Gold Rush Starts in the Bering Sea
Chapter 5: Brent Joins the Fellowship
Jason woke up to his sister Ellie's calls and got out of bed.
After brushing my teeth, washing my face, and tidying my hair a bit, I went downstairs at my mother Lillian's urging.
"How's it going? Have you found anyone?"
Albert took a sip of milk and asked.
"Of course!" Jason said confidently.
"Hmph, liar!" Ellie pouted. "Ada already said so."
"Eat your food," Jason said, gently flicking Ellie's forehead.
Lillian tapped her glass lightly: "Alright, let's eat first, stop fooling around."
Ellie rolled her eyes and glared at Jason fiercely.
After eating a sandwich and bacon, then a fried egg and a glass of milk, Jason finally got up.
Sitting on the sofa, he kept glancing out the window, waiting for Brent and Eric to arrive.
"How's it going? Is it hard to find people? Want me to come and work for you?" Albert said, shaking the newspaper in his hand.
Jason shook his head: "I'd do it even if I had to do it all by myself!"
Ada took a sip of coffee and shook her head when she heard Jason's words.
The family had already discussed it behind Jason's back, and they planned to teach him a lesson this year about Jason's intention to go it alone.
Even if we don't find any gold, the family can still make ends meet with the investment and employee expenses.
For a complete novice who knows nothing, success is almost impossible!
Many people come to the Bering Sea every year, and quite a few are experienced, but only a few succeed.
Of course, he wouldn't say that; only reality teaches people a lesson.
When Brent and Eric's figures came into Jason's view through the window, Jason got up and walked to the door to greet them.
Welcome!
"Jason, we've come to see your gold rush ship," Corinna said with a smile, peeking out from behind Brent.
"Of course, let's go."
Jason led the way. He had a guess as to why Corinna was hiding behind Brent, but he didn't mind.
Upon opening the warehouse door, the Lillian, already fully equipped, came into view.
Jason turned to the three of them and said, "Welcome to visit."
The three of them didn't stand on ceremony and boarded the ship to look at the various equipment.
"Although the equipment on the Lillian is a bit old, it's not a problem at all. It hasn't been in use for very long, as you can tell from its appearance," Jason explained without hiding anything.
The boat wasn't large, but it was fully equipped with all sorts of equipment.
"Brent, Eric, if you come aboard my ship, I can give each of you five percent of your gold!"
"Of course, if you're worried that I won't be able to find the gold, I have a second option: a monthly salary of 3000 US dollars per person, plus a 1% share of the gold."
Jason mentioned both options, but it's clear that Brent and Eric will likely choose the second one.
I choose the second option.
Brent reached out his hand, decisively.
"Welcome to the team!" Jason laughed; he'd already secured one.
Corinna panicked and, before Eric could even speak, said, "Eric, I'll offer you the same salary."
Jason wasn't in a hurry. He was already quite satisfied with Brent's joining, and he wasn't so eager for Eric to join now.
"I'm joining"
With Corinna and Eric shaking hands, this mutual interview finally came to an end.
"It's my treat, we're having barbecue today."

Albert sat under the eaves, a cigar dangling from his lips, and smiled as he looked at the four youthful figures.
Days passed by, and with the arrival of the gold rush season, the town became increasingly populated. For many, it was not a place to live, but only a place to work.
In the bar, gold prospectors who hadn't seen each other for a year drank and discussed their goals for the year.
Some were making bets, with the stake being an ounce of gold.
Recruit crew members, repair ships.
Some small gold-digging boats that couldn't wait have already started working on the frozen Bering Sea.
The makeshift house, equipped with money-attracting and energy-supplying devices, was pulled onto the ice by a vehicle, ready to drill a hole and extract money.
For many people who didn't own gold panning boats, this method of gold panning, though inefficient, could still bring in a considerable income once a vein was found.
The Bering Sea holds no secrets, only gold!
If you find gold in international waters today, that spot will surely attract a bunch of gold prospectors tomorrow.
Jason is also actively preparing.
Today I'm driving with my mother, Lillian, to buy food and supplies; tomorrow I'll be with my father, Albert, to buy equipment and fuel.
Time flies by.
Jason has gained a great deal during this period, and the various procurement and coordination experiences are invaluable.
His goal was simple: the Bering Sea was just the first step in his gold rush!
His target is hard rock gold mines!
In the time leading up to the start of the gold rush season, Jason and Corinna became friends, often getting together for meals and chatting.
Of course, the most discussed topic was gold mining.
The small town was teeming with gold prospectors, some newbies, some seasoned veterans playing around, and others who considered themselves experts observing from the sidelines.
As the time drew ever closer, the shores of the Bering Sea were filled with gold-digging boats of all shapes and sizes, waiting for the ice to melt.
"It's about half a month later this year than last year."
"Indeed, I went out to sea in early May last year, and it's already May 14th this year."
"The time is about right, it should be in the next few days."

In the small bar, all sorts of discussions took place, and Jason and his friends were also having a chat in a corner.
"Brent, how much gold did your gold-digging ships harvest in total last year?" Jason asked curiously.
"Uh, not much."
A burly man, about 1.9 meters tall, lowered his head and drank his beer, looking somewhat awkward.
Eric, who was standing to the side, didn't say anything and started drinking.
"Hahaha," Corinna laughed out loud, "It really wasn't much. Last year, that gold rush ship didn't even harvest an ounce for the entire gold rush season."
Jason looked on in disbelief, while Brent and Eric gave awkward smiles.
"Is that ship owner still participating in the gold rush this year?"
"They must have rented the boat to someone else. After all, there are so many gold prospectors here, and earning rent is not bad," Brent thought for a while, somewhat uncertain.
"This is the Bering Sea."
Corinna smiled, stood up, raised her glass, and said loudly, "To the Bering Sea!"
"Respect to Bai Linghai!"
The entire bar raised their glasses in response to the sound.
Ada took a sip of her drink and said to Jason, "Do you regret it?"
"No regrets!" Jason smiled, his words firm and resolute.
Ada didn't say anything, but clinked glasses with Jason and drank the wine in her glass in one gulp.
"Hey, stop pretending to be so profound. Come on, keep drinking. Once the gold rush season comes, you won't be able to drink anymore," Corinna patted Ada and reached out to refill Ada's glass with wine.
By May 24th, the Bering Sea had completely thawed.
The new gold rush season.
