Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 446 Meeting Ophina
At that moment, the panel appeared.
[Location Information of the Eternal Sleeping Tree]
[Location of the Divine Tree: Northeast of this location, approximately eight li away, situated at the boundary between the bottom of the Divine Tomb and the Abyss.]
[Note: The Divine Tree evolved from a forbidden object.]
[Note 2: Ophina's alternate personality is a spy cultivated by Maurice in his early years. The reason she was chosen by the Vatican for focused training is precisely because of this identity operating in secret.]
After reading it, Wayne immediately expressed his feelings: "Maurice didn't self-destruct to kill us; he wanted to completely awaken the God Corpse."
Klaus asked, "What are your plans?"
"I'm going to the Divine Tree. Tessa will come with me. The rest of you, return to the area above the city. Now that all the Devil Fruits are destroyed, the demon riots will only get worse. We need manpower up there."
Klaus nodded without hesitation: "I'll take my men up there; leave the city to me."
Wayne turned to Tessa: "Let's go."
Without a word, Tessa grabbed his shoulder, and a pair of wings of holy light unfurled behind her, carrying him into the air and flying northeast.
The flight altitude wasn't high, but the view was wide enough. First, there was a gray-white stone plain, and then there were large areas of dead forest.
Further in, buildings begin to appear.
It's not a ruin, it's a complete building.
Rows of massive stone pillars stand tall, their shafts intricately carved with runes, their surfaces showing no signs of weathering. Stone archways connect one after another, forming passageways that lead deeper into the depths.
The palaces, towers, and altars are all well-preserved, as if someone has been maintaining them all along.
Tessa glanced down.
"These buildings are not in the style of the Age of Gods."
"What is that?"
"It's too new." She paused for a moment. "It looks like it was built only a few hundred years ago."
A minute later, the view of the horizon ahead prompted Tessa to slow down.
That is the sacred tree.
The trunk was so thick it couldn't be contained in the field of vision, piercing through the depths of the earth and reaching straight to the endless dome above. The crown was mostly withered, but the branches still intertwined, creating a massive skeleton in mid-air.
The tree roots weren't embedded in the soil; instead, they were wrapped around a heart.
A heart so huge it defies description.
Tessa stared at the heart, clenching her fist: "That's the core of the divine corpse's power? The entire divine corpse's energy is supplied by this heart."
Wayne took a step forward. Before he touched anything, a transparent film of light appeared before his eyes, like the edge of water.
He reached out and pressed it. The moment his fingertips touched it, the light membrane did not block it. It spread out like ripples on water, allowing his entire shadow to pass through.
Tessa reached out and tried it too; the light membrane didn't budge at her fingertips, like a solid wall.
"It's actually a powerful restrictive barrier."
Wayne said, "Looks like I'll be the only one who can go in."
Be careful.
Wayne nodded to her and stepped into the barrier.
The world inside the barrier was completely different from the outside. The air was heavy, and the ground was covered with a fine layer of black moss that made no sound when stepped on. The further one went, the clearer the sound of one's heartbeat became, like drumbeats pounding on one's chest.
Wayne walked along the tree roots toward the center, and after about a hundred steps, he saw a figure.
Ophina knelt on the ground, naked.
She knelt before the trunk of the sacred tree, her hands clasped together, her forehead pressed to the ground, murmuring in some unintelligible language. A very faint layer of black lines appeared on her skin, spreading across her back like veins, almost identical to the patterns on the roots of the sacred tree.
The panel quietly unfolded.
【Ofina - Current Status】
[Status: Anubidi has successfully entered Ophina's body and is very satisfied with it.]
[Note: The alternate personality was also satisfied with Anubidi's possession. She willingly relinquished control of her will, becoming the vessel.]
[Note 2: Ophina's primary personality attempted to rebel but failed. She is currently in a deep sleep, suppressed in the deepest recesses of her consciousness.]
Then, Ophina's prayers stopped.
She didn't get up, as if she already knew Wayne would come.
"So you're the piece of trash Serafis chose?"
She stood up and turned around.
"I don't see anything special about you."
Ofina continued.
"The divine corpse is about to awaken, and I will not allow anyone to interrupt this entire process."
Before she finished speaking, she pounced on him.
Wayne instinctively turned to the side, and a beam of black light grazed his face, embedding itself in the tree trunk behind him, corroding a fist-sized crater.
The second blow followed immediately.
A black blade flicked from Ophina's fingertips, aimed straight for his throat. Vayne raised his right arm to block, water elemental energy condensing into a thin shield on his arm. The black blade pierced the water shield, stopping it by half an inch.
She stopped, then stabbed again.
Wayne turned his head, and the black blade grazed his earlobe, drawing a line of blood.
He took a half step back and slashed out with a water blade. Ophina spun around to avoid it, pushed off the ground with her toes, and sprang back, her attack even faster than before.
Within seconds, the two had exchanged blows dozens of times.
The muffled thuds of the water blades colliding with the black light were as dense as raindrops hitting a stone slab, each strike carrying a real killing intent.
Wayne's brow furrowed more and more as he hit him.
Ophina's fighting style was completely different from the mages he had faced before. She made almost no unnecessary movements, and each attack followed the trajectory of the previous one. Her figure, footwork, and rhythm were all very agile.
The panel unfolded silently before his eyes.
【Ofina - Current Status】
[Status: Strength Assessment - Late Stage 5. With the aid of Anubidi's divine power, her combat strength has been pushed to this level in a short period.]
[Note: Anubidi, now possessing the body, is gradually mastering its use, and her power is still slowly increasing.]
[Note: Her fighting style has completely merged with her alternate personality. Her attacks are swift and ruthless, leaving no room for retreat.]
While parrying, Wayne mentally reviewed the difference in strength between the two.
He was at the early stage of the fifth rank, while his opponent was at the late stage of the fifth rank.
The difference between the two minor ranks is obvious; he wouldn't gain an advantage in a head-on confrontation. Moreover, the thing behind Ophina is adapting to this body; the longer it drags on, the stronger she becomes.
He raised his hand, and the water jet blasted towards her.
Ophina dodged to the side, and the water dragon smashed through the stone pillar behind her, sending shards of rock flying.
She used a piece of collapsed rock as leverage to spring up, leaping through the air over the aftershocks of the water dragon. With a pull of her right hand, several wisps of dark purple energy swirled between her fingers, and she aimed at Wayne's head.
Wayne clasped his hands together, forming a water shield that blocked the descending claw. The impact forced him to slide back seven or eight steps, his shoes leaving two deep gashes on the ground.
She stopped in her tracks, looking down at the wisp of dark purple energy in her right palm, her brows furrowing.
The current of air was much dimmer than before, and its edges were still dissipating, as if it had been eroded by something.
Wayne followed her gaze and a thought struck him.
Ophina dodged his water jet, but she didn't completely avoid the splash. The water droplets clung to her side, their edges steaming.
