Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 147 The Thief Arrives
Late at night.
Only the wall lamps were still lit in the church corridor, their flames flickering in the wind, casting the icons on the walls on and off.
Wayne lay on the bed and turned over.
Rustling.
He opened his eyes.
It's not a rat.
Mice can't climb walls.
Wayne lay still.
He'd repaired the church roof before and knew how fragile those tiles were. Forget about stepping on them; a strong wind could easily flip several tiles off. Anyone who could manage that kind of rhythm on them was either doing it on purpose or was genuinely incompetent.
The panel popped up.
[Rooftop Intruder Briefing]
[Identity: Babaka Bounty Squad. Rank B, from the Northern Continent. Client: Marquis Lynch, your adoptive father. Mission Objective: Bring you back to the capital "unharmed". Fee: Two thousand dimensional gold shields, half prepaid.]
[Babaka: A fourth-tier warrior who calls himself "the number one iron fist of the Northern Continent." His three ex-wives' common assessment is: "His fists are hard, but everything else is soft." Medication is useless against him.]
[Mimi: A Tier 3 Assassin, taciturn. She has a habit she's maintained for years: she avoids wearing close-fitting clothing whenever possible. Not for convenience, but because she finds it restrictive. She feels she was born to be free, to let the wind blow in and out as it pleases. She hopes a handsome man will discover her secret.]
[Jenny: A Tier 3 Thief with incredibly fast hands. Legend has it that he can untie any woman's bra straps in three breaths. However, this skill has zero practical application rate, because he always runs away after untying the straps and has never dared to look back.]
[Note: This squad's actual skill level is roughly equivalent to a third-rate mercenary group; the agent exaggerated their abilities to the point of being legendary in the Northern Continent. Your father has been deceived. Your marquis father has been deceived; two thousand gold coins could hire three genuine A-rank squads.]
After looking at the panel, Wayne remained silent for a couple of moments.
Two thousand dimensions of golden shield.
His adoptive father was truly a genius.
Babaka.
The number one iron fist of the Northern Continent.
His three wives all ran off with other men.
The first half of this title sounds impressive, but the second half directly exposes the essence of a loser in life.
The commotion on the roof continued.
Soft rustling sounds.
Like three mice grinding their teeth.
A mouse stepped on and broke a tile.
"Click."
The sound wasn't loud, but it was exceptionally clear in the quiet night.
"Shh~"
"You stepped on a tile."
"I didn't step on it, it broke on its own."
"How could the tiles break by themselves?"
"It has fallen into disrepair and weathered naturally. This is a problem with the church's construction quality, not my fault."
"Can you two shut up? We're here to arrest someone, not to complain."
Is there a conflict between arresting people and criticizing them?
"have."
"What conflict?"
"Shut up."
Wayne smiled.
Stupid thief!
The back door of the church was open.
Wayne stood in the doorway, holding a lamp in his hand.
He was wearing a white undershirt and a gray coat, and he looked like he had just come out of the prayer room.
"Gentlemen, it's windy on the roof. Would you like to come down for a cup of tea?"
There was a moment of silence on the rooftop.
Babaka's voice came from behind the tiles, low and hushed: "How did he know there were three of us?"
Mimi didn't say anything.
Jenny didn't say anything either.
Babaka then asked, "Which of you has been exposed?"
Mimi's voice came from the other side: "I didn't."
Jenny added, "Neither do I."
"Is that me?"
"have no idea."
"I don't know either."
Babaka peeked half his head out from behind the roof and looked down. Wayne stood in the doorway, the oil lamp held high above his head, casting a long shadow.
"You are now surrounded."
Babaka's lips twitched.
"Just one person, surrounding the three of us?"
That's enough.
Babacar pulled his head back and whispered to his teammates, "He doesn't seem too afraid of us."
Mimi's voice was still cold: "Our mission is to bring him back unharmed. Not to kill him."
"I know. But his attitude really annoyed me."
"You have to put up with it, even if you're unhappy," Jenny interjected. "Two thousand golden shields, half paid in advance. If you mess up the mission, you have to return the other half."
Babaka remained silent for two breaths.
"Get out of here."
"Go down?"
"Get out of here and arrest them."
The three of them jumped off the roof.
Babacar landed in front, his feet slamming into the ground with a thud. Mimi followed silently behind. Jenny brought up the rear, his knees buckling as he landed to absorb most of the impact.
The three stood in a row, facing Wayne.
Babaka is nearly two meters tall, with broad shoulders and a thick waist. He wears a leather armor, with his two arms exposed, showing bulging muscles and veins.
He took a step forward.
"You're Wayne?"
Wayne nodded.
Babaka looked him up and down, from his face to his feet, and from his feet to his face.
"She is indeed good-looking."
Wayne didn't respond.
Babaka added, "But don't worry, we're not here to kill you. We're here to take you home."
"go home?"
"Yes." Babaka patted his chest.
"Your father misses you very much."
Wayne remained silent for two breaths.
"A two-thousand-dimensional golden shield?"
Babaka's expression changed for a moment, but quickly returned to normal.
"You found out?"
"The goddess told me."
Babaka opened his mouth, then closed it again.
He didn't believe in the goddess, and he didn't know what to say.
"Your father really misses you." Babacar's tone softened slightly. "He asked us to tell you that as long as you go back, everything will be forgiven. He will still offer you to the Pope, but he will give you the right to choose, and then you can choose someone you like."
"Go back and tell Lynch," Wayne said, his smile fading. "I'm doing very well in Frosttown and don't want to go back for the time being."
Babaka's expression froze for a moment.
"It seems there's no room for negotiation? Well then, young master, we'll have no choice but to offend you..."
His hands clenched into fists, and the aura of a fourth-tier warrior surged from within him, causing fine cracks to appear on the stone pavement beneath his feet. Mimi's figure faded in the moonlight, like a blob of ink about to dissipate, melting into the night.
The three of them moved at the same time.
Babaka charged forward, his fist, imbued with battle aura, aimed at Wayne's chest. Mimi flanked from the side, her figure appearing and disappearing in the moonlight like a snake slithering in the shadows. Jenny circled behind, blocking their escape route.
Cooperate tacitly.
It looks like we've rehearsed it many times.
Wayne did not back down.
A fourth-tier fist came hurtling towards him, but he neither dodged nor evaded, instead meeting it head-on with his own fist. The two fists collided in mid-air, producing a muffled thud, like an iron hammer striking frozen ground.
Babaka's expression changed from fierce to confused.
A sharp pain shot through his fist, as if his knuckles were about to shatter. He took two steps back, looking down at his swollen fist, his eyes filled with disbelief.
"You're also at level four?"
Wayne did not answer.
His right hand had already gripped Mimi's neck. The assassin, who had attacked from the side, was like someone who had run into a metal plate, frozen in mid-air, unable to move his hands and feet.
On the other side, Jenny, who had circled around, was kicked away.
Mimi was about to be strangled to death.
Babaka hurriedly raised his hand to admit defeat.
"We surrender."
Twenty minutes later.
The three people were tied to tree stumps in the church's backyard.
