Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 241 Learning Tier 2 Potions
On the other side, Wayne looked at the information about Dalton on the panel. Dalton envied Lynch as his father, and Wayne almost burst out laughing.
What else can his cheapskate father do besides father sons?
They will give him to the Pope as a gift.
After being "invited" into the Vatican by the Pope, they will turn the tables and become the dominant force.
It will give him a bunch of younger brothers and sisters.
With a father like that, would Dalton even be envious?
Wayne sat at the stone table in the backyard, eating the grapes Vera had brought him, his gaze fixed on the last line of text on the panel.
"A father like Lynch is probably only something a blessed person like Dalton can enjoy."
During his time in Frost Town, he had amassed some wealth through donations to the church, sales of magic potions, and a share of spoils from bandit raids. All these small amounts added up to a modest sum.
He glanced back at Emma.
Emma was squatting by the flowerbed, holding a small shovel, digging at something. Aya squatted beside her, holding a small ceramic jar filled with soil she had just dug from the flowerbed.
"Master!" Emma looked up. "This flower is dying. I want to dig it up and replant it."
Wayne glanced at it.
That flower was indeed dying; half of its leaves had turned yellow, and the flower buds had withered before they even opened.
"Let's plant it in the backyard. The backyard gets lots of sunshine."
"good!"
Emma stuck the small shovel into the ground, hugged the flowerpot with both hands, and tried to lift it, but it wouldn't budge. She tried again, but still nothing. Aya put down the terracotta pot and helped her lift it. With the two of them and four hands, they finally managed to lift the flowerpot off the ground and move it wobbly towards the backyard.
Ella sat opposite Wayne, holding an unsealed potion bottle and adding ingredients into it.
"Master, we're leaving the day after tomorrow."
"Um."
"Have we packed everything?"
Wayne leaned back in his chair and thought for a moment.
"There's not much to tidy up."
When he arrived in Frostbite, his luggage didn't even fill a single suitcase. In the few months since, he's accumulated quite a bit of stuff: potion bottles, herbs, scriptures, and trinkets given to him by believers, filling almost half a cabinet. There aren't many things he truly can't afford to lose.
Memorize the potion recipes, put the herbs and potion bottles into the storage bag, stuff the scriptures into the box, pick out a few meaningful items from the gifts given by the believers and keep the rest.
Watching her practiced movements, Wayne asked, "How's the production of the first-tier stamina-restoring potions coming along?"
Ella's fingers paused for a moment, then she looked up, a slight smile playing on her lips, a hint of smugness she herself didn't realize: "It's getting much smoother. The success rate is much higher than last month; ten sets of materials yield seven or eight finished products. I've tried those little tricks Dora taught me before she left, and they really work. Especially the temperature control part—using ice magic to help cool things down is much more stable than just relying on technique."
Wayne nodded: "Not bad. For a first-tier potion to achieve this level is already quite excellent."
Ella's ears slowly turned red.
"Owner."
"Um."
"I...I want to learn how to make second-tier potions."
Wayne's gaze fell on her face.
"Second-order?"
"Hmm." Ella looked up, met his gaze, and then quickly looked away. "I know that Tier 2 is much more difficult than Tier 1, the recipes are more complex, and the control over magic power is much higher. But I will try my best. I won't let Master down."
Her face turned even redder as she said this.
"Master, could you teach me some more in the potion room?"
Her voice grew softer and softer.
"I know that potion-making training shouldn't be disturbed." She paused, as if to bolster her courage, "I'll have my sister practice swordsmanship with Aya."
Wayne looked at her.
"Anything else?"
Ella lowered her head.
"And... Vera is going out shopping today too."
The panel then appeared.
[Ella - Current Status]
[The real purpose: learning how to concoct second-tier potions was just an excuse, accounting for about 10%. The remaining 90% was missing her goddess. This isn't a metaphor, not a figure of speech; it's a literal longing. Her body's memory is more honest than her brain's; she's been enduring it for days.]
[Note: In fact, she had already memorized the recipe for the second-tier potion that restores mana two days ago. The preparation process, ingredient ratios, temperature control points, and the timing and intensity of mana infusion were all thoroughly understood. She had even simulated it in her mind several times, each time with incredible success. But she dared not prepare it alone, not because she was afraid of failure, but because she was afraid that if she succeeded, she would have no excuse.]
[Note 2: She missed not only the goddess, but also the way the goddess bestowed her grace. Vera really was going shopping today; she didn't make it up. She overheard it while helping in the kitchen. Ella hadn't made any plans; she was just waiting for an opportunity.]
"No problem." Wayne looked at Ella. "After they all leave, we'll go learn how to make second-tier potions."
Ella's eyes lit up.
"Really? Master?"
"real."
Ella clasped her hands together happily.
"Master is the best."
Wayne reached out and patted her on the back.
"Alright, alright, go get ready first. We'll go to the potion room after they leave."
Ella released her grip, straightened up, and her ear tips were red.
"Um!"
She turned around, walked to the flowerbed, squatted down, and focused her attention on the dying flower.
Not long after, footsteps could be heard in the courtyard.
Marco walked down the corridor, his right hand resting on the scabbard, his steps unhurried. Aya followed behind him, carrying a wooden sword, the blade longer than her arm.
"Aya, off to practice your sword." Marco's voice came from the front yard.
"Okay, Master."
Aya put down the ceramic pot she was holding by the flower bed and followed.
Emma ran over from the backyard, her hands still covered in mud.
"Aya, wait for me! I'm coming too!"
The two children followed Marco.
The courtyard quieted down.
Vera walked over from the direction of the kitchen, her hair pulled back with a wooden hairpin, revealing her clean neck.
"Sir, I'm going out for a stroll. Some shops in town are having a clearance sale; I'll see if there's anything cheap. I'll be back later."
Wayne nodded.
"Be careful on the road."
"OK."
Four hours passed quickly.
The door to the potions room was pushed open from the inside.
Wayne came out first, a few drops of medicine still wet on the hem of his priest's robe.
Ella walked out from behind, her face flushed.
She tied her hair back up, making her look more neat and tidy. As she grows older, she won't repeat the mistakes she's made before.
The panel then appeared.
[Ella's Potions Study Report - Supplement]
[Learning Duration: Four hours in total. First half hour: Thanksgiving to the Goddess. Middle two hours: Tutorial and practice on second-tier potion brewing. Last one and a half hours: The Goddess descends again.]
[Thanksgiving Goddess Effect: Significant. Out of five attempts to concoct a Tier 2 "Vitality Restoration" potion, four were successful, a success rate of 80%. This far exceeds the normal level of a potion apprentice. A normal apprentice's success rate for their first attempt at concocting a Tier 2 potion is less than 30%.]
[Note: She said, "Learning potions shouldn't be disturbed," which is not wrong in itself. But she didn't say the second half—"Learning potions doesn't need to be disturbed, but it does need to be embraced by the goddess."]
[Note 2: She is now the first person in the church who can maintain a connection with the goddess while brewing potions. This is not within the scope of potion-making, but theology. There is no record of such a case in the Wiggins Church's canon. If there were, it would probably be classified as heresy in St. Hilde's Church.]
[Additionally: She discovered a pattern. The deeper her connection with the goddess, the better she felt when brewing potions. She kept this discovery to herself, telling no one.]
