Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 406 Agatha's Inquiry
Wayne finished looking at the panel.
His lips twitched almost imperceptibly.
Reika, what exactly is the scope of your "past" memories? Could it really be...?
He didn't dare to think about it too much.
He could only be thankful that those memories were ultimately just false; otherwise, if he had followed the direction suggested by the panel, the version of himself in Reika's memories would probably have been a lecherous woman who partied every night.
Thinking about it, Wayne recalled an excellent work from his past life—Reikano…
"Young Master? What are you thinking about?"
"It's nothing," Wayne quickly recovered, "I'm just a little hungry. Is there anything to eat?"
"Yes, yes, yes! I'll go get it for you right away!"
Reika turned and ran, her movements so fast it was as if she didn't want to waste a single second of his time. She almost tripped on the steps at the end of the corridor, but she didn't even stop. She steadied herself by holding onto the wall and disappeared around the corner in a flash.
Wayne watched her hurried figure disappear into the distance, let out a soft sigh, and turned to walk into the dining room and sit down.
Not long after, Reka returned carrying a large tray.
A bowl of steaming hot meat soup, a plate of toasted bread, a dish of smoked meat and fried eggs, and a pot of hot tea. The portion was more than twice as substantial as yesterday's bowl of congee.
"Young master, please enjoy your meal. I'll make more if you need more."
Wayne picked up a spoon and took a sip of the soup. It was perfectly seasoned, with a rich meaty aroma, and the temperature was just right. He glanced up at Reika, who was standing by the table, her hands clasped in front of her apron, watching him eat with an almost reverent gaze.
He felt a little uncomfortable under that gaze.
"Sister Reika, go ahead and do your work, you don't need to stand here."
"I've finished all my work for today." Reka shook her head. "You go ahead and eat. I just want to watch you."
She paused, then added softly, "Seeing you all well makes me feel at ease."
Wayne said no more and continued eating with his head down.
He knew that what Reka needed now was not to be driven away, but to be assured that he was indeed sitting there unharmed.
He had just stuffed the last piece of bread into his mouth when he heard footsteps at the door.
Agatha stood at the entrance to the dining room.
Today she wore a plain-colored long dress, her hair casually tied back, which made her seem less distant and more relaxed than the dignified demeanor of the city lord's wife she had yesterday.
But Wayne noticed that she had a faint bluish tint under her eyes—clearly she hadn't slept well last night either.
Her tone was calm, without any questioning or the shame and indignation she had shown yesterday.
"Xiao Ba, come to the tea room after you finish eating."
After saying that, she turned and left.
Wayne finished the last sip of tea and stood up.
"Sister Reika, I'm going to go for a bit. Leave the bowls there for now, I'll collect them when I get back."
"Young Master..."
"It's fine."
When Wayne entered the tea room, Agatha was already sitting by the window. There were two cups of tea in front of her, one beside her and the other opposite her, clearly prepared for him.
"sit."
Wayne sat down opposite her.
Agatha picked up her teacup, took a sip, put it down, and traced a circle of her fingertips on the rim, as if organizing her thoughts. After about five or six seconds of silence, she finally spoke.
"When I woke up last night, I noticed some changes in my body."
"What changes?"
"The curse has faded a lot." Agatha looked up at him. "Since I awakened as a witch, the erosion of the curse has never subsided. At most, it has been suppressed or delayed, but it has never retreated on its own like last night."
Her gaze was direct.
"I thought about yesterday's events carefully. I remember it very clearly. You spoke to me before I fell asleep, then I woke up, felt something was wrong, and then..." She paused, omitting the embarrassing memory, "and then I slept until this morning."
"So, you did it?"
Wayne shook his head.
"It's Ryan."
Agatha was taken aback: "Who?"
"Lord of the city. Your cheap husband."
Agatha's expression turned somewhat strange: "Him? What ability does he have?"
"He asked me for a potion to purify the witch's curse, and I happened to have it with me at the time, so I gave it to him."
Agatha stared at him for a long while, her brows furrowing slightly, as if trying to determine the truth of his words. But Wayne's expression remained perfectly calm, and Agatha couldn't detect any flaws in his story.
She leaned back in her chair and let out a soft sigh: "That guy... he's quite thoughtful."
Wayne didn't reply. He reached into his pocket, pulled out a folded piece of paper, unfolded it, laid it on the table, and pushed it in front of Agatha.
There was a portrait of a girl on the paper.
A loli with long purple hair, cute features, and a slightly upturned mouth, exuding a natural playfulness.
"I'd like to ask you to help me find someone."
Agatha glanced down at the portrait: "Who is this?"
"My companion got separated when we entered the city. She should be in this city too, but I don't know what her status or position was."
Agatha watched for a long time.
Then, she folded the portrait and tucked it into her sleeve.
"I'll give it a try."
She didn't make any guarantees.
"Send your maid to the tailor shop on West Street. I'll send a message there every half day. I'll let you know when there's a result."
She stood up, about to walk out, when she suddenly paused. She turned her head and glanced at Wayne.
"Do you have any Silver Magic Coins left?"
"There are some left."
"Spend it sparingly."
After saying that, she walked out of the tea room.
After Agatha left, Wayne slowly exhaled.
Although he always adhered to the principle of not taking initiative, not refusing, and not taking responsibility, he would never actually cheat on someone else's wife. He wasn't a minotaur like Charman who would run into any hole he could find; he still had that much of a bottom line.
He walked back along the corridor, pondering his next move, when Reka jogged towards him.
"Young Master! Are you alright?"
"It's nothing, we just chatted for a bit."
Reika looked him up and down several times to make sure he was indeed unharmed before letting out a sigh of relief. She patted her chest, then seemed to remember something and said, "Oh, right, young master, while you were eating, the doorman brought over a letter, saying it was for you."
"For me?"
Wayne took the envelope.
He tore open the seal and pulled out a short note inside.
Wayne took the letter, unfolded it, and glanced at it. There was no salutation, no signature, only a short line of text:
"Let's meet at the old church in the west of the city. Before this afternoon."
The handwriting is neat and there are no obvious features.
Reika leaned closer to take a look, then frowned: "Young Master, who wrote this? There's not even a name on it."
"I don't know."
"Are you going?"
Wayne folded the letter and stuffed it into his pocket: "Go. They went out of their way to send a letter; it wouldn't be right not to go and see it."
"Then I'll go with you." Reka's tone left no room for negotiation. "You've just recovered from your illness, what if..."
"Sister Reika." Wayne interrupted her seriously, pressing her shoulder, "This should be a male friend, I can go alone."
Reika's gaze swept over Wayne's face twice, as if to confirm whether he was lying. But she didn't insist further, only adding with some concern, "Then come back soon."
"Um."
