear of Luna gleamed with a cold silver light in his hand.
After a short rest, both teams launched their attacks simultaneously.
Nearly ten Thunderhawk gunships flew low over the city, raining missiles and explosives down on the outer walls of the orc fortress. The orcs were caught off guard, and the heavy firing points on the walls were quickly destroyed in the first wave of attacks.
Amid the explosions, the orcs reacted quickly, roaring as they unleashed a hail of crudely made ammunition into the sky with their tattered "big guns" that they had somehow found.
While the orcs were distracted by the Thunderhawks' firepower, Vulcan and Elpis broke through the city walls and entered the fortress.
They advanced rapidly along the makeshift passage made of scrap metal, encountering several reinforcements of orcs along the way. Before these greenskins could even draw their weapons, they were reduced to fragments by the hammering of Doomsday Tremor and the slashing of Moon Spear.
Vulcan and Elpis, like two sharp knives, plunged straight into the center of the orcish defenses, steadily approaching the tower.
The Lord of Fire Dragons charged ahead, smashing any orc who dared to block his path to pieces. He held no more energy; each swing of his warhammer was accompanied by a visible shockwave, shattering orcs along with their cover.
The orc's strange rifle aimed precisely at Vulcan, but he neither dodged nor avoided it, letting the bullets and grenades strike his dark skin, leaving a faint mark. He continued forward amidst the smoke and fire, smashing the archer and his weapon into the ground with a single blow.
Elpis followed behind, transforming into a deadly golden lightning bolt, constantly shifting his position, making it difficult for any of the orcs' attacks to hit him.
Each thrust of the spear pierced the orc's skull with pinpoint accuracy, and each swing claimed the lives of a row of orcs.
During the charge, Elpis leaped forward, using his spear as a fulcrum to jump over a group of orcs. As he landed, his spear swept across, and where the silver light flashed, the Greenskins' death zone was revealed.
The two overwhelming forces merged, and the orcs' defenses began to crumble. Though the greenskins were fearless, their numerical advantage gradually vanished in the face of overwhelming power and skill.
About ten minutes later, the two teams met at the designated coordinates. The orc core tower was in sight. It was a building built in the crater, stretching down for hundreds of meters, with the energy core at the bottom of the volcano.
"Vulgan and I will destroy the energy core," Elpis said in the communication, glancing at the orcs surging toward the central tower. "Kurand, you take the Thunderhawk back to the flagship now. I have my own way of getting back."
"Understood, sir." Kurland gave the order to return. "You and Lord Vulcan must be careful."
Seeing that the others had already evacuated, Vulcan nodded to Elpis. The Primarch trusted Elpis and believed that he had a way to return to the warship.
Elpis slightly bent his knees and leaped directly to the outside of the tower, then began sprinting down the almost vertical structure. His powerful core strength, combined with the extraordinary grip granted by his power armor, allowed him to descend at breakneck speed as if walking on flat ground.
The Primarch chose a more direct approach. He took a deep breath and leaped into the crater. Just before reaching the bottom of the tower, he slammed his warhammer into the volcanic rock wall, forcibly slowing him down, before crashing it into the ground.
The orc lads at the bottom of the tower were clearly not expected to be able to break through like this. They shouted in panic and manipulated several cannons to turn their muzzles, preparing to attack.
But Elpis was faster. He sprinted along the outside of the tower, gathered his strength in his legs, and leaped out. His spear sliced through the air, and with a few consecutive thrusts, he took down the orc running towards the turret.
The dust from Vulcan's fall obscured his vision. He hurled his warhammer, smashing through an orc-controlled turret and sending both the orc and the machine crashing into the wall.
The Primarch picked up the warhammer and, without stopping, charged into the tower with Elpis.
After a series of demolition operations, they arrived at a large hall, a vast space with openwork iron grilles beneath their feet, revealing a cavern thousands of meters deep underground.
In the center of the room was a green energy sphere, which was the key to the orcs' ability to extract underground resources into orbit.
"Waaagh!"
The orc leader guarding this place roared. It was only six meters tall, smaller than the orc leader they had encountered on the battle moon. It charged forward, its power claws aimed directly at Vulcan.
Instead of dodging, Vulcan charged forward, and the Doomsday Tremor and the Power Claw collided violently.
"clang……"
A screeching sound of metal twisting rang out, and the orc leader was knocked back several steps, with obvious cracks appearing on his power claws.
The Primarch did not stop; his warhammer, accompanied by a piercing shriek that tore through the air, slammed down on the Orc leader once more. The Greenskin roared and parried with his power claws, but the claws shattered upon contact.
Another fierce hammer blow struck, the hammerhead slamming into its chest without any resistance. The sturdy armor caved in and cracked, and the orc leader's massive body flew backward, crashing into the wall and remaining motionless.
Finally, Vulcan arrived at the core. He raised the Doomsday Tremor high, and a special energy fluctuation was generated on the hammerhead, continuously accumulating power in circles.
The apocalyptic tremor, carrying immense force, slammed into the core. Instantly, a violent energy shockwave spread outwards from the sphere of light, directly cracking the ground and twisting the metal tower.
The next moment, the earth shook violently, countless rocks fell to the ground, and the enormous force caused the surrounding earth to tremble and crack open in several places. The entire volcano and the surrounding area were about to collapse.
Fortunately, Elpis had informed Kurland to evacuate with his squad members beforehand, and judging by the time, they should be returning to the flagship soon.
Vulcan was also thrown into the air by the force of the explosion, but Elpis grabbed his arm in mid-air, and the two of them used the momentum to leap backward for dozens of meters. Elpis then grabbed the Primarch and retreated.
Elpis looked at the Primarch, who was in very bad shape. The violent shockwave had shattered most of the flesh on the Primarch's front, revealing the bare bones inside.
However, the original body's recovery speed was astonishing, and wisps of flesh had already grown on the surface of the bones.
Elpis felt relieved, as the Moon Spear in his hand was fully charged. He immediately activated the teleportation function, and a silvery-white light enveloped the two of them.
The next moment, the metal floor of the medical pod inside the Unison appeared beneath their feet.
