Gold Rush Starts in the Bering Sea

Chapter 3: The Hart Family

"Kid, get up now, we have to get to work!"

The next morning, Jason was dragged out of bed by Albert.

Washing face, brushing teeth, eating breakfast—everything is done quickly.

Jason was in high spirits today. Although he got up late, he was the first to arrive at the warehouse.

A moment later, Albert and Ada walked in, followed by two familiar faces.

A man with long, slicked-back hair, a stubble-covered face, and wrinkles from the Bering Sea breeze, was burly and had a half-lit cigar between his teeth, his breath coming in gasps.

He was wearing a blue denim outfit, which was covered in greasy stains, clearly indicating that it was specifically designed for work.

This is old Hart, Albert's close friend and family friend.

The other was young-looking, with a neat beard, short, clean hair, and a toolbox in his hand. He was tall and stood quietly behind Old Hart.

This person was Little Hart, Jason's childhood friend.

Facing Jason's gaze, Little Hart suddenly raised an eyebrow and grinned.

Old Hart scrutinized Jason, exhaling a puff of smoke, and said, "Didn't you swear you'd never pan for gold when you were a kid? What's gotten into you now?"

"Never mind, it's not important. I heard from Albert that you have this plan, that's enough."

Before Jason could speak, Old Hart cut him off and walked straight into the warehouse.

Little Hart walked over to Jason, grabbed him by the neck, and whispered, "What's going on? I heard you're planning to go gold mining?"

Little Hart is a full 1.9 meters tall and works on gold-digging ships year-round, making him incredibly robust.

Jason struggled to break free from Little Hart's grasp and replied, "Yes, I'm starting to plan on mining for gold. Do you want to work with me?"

With a sidelong glance, Little Hart said irritably, "Stop messing around."

We've known each other since we were kids, we know each other well. He's not crazy to follow Jason.

"I'm not kidding, I'm serious."

Jason wasn't joking; he had seriously considered inviting Hart Jr.

Little Hart is a childhood friend who knows everything about his character and comes from a family of gold miners.

Unlike Jason, Hart grew up on a gold-diving ship and had a great passion for gold panning; he was a true all-rounder.

There are only three months left until the start of the new year's gold rush season. In such a short time, it is impossible to fully master all kinds of machinery!

Jason's goal is simple: find gold!

As for gold mining and other things, he is neither good at them nor needs to be good at them.

During these few months, he only needs to familiarize himself with the equipment and be able to operate it; the rest can be left to others.

Little Hart is one of the alternatives.

"Don't you work on your dad's ship? How much do you earn a month?"

"If you work for me, you'll not only get a salary, but you'll also get a share of the profits."

"And another thing, don't you want to try doing it all by yourself?"

Jason tried to persuade him, but it was clear that Little Hart wasn't interested. What he said seemed reasonable, but it was contingent on finding gold.

On the other side, Old Hart and Albert were discussing and checking the condition of various devices.

Although it was just a small gold-dredging boat, it had a lot of equipment on it, and since it had been dismantled for so long, each piece of equipment needed to be retested.

Fortunately, they are all modular components, so they can be easily repositioned. This is not a big problem for people who make a living by fishing at sea.

It's just a matter of time.

A day passed in the blink of an eye. Various equipment were inspected, including gold suction pumps, separation equipment, positioning and navigation equipment, diving equipment, and so on. After testing each one, there were no major problems.

Overall, there are no major problems, but quite a few minor ones.

Throughout the examination, Jason kept taking notes and trying to understand everything.

He kept asking questions whenever he encountered something he didn't understand, asking whoever he could find.

Hart and the others were somewhat amazed by Jason's enthusiasm, but not overly surprised.

Having been in the Bering Sea for so many years, I've encountered far too many hotheads, but this time it's just Jason.

The initial momentum is great, but the stamina is insufficient. If you don't see any gold in ten days or half a month, the momentum will immediately dissipate.

Of course, neither Ada nor Hart took Jason's invitation seriously. They had little confidence in someone who hadn't proven himself.

"Little Hart, my good brother, you really should work with me. Look at the kind of life you're living," Jason said softly, glancing at old Hart who was talking to Albert as they parted.

"Work with me, trust me, we'll definitely succeed!"

With such great resources right in front of him, Jason was indeed unwilling to give up.

It's not that we can't find people, it's just that we don't know their skills or their character. Those with skills have already been identified.

As for Ada, Jason took a chance, which turned out to be an unexpected bonus, and it was not surprising.

"Jason, I'll think about it," Little Hart patted Jason on the shoulder with a smile, clearly not taking it to heart.

"I'm leaving, see you tomorrow."

He wanted to persuade him further, but saw that Little Hart had already been called away by Old Hart.

Despite his reluctance, Jason wasn't too disappointed; it just meant that the gold rush that followed was a bit more complicated.

"Jason, we need to talk," Albert called to Jason after dinner, as Jason was about to go upstairs to rest.

He placed the report in front of Jason, gesturing for him to pick it up and take a look.

Lillian: Installation costs, estimated operating costs, estimated fuel costs, estimated personnel costs, etc.

Jason was somewhat taken aback. Although he knew that the cost of a gold-digging boat was not low, he did not expect that the estimated expenses alone would be nearly $120,000, which was indeed not low.

"Jason, as you can see, I can cover the cost for you. If you fail, you'll need to work on the family's gold-digging ship until you pay it back," Albert said, taking a sip of his drink and observing Jason's expression.

"Of course, you can go to the family's gold panning boat first to gain experience, and then you can start panning for gold on your own later," Albert gave Jason another option.

"No, I choose to pan for gold myself!" Jason said firmly.

fail? !

How could we possibly fail!

One failure in life is enough!

For Jason, who possesses detection capabilities, failure is not an option!

Albert downed the wine in his glass in one gulp; he hadn't expected his son to be so bold.

Although he didn't know if Jason would succeed, that was exactly the kind of courage he needed.

There are many winners, but even more losers; gold rush is inherently a gamble.

It's only a few hundred thousand dollars. Whether it's a lesson or something else, Albert is happy to try.

Back in his room, Jason reviewed the reports again, this time with even greater care; this was a step he had to take.

According to my own plan, I will definitely have more and more of these kinds of expenses in the future.
