Marvel: Starting with Iron Man in the Apocalypse
Chapter 137 Ability Granting
After making a breakthrough in his magical research, Chen Haotian turned his attention to another member of the team—Tony Stark. If this technological genius could also gain magical abilities, the fusion of technology and magic would reach new heights.
"Are you sure this is a good idea?" Nick Fury stood in the modified magic experiment area, his brow furrowed slightly. "Tony's way of thinking is too scientific and rational, while magic requires conviction and intuition."
Chen Haotian was adjusting the newly designed energy guiding device: "That's precisely why it's more challenging. If even Tony can master magic, then it proves that our research methods are indeed feasible."
Tony himself was quite interested: "I've always wanted to see what these energies that defy the laws of physics are all about. If we could analyze magic using scientific methods, that would be an unprecedented breakthrough."
Preparations lasted two full days. They constructed a complex energy matrix in the center of the laboratory, placing the Amazonian bracelet at its core, surrounded by specially crafted Kryptonian crystals. These crystals were specially treated to create a buffer layer between technological and magical energies.
"Remember," Chen Haotian reminded Tony one last time before the experiment began, "don't try to understand magic with logic, but feel it. Just like the intuition you had when you first piloted the Iron Man armor."
Tony nodded and stepped into the energy matrix: "Come on, let me see this so-called 'magic'."
Nick Fury began chanting the incantation, and the Amazonian bracelets gradually emitted a soft golden light. The Kryptonian crystals lit up, forming energy bridges that slowly channeled magical energy towards Tony.
At first, everything seemed to be going smoothly. Tony, with his eyes closed and a look of surprise on his face, said, "I can feel... a kind of flowing energy, like electricity, but completely different."
Chen Haotian monitored the data screen: "Energy transmission is stable, and magical aptitude is being activated."
However, just as the magical energy was about to fully merge with Tony's body, an accident occurred.
"Warning! Energy conflict!" The laboratory's alarm system suddenly sounded.
Tony suddenly opened his eyes, his expression pained: "Something is rejecting me... in my chest..."
Chen Haotian immediately realized the problem: "It's the Ark Reactor! Technological energy and magical energy are clashing!"
The arc reactor on Tony's chest began to flicker uncontrollably, and the surrounding magical energy field fluctuated violently. Kryptonian crystals shattered one after another due to overload, and the energy matrix was on the verge of collapse.
"Interrupt the transmission!" Chen Haotian shouted.
Nick Fury hurriedly stopped the spell, but the magical energy had already gone out of control, rampaging through the laboratory like a wild horse.
"No! The energy field won't dissipate!" Nick Fury tried to control the situation, but the raging magical energy refused to obey his guidance.
Tony knelt down, pressing his hands tightly to his chest: "It feels like... two forces are fighting inside me..."
Chen Haotian quickly activated the emergency plan, initiating the suppressive force field surrounding the laboratory. The powerful energy barrier slowly contracted, attempting to compress the out-of-control magical energy back to its center.
"Tony, hang in there!" Chen Haotian shouted while operating the control panel. "Try to guide the energy, don't resist it!"
Tony gritted his teeth, cold sweat beading on his forehead: "I'm trying... but the reactor's energy is automatically counterattacking... like the immune system attacking a virus..."
Nick Fury joined in the energy channeling, his magical abilities resonating with the runaway energy, slightly slowing its frenzy: "This won't do! We must find a balance between technological and magical energy!"
Chen Haotian stared at the data screen, his mind racing. The screen displayed real-time fluctuations of two energies: technological energy was regular and stable, while magical energy was free and unpredictable. The conflict between the two was like that between fire and water.
"Tony, recall how it felt during your first flight!" Chen Haotian suddenly shouted, "That feeling of breaking conventions and defying common sense!"
Tony paused for a moment, then understood what Chen Haotian meant. He closed his eyes, trying to recall the experience of flying freely, the exhilaration of breaking free from the constraints of gravity.
Surprisingly, as Tony's mindset shifted, the energy conflict within him began to lessen. The technological energy no longer so vehemently rejected the magical energy; instead, it began to attempt to coexist with it.
"It's working!" Nick Fury was pleasantly surprised to find the violent intensity of the magical energy decreasing. "Continue, Tony!"
Tony was completely absorbed in that memory, a slight smile even appearing on his face. The flashing frequency of the Arc Reactor gradually stabilized, and the fluctuations of magical energy became gentler.
However, just when everyone thought the crisis was over, a new problem arose.
"Energy interaction has stalled!" Chen Haotian stared at the data on the screen. "The two energies are no longer conflicting, but they're no longer merging either. It's like they've reached a ceasefire agreement, but are refusing further communication."
Tony opened his eyes, sensing the changes within his body: "It's a strange feeling...like two strangers in a room, respecting each other's space, yet ignoring each other."
The experiment was forced to stop. Tony did gain a sliver of magical sensitivity, but this ability was incompatible with his technological nature and could not be used effectively.
"The problem lies in the difference in the nature of energy." That evening, while analyzing the experimental data, Chen Haotian summarized, "Technological energy relies on rules and logic, while magical energy relies on belief and intuition. To truly integrate them, we need to find common ground between the two."
Tony rubbed his still slightly throbbing temples: "What they have in common? They seem completely opposite."
"Not necessarily," Nick Fury offered a different perspective. "Doesn't technology often require breaking with conventional thinking? The greatest scientific discoveries often come from leaps of intuition."
Chen Haotian nodded in agreement: "That's right. Science and magic are both ways of understanding the world, just different paths. If we can find that intersection..."
Over the next few days, they paused their experiments and turned their attention to studying the nature of the energy conflict. By analyzing a large amount of data, they discovered that the conflict did not originate from energy itself, but from the cognitive patterns of the energy bearers.
"Look here," Chen Haotian pointed to the energy fluctuation diagram, "the conflict is most intense when Tony tries to understand magic with scientific thinking; but when he temporarily puts aside logic and feels magic intuitively, the conflict lessens."
Tony pondered, "So the problem isn't with the energy, but with me?"
"It's about your mindset," Nick Fury added. "Magic doesn't follow a fixed formula like technology. Every spell is unique, depending on the caster's state of mind and beliefs at the time."
This discovery has given research a new direction. Instead of trying to forcibly merge the two energies, they are looking for a bridge that can connect the two ways of thinking.
Chen Haotian designed a series of training programs to help Tony develop intuitive thinking. These training programs included meditation, artistic creation, and even some seemingly meaningless games. At first, Tony was very resistant to this, thinking that these training programs were "unscientific" and "illogical," but as time went on, he gradually came to appreciate their value.
"Today I tried to improve the reactor design using that 'intuitive' approach," Tony excitedly shared his findings a week later, "and the efficiency improved by seven percent! Completely defying existing engineering principles!"
Nick Fury laughed: "It seems you've grasped the basics of magic—believing the impossible."
Nevertheless, the energy conflict issue is not entirely resolved. Tony can briefly use weak magical abilities, but these abilities are extremely unstable and difficult to coordinate with his technological equipment.
"We need more time," Chen Haotian said at Friday's debriefing meeting. "But we've seen hope. The fusion of technology and magic isn't something that can be achieved overnight, but as long as we find the right method..."
The experiment has temporarily come to a close, but the research continues. Chen Haotian knows that resolving this energy conflict will be key to achieving a true fusion of technology and magic. And if successful, their power will reach a completely new level.
