Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 303 The Zhang Family
The caravan entered the capital after nightfall.
Wayne did not let the carriage linger in the city. Instead, he drove directly along the main street through half of the city and headed east.
The Marquis of Lynch’s mansion was nestled in a hillside east of the city.
The mansion wasn't very large, but its location was carefully chosen, situated at the highest point of the valley. Opening the window of the master bedroom on the second floor, one could see the palace's spire faintly lit in the night.
The carriage came to a stop in front of the mansion.
Dirk was the first to jump out of the car and quickly stepped forward to report.
Emma, Ella, Aya, and Vera got out of the car one by one and stood on the stone slabs in front of the Marquis's mansion, their movements noticeably more restrained than usual.
Emma instinctively moved closer to Wayne, her gaze sweeping over the mansion in front of her, which was several times larger than the Frosttown Church, without saying a word.
It turns out my owner lives in such a big house.
The second carriage did not stop in front of the main gate. Instead, it was guided by pre-arranged attendants and drove directly from the side driveway towards the side building.
The three figures, cloaked in the darkness, got out of the car silently and were led into a side building without attracting anyone's attention.
Wayne's gaze fell on that familiar doorway.
It's been a few years.
When he left the capital, he was a clueless young man. Now, standing before this door again, his state of mind is completely different.
The door opened from the inside.
A middle-aged man dressed in a deep purple robe strode out, followed by several attendants. He was well-maintained, and his face bore a resemblance to Wayne's. His eyes and brows exuded an undisguised smugness and high spirits; his only flaw was that he was a bit overweight.
Marquis Lynch Angus.
The moment he saw Wayne standing on the porch, his eyes lit up, and he quickened his pace. He opened his arms, as if to hug Wayne.
"Wayne! My pride! You're back!"
Wayne stood still, raised his right hand, palm facing outward. Water elements condensed in front of him, forming an invisible barrier that pressed precisely against Lynch's chest.
Lin Qi lunged forward but missed, paused for a moment, looked down at the transparent film of water on his chest, then looked up at Wayne, his expression changing from warm to aggrieved: "It's been years, how come you two have become so distant?"
Wayne lowered his hand and nodded slightly to him: "Long time no see, my father."
Seeing his lukewarm attitude, Lin Qi's aggrieved expression deepened, but he didn't press the matter further. He withdrew his arms, looked Wayne up and down, and his eyes showed obvious pleasure: "You've lost weight and grown taller, but you look good. Looks like you suffered a lot at the border, but it wasn't in vain."
Wayne didn't respond to him; his gaze went past Lynch's shoulder and landed on the girl behind him.
She was a girl of about sixteen or seventeen, wearing a light blue dress, with soft chestnut hair, and extremely delicate features. Her eyes and brows carried a quiet air similar to Wayne's. She stood under the porch, her hands clasped in front of her, her gaze fixed on Wayne, a faint smile on her lips.
Alice.
"have not seen you for a long time."
Alice walked over quickly and hugged Wayne.
"Brother, you're back."
After the hug, she looked up.
Welcome home.
"Yes, I'm back."
Lin Qi felt a pang of jealousy at the sight of the brother and sister going on a blind date.
Just then, Wayne's gaze passed over Alice's shoulder and landed on Lynch's back behind her.
There were several children standing there.
The children ranged in age from four or five to sixteen or seventeen, totaling six. Some hid behind Lin Qi, only peeking out half their heads to peek at him; others stood by the porch pillars, clutching the hem of their clothes, their eyes filled with a mixture of curiosity and unfamiliarity.
Wayne's gaze swept across their faces.
He remembered that the year he left home, there were no other children in Lynch's house besides Alice. Now, several years later, six more faces had appeared out of nowhere.
A thought popped into Wayne's mind.
Is this guy a stallion?
Alice seemed to read his mind. She turned her head, leaned close to his ear, and whispered, "Brother, they are all your younger brothers and sisters. The three older ones are Father's illegitimate children. He brought them back after you left. The other three younger ones are from Father's two subsequent marriages after you left."
After listening, Wayne nodded slightly.
Standing on the steps, Lin Qi noticed Wayne's gaze fixed on the children. He took a half-step forward, waved to the children behind him, and said with undisguised boastfulness and pride, "Come on, come over here and meet your big brother."
The children looked at each other, then slowly walked forward and stood in a row in front of Wayne. Some looked down at their toes, some stole glances at Wayne's face, and the youngest hid behind the oldest boy, only showing half of his face.
Lynch stood to the side, his tone filled with pride: "Wayne, these are your younger siblings too. With the Angus family thriving in the future, you'll have your own people to help you when you're working in the capital."
Wayne looked at the children.
He showed neither disgust nor excessive enthusiasm; he simply nodded to each of the children and said gently, "My name is Wayne, and I'm your older brother. If you need any help in the future, feel free to come to me."
The children looked at each other, and then the eldest boy took the lead and said, "Hello, big brother." The younger ones followed suit and timidly called out "Hello, big brother" a few times.
Alice stood to the side, observing Wayne's indifferent attitude. She knew very well that her brother harbored no resentment towards their father's children born outside the marriage, but he would never feel that "blood-related" closeness either.
For her, all that mattered was that her brother was back.
After exchanging greetings, the children were led back into the house by the maids behind them. Lin Qi stood at the door, his gaze finally settling on the four figures behind Wayne.
Lynch's gaze swept over Emma and the others, then stopped on Wayne's face: "Wayne, this is...?"
Wayne glanced at the group, then looked away and replied calmly, "They are my family too."
Lynch's pupils dilated slightly. His gaze swept back and forth between Wayne and the four girls twice, then his expression became extremely interesting.
"My son, when did you have a child? Are you married? I had no idea!"
Wayne was speechless after hearing this.
I really don't know what this old guy is thinking. He's not much older than Emma and Ella, and I've only been gone for a few years. Did he mess up his brain from having so many kids?
Wayne took a deep breath and corrected him, "I meant in terms of relationship, like family. Not in terms of blood ties."
Lin Qi paused for a moment, then exclaimed "Oh!" in realization, replaced by a sense of understanding that "I see."
"Like family, like family, good, good. They're family too, they're family after all."
He chuckled twice, then turned his gaze back to the four girls, adopting an elder's tone: "Since they are Wayne's family, they are also my family. When you arrive at the Marquis's mansion, don't be shy, just make yourself at home."
Vera glanced at Wayne furtively, and seeing that he didn't show any particular reaction, she mustered her courage and gave Lynch a slight bow: "Thank you, Your Excellency Marquis."
The other three also bowed.
Lin Qi nodded with a smile, then turned to the side and gestured "please" towards the door.
"Don't just stand at the door, come in. Dinner is ready, let's eat first, and we can talk about it over there."
