Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong

Chapter 247 The Death of the Demon

The demon took a step back.

Holy light.

That was holy light.

He forgot the most important thing.

The man in front of me was a priest.

The demon's expression changed completely.

He wasn't unfamiliar with clergy.

He had killed members of the Papacy and fought against paladins. But the holy light they emanated only made him feel uncomfortable.

The holy light emanating from the person before me.

It made him feel death.

The demon did not hesitate.

He turned and ran.

He pushed off the ground with both legs, creating two shallow craters, and his body shot out like an arrow. He dared not look back, dared not stop, and put all his strength into escaping.

A gasp went up from the crowd.

Why did that fierce demon suddenly run away?

Wayne didn't move.

He watched the demon's fleeing figure and muttered something under his breath.

"It's too late."

Raise your right hand.

The cross was held high above the shoulder, like a javelin in the hand. Holy light traveled along the lines of the cross, converging at the top and condensing into a fist-sized sphere of light.

Wayne arched his back slightly.

then.

Throw it with all your might.

The moment the cross left his hand, a sharp sonic boom exploded in the air. The holy light left a white trail as it flew, like a shooting star streaking across the night sky.

The demon heard a whooshing sound behind him.

He wanted to hide.

My body tilted slightly to the left.

But the cross was moving too fast.

It was so fast that he didn't even have time to make a complete dodge maneuver.

boom!

The cross struck the devil squarely on the back of the head.

A muffled thud.

The demon's head jerked forward, its body staggering two steps before coming to a stop.

He stood there, his body swaying slightly.

then.

It fell straight down.

It landed face down on the ground, raising a small cloud of dust.

A large crater was dented into the back of his head, and dark red blood and white brain matter gushed out from the crater, spreading across the ground.

The demon's limbs twitched a few times.

It stopped moving.

It's quiet now.

The entire room fell silent.

The crowd, hiding in the distance, stared blankly at the corpse lying on the ground, and no one uttered a sound for a long time. A gust of wind blew by, stirring up fallen leaves that swirled past the body.

I don't know who swallowed first.

"Dead...dead?"

"It seems so..."

"He's dead already? Wasn't he just a three-meter-tall giant?"

"Who cares how tall it is? Once it's dead, it's dead."

Wilford stood at a distance, his riding crop hanging limply in his hand. He opened his mouth, as if to say something, but something seemed to be blocking his throat, and he couldn't utter a single word.

His guards were even more dumbfounded.

"Sir...that priest...killed the demon?"

"I saw it."

"With a cross?"

"I have eyes."

"Isn't the cross for prayer?"

Wilford turned his head and looked at the guard expressionlessly.

"You can go ask him now and see if he'd be willing to give you a cross too."

The guard immediately shut up.

Marco stood behind Wayne, his severed sleeve swaying in the wind. He looked at the corpse in the distance, then at Wayne's back.

The adult's strength...

It was stronger than he had imagined.

The fourth-tier peak demon didn't even have a chance to escape in the blink of an eye.

Wayne stepped forward, bent down, and pulled the cross from the demon's head. The cross was stained with blood and brain matter, and the holy light had not completely faded. The blood sizzled under the burning light, and wisps of white smoke rose from it.

He hoisted the cross onto his shoulder, turned around, and walked back towards the group.

He took two steps and then stopped.

"Oh, right."

He turned his head and glanced at the corpse on the ground.

"Find a few people to burn the body."

Wilford nodded quickly:

"Yes, yes, I'll arrange for someone to do it right away..."

"Don't bury it."

Wayne added.

"Burn it clean, scatter the ashes."

Leaving the demon's corpse will only bring more trouble. Burning it to ashes will leave nothing behind, making it the cleanest solution.

Wilford quickly turned around to arrange manpower.

The children in the procession pressed their eyes against the carriage window, watching him with bright, sparkling eyes.

"Mom, the bishop is so amazing!"

"Don't talk nonsense..."

"Really! He just smashed that giant monster to death! With a cross! Like throwing a javelin! Whoosh, bang!"

The child excitedly mimicked the famous gesture, and the parents nearby quickly pulled the child back into the carriage.

On the carriage, Emma leaned out the window, peeked out for a long time, and when she pulled back, her face was still flushed.

Seeing Wayne approaching, she said excitedly:

"Master, are we safe?"

Wayne got into the car and stretched his right shoulder.

"Safe for now."

He paused.

"Normally, a demonic tide won't travel too far. Once the vanguard is cleared out, the main force will reassess the threat level ahead if they don't receive feedback from the scouts. At least for a day, there won't be a second wave chasing after them."

Emma peeked out the window and blinked.

"Master, shall we return to Audrien as our first stop?"

Wayne nodded.

"Um."

He reached under his seat and pulled out a map, spreading it out on his lap. Several red circles were marked on the map with charcoal, with Frosttown at the northernmost point. A red line stretched south, passing through several villages and towns, ending at Adrian's mark.

"At the current pace, barring any unforeseen circumstances, we should reach Adrian in four days."

"Four days..."

Emma counted on her fingers, then her eyes lit up: "When we get to Audreyen, can we have a nice meal?"

Wayne glanced at her.

"Didn't you eat enough?"

"I'm full, but..."

"Um?"

Emma shrank back and muttered something under her breath:

"But the dry rations on the carriage don't taste good..."

Ella gently patted her sister's hand.

"Stop fooling around, Master just finished fighting, let him rest for a while."

Emma stuck out her tongue and stopped talking.

Wayne didn't reply, his gaze lingering on the Aldrian mark on the map for a few seconds.

Audrey.

That's the place he volunteered to go to back then.

He was transferred from there to Frost Town, going in a big circle, and now he's going back. But this time, going back will be completely different from when he left.

The carriage traveled for a while.

Vera broke the silence in the car.

She sat in the corner of the carriage, holding a half-eaten piece of dry bread in her hand. After hesitating for a moment, she finally spoke.

"grown ups."

Wayne lifted his eyelids.

"Um?"

"What kind of place is Audrien?"

Vera's voice carried a hint of caution.

She had never been to Audrian.

The biggest place she had ever been was Frost Town. Actually, Frost Town itself wasn't very big; a few streets, a mountain, a square, and a church—it wouldn't take an hour to walk around it.

In her mind, that was already a lot.

Audrian? She had only heard the name in other people's casual conversations and knew it was a city, but she couldn't imagine what it was like.
