Ice and Fire: Conquering the World Starting from the Wall
Chapter 4 Dark Sisters
The sky grew darker.
Lynn originally planned to stay overnight in the return capsule before leaving, to avoid the coldest night.
However, considering how conspicuous the previous fire was, it's best to leave as soon as possible.
As far as Lynn knew, the followers of the Cold God had been searching for the last Green Prophet. Previously, thanks to protective magic, the Three-Eyed Ravens and the Children of the Forest had hidden well, but now the fire had burned down the mountains, and even the strongest magic, once its foundation was destroyed, would likely vanish into nothingness.
As for walking at night, he wasn't afraid of the cold, but he was worried about freezing the dragon. In Blood Raven's memory, there was never any record of a giant dragon venturing into frigid lands, especially a newborn dragon.
Lynn's spacesuit is a product of cutting-edge technology, possessing extreme cold and heat resistance. It is almost completely airtight and must rely on a ventilation/cooling system to dissipate heat. Otherwise, even in environments tens of degrees below zero, he would break out in a sweat after just a few minutes of activity.
It can be directly connected to the internal power source when operating inside the space station or spacecraft, and the high-density battery mounted on its back can maintain operation for 30 hours at low power. It can also be manually pressurized or ventilated when necessary.
However, in the low-temperature environment of the atmosphere, spacesuits have almost no disadvantages except for the inconvenience of movement. If the power is out, simply loosen a few disconnectors① to expose a small gap and the problem can be solved.
So Lynn climbed into the return capsule before dark, found the emergency survival kit, and then used the rare metal weapon called "Dark Sisters" that she found next to the Blood Raven skeleton to cut a few pieces of soft, flame-retardant, and impact-resistant material from the capsule wall, and took out fishing line to sew a simple shoulder bag.
He moved all the usable supplies from the survival kit into his satchel, took out an insulated blanket and laid it inside the empty survival kit, where the baby dragon huddled comfortably.
Valyrian steel swords are indeed sharp and much more useful for work than multi-purpose survival daggers. They are so light that they don't feel like metal, and even Lynn, who had no experience with swords, could wield them with ease. They truly live up to their reputation as legendary magical weapons.
Its blade is a mysterious smoky gray, covered with seemingly flowing forging patterns. Unfortunately, the wood and leather covering the hilt were burned to ashes in the fire, leaving only a bare tang.
So Lynn used the extra material to wrap the hilt and tip of the sword, intending to use it as a walking stick.
The supplies packed into the bag included a multi-purpose dagger (the handle of which contained a magnesium flint, fishing hooks and line, and water purification tablets), a simple water filter, two bags of water that would freeze quickly, several packets of compressed biscuits and self-heating food, and an emergency medical kit.
He put the satellite phone and mobile locator back into the cabin, knowing he would probably never have the chance to use them in his life, but left the survival whistle and flashing marker behind.
Although the compass malfunctioned, it was probably due to the special geological conditions. Fortunately, it didn't take up much weight, so it wasn't lost.
Finally, he simply collected Brinden's remains and placed them in the return capsule. He simply didn't have time to dig a separate grave for him, so using this space return capsule from another world as his final resting place was not a disgrace to the title of "Duke of Blood Raven".
By the time he had closed the hatch, it was completely dark.
Lynn ate a self-heating food to replenish her strength, while the baby dragon curled up in the box and slept soundly, the cold environment making it very weak.
But the baby dragon refused the meat chunks with the seasoned smell that Lynn offered it; the dragon seemed to eat only freshly roasted raw meat, regardless of size.
There was no other way but to wait until we reached a less cold place and see if we could use the Easy Walker's abilities to catch prey.
After finishing his meal, Lynn deftly fastened his helmet, hung his satchel around his neck, and turned on the constant temperature and dehumidification system. Then, carrying a suitcase in his left hand and a sword in his right, he walked clumsily out of the hillside ruins.
The road ahead is uncertain.
Currently, the so-called King Beyond the Wall, Mance Red, is gathering his followers to prepare for an attack on the Wall, but Blood Raven is not quite sure how far along he has progressed.
Since the appearance of the Red Comet, the White Walkers have become more active, making the area beyond the Great Wall extremely dangerous.
Lynn's initial plan was to traverse the vast Ghostwood to the Wall and seek the help of Aemon Targaryen, a descendant of the Bloodraven and a maester there.
Although Eamon is already over a hundred years old and probably can't be of much help, it's still better than Lynn wandering around aimlessly like a headless fly.
After all, in this world, Eamon is probably the only person Lynn can connect with.
Of course, dragons are a problem.
As a strategic weapon that has been extinct for over a hundred years, the appearance of dragons will inevitably attract the attention of all parties, especially in Westeros, a land that was ruled by dragon families for over three hundred years.
(At this time, Lynn was unaware that Daenerys Targaryen, far across the Narrow Sea, had hatched three dragons, and that they had succeeded by accidentally triggering the Targaryen's "blood and fire" ritual.)
However, for now, we can only take it one step at a time, since whether we can even survive the Ghost Forest is a question.
Although he was not afraid of the cold, the spacesuit made his movements very inconvenient, and supplies were extremely limited. If he ran out of food and hadn't caught any prey, he might have to consider who would eat whom between him and the dragon.
As night fell, Lynn was surprised to find that the road was not too difficult to walk.
Years of snow cover almost everything, which makes the light in the forest not too dim. In addition, the area is close to winter, the trees are not dense, and the terrain is relatively flat.
But walking fast was also difficult. The snow in the forest was almost knee-deep, and every step he took involved struggling against the resistance of the snow and the inflexible joints of his spacesuit. This meant that he had to rest every few hundred meters and open his helmet to cool down.
The spacesuit's built-in temperature control system was designed for the space environment and did not support strenuous physical activity under gravity, which Lynn had not anticipated.
Therefore, he walked for most of the night and only traveled about four or five kilometers, which is equivalent to one league in this world.
As for the direction problem, it's easy to solve; he just needs to walk towards the side where the trees have more dense foliage.
Although the north is cold, there is still a bit of sunshine every day, and the side facing the sun will inevitably be more lush.
As the night wore on, Lynn was exhausted and sleepy. He had no choice but to find a fallen tree to rest under. He lay down on the leeward side and quickly fell asleep.
Before going to sleep, Lynn possessed the young dragon and found that although it was still a little listless, its overall condition was not bad. The metal-coated heat insulation blanket worked very well and made it feel very comfortable.
The next day, Lynn was awakened by the sound of heavy footsteps on the snow.
He was startled and hurriedly opened his eyes, only to find everything in front of him was white.
For a moment he thought he had gone blind, before realizing that his helmet was covered with a thin layer of snow.
But he didn't move, because the sound of footsteps on the snow was dense and heavy, and very close to him. Now Lynn only regretted that the snow wasn't falling enough to completely bury him.
Several shouts rang out; they were ancient words from our ancestors.
"There are too many of them!"
"You can't escape."
"Fight! Fight!"
"Long live Magna II!"
He was a wild man from beyond the Great Wall named Thane.
This was followed by frantic shouts and the sound of hacking and slashing.
More footsteps sounded, getting closer and closer, their intensity sending chills down Lynn's spine.
