Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 182 The Seed of the Sword Saint
Amu led the way.
"Your Excellency, this way. This way. My sister is lying in bed at home and can't get up. Please come with me, I'll take you there."
Old Ruth followed behind, leaning on his cane, his steps much faster than usual, the cane thumping against the muddy ground.
"Your Excellency, that child has such a hard life. His father is gone, his mother is gone, and he has contracted a strange illness that keeps him bedridden. Every day after work, Amu has to take care of his younger sister, and he's as thin as a monkey. It breaks my heart to see him like this, but there's nothing I can do. This old man of mine can only offer so much help."
Wayne didn't say anything and followed behind Amu.
The village is small; it took less than five minutes to walk from the village entrance to Amu's house.
The house was the most dilapidated one at the east end of the village.
The walls were made of rubble and mud, with several cracks, the largest of which allowed a view into the house from the outside. The roof was covered with dry thatch, which had turned black and had collapsed in some places, exposing the wooden beams underneath.
The door was made of wooden planks, hanging crookedly on the door frame. It couldn't be closed properly, and it creaked loudly when the wind blew.
Amu pushed open the door, ran inside, and tidied up the mess: "Your Excellency, please come in. The room is a bit messy, please don't mind."
Wayne bent down and went inside.
In the corner was a wooden bed, and on it lay a little girl who looked about seven or eight years old, so thin she was skin and bones.
The panel popped up.
【Aya Mosa Village】
[Identity: Amu's younger sister.]
Age: Nine years old (looks like six or seven).
[Current Status: Malnourished, severely weak, and afflicted with a curse. The curse originates from the witch Marshall, who, several months ago, used Aya as a test subject in Mosa Village to test the effects of a new type of curse. The curse does not kill immediately, but slowly erodes life force. At the current rate of erosion, Aya has approximately six months to live.]
[Note: Martha chose Aya for a simple reason: Aya is somewhat like her previous daughter. Moreover, Aya is an orphan with only an older brother. Even if her brother notices something is wrong with his sister, there's nothing he can do. She enjoys seeing others suffer.]
[Note 2: Aya possesses exceptionally high swordsmanship talent. Not just "talented" in the ordinary sense, but a once-in-a-century swordsmanship genius. If she survives to adulthood, there's a high probability she'll grow into a future sword saint. However, this talent is suppressed by both the curse and hunger, leaving her no room to display it.]
[Note 3: At this moment, in her eyes, you are like a messenger sent by a goddess to save her. The holy light emanating from you warms her. She hasn't felt this warmth for a very, very long time. Since her mother's death, no one has been kind to her. She will never forget having such a beautiful dream.]
Her lips moved slightly.
"elder brother……"
The sound was so faint it was like a mosquito's buzz.
Amu squatted down and lay on the edge of the bed.
"Aya, don't be afraid. The bishop has come to see you. It's...it's him. He's the bishop I told you about, the one from town."
Aya's gaze returned to Wayne.
Her lips moved again.
"Bishop...sir..."
Wayne squatted down.
He placed his hand on Aya's hand.
"Don't be afraid, child. The goddess will not abandon you."
Water element seeped from Wayne's fingertips, seeping into Aya's skin. Aya's body trembled slightly. The water element flowed within her, spreading along her meridians to her limbs and bones, washing away every corner corrupted by the curse.
The curse gradually faded under the wash of the water element.
Three minutes later.
Wayne withdrew his hand.
The dark lines under Aya's skin had completely disappeared, and although her complexion was still pale, it was much better than before.
Wayne didn't give her the nutrient-boosting potion.
The body is too weak to tolerate tonics.
Giving her those things now would be too much for her body to absorb, and would only increase the burden on her.
"Your sister's illness is almost cured now. The next thing to pay attention to is to supplement her nutrition."
Amu's tears fell.
"Your Excellency... thank you... thank you..."
Wayne squatted back down and reached out to ruffle Aya's hair.
"You're welcome. Once you're better, do whatever you want."
Aya blinked.
"I want...I want to be like my brother...to earn money and support the family..."
Wayne smiled.
"Then focus on getting better first."
He took the money pouch off his waist, counted out ten gold coins, and placed them next to Aya's pillow.
The gold coins gleamed in the dim room.
Aya's eyes widened.
"Your Excellency, this...this is too much..."
"Not much." Wayne stood up. "Ten gold coins, enough for you to buy your sister meat and eggs for three years."
Amu's tears fell again.
He wiped his eyes. He wiped them again. He couldn't wipe them clean. So he stopped wiping and let the tears stream down his face. He squatted by his sister's bedside, his shoulders shaking, crying like a child.
Old Ruth stood in the doorway, his hands gripping the ends of his cane.
He didn't speak.
Eyes are red.
He has lived for so many years and has seen many people.
But he had never seen anyone like Wayne.
Old Ruth wiped his face with his right hand.
"Your Majesty Bishop."
"Um."
"You are a benefactor to our Mosa Village. If you need anything in the future, just let me know. Although this old body of mine is no longer useful, the young men in the village are strong and healthy. Just say the word, and they will not hesitate."
Wayne patted him on the shoulder.
"Just live a good life."
Before leaving, Wayne turned his head to look at Amu.
"Take good care of your sister."
Amu squatted by the bed and nodded vigorously.
"I definitely will."
Old Rut followed behind, leaning on his cane, all the way to the village entrance.
"Your Excellency, please stay for a meal before you leave." His voice was pleading. "There's nothing good in the village, just a chicken. You've helped us so much, and you haven't even had a sip of hot water..."
Wayne stopped and turned around.
"Old village chief, I have something to do at the church, let's do it another day."
Old Rut opened his mouth, wanting to persuade him again, but seeing Wayne's expression, he swallowed his words. He stood beside the stone tablet at the village entrance, his cane on the ground, watching Wayne and his group of four walk away until they reached the end of the field ridge, turned into the dirt road between the hills, and disappeared from sight, before slowly turning around.
The panel appeared before Wayne's eyes.
[Today's Frosttown Midday News Brief]
The missionary group from St. Hilde arrived in Frosttown at noon. The group consisted of eleven people, led by Andre Claire, a Cardinal candidate and a fourth-rank Holy Lightbringer; the rest were clerical staff and servants.
[Note: Wilford hasn't slept a wink since receiving the letter from the Church of St. Hilde last night. For a remote town like Frosttown, the Crusaders of St. Hilde are a force to be reckoned with. After all, they might actually reply.]
[Note 2: Andre's official reason for coming to Frosttown is "missionary work." His true purposes are twofold: first, to capture or eliminate the witch organization surrounding Frosttown; second, to take the opportunity to humiliate the Church of Wiggins Kingdom and demonstrate the authority of the Holy See of Saint Hilde. As the Bishop of Frosttown, you are the ant he must step on.]
[P.S. This morning, Lilith left with Lance and Shurasa's human trafficker gang; they voluntarily followed Lilith. Hena stayed at the church to wait for you, unaware that the group of St. Hilde's men she had previously tricked had already arrived in town.]
