Marvel: Starting with Iron Man in the Apocalypse
Chapter 138 Conflict Resolution
After Tony's magical enchantment experiment failed, Chen Haotian locked himself in the lab for two whole days. Nick Fury would occasionally bring food, but it was mostly returned untouched. Tony, on the other hand, was busy debugging his armor system, trying to find a breakthrough from a technological perspective.
On the morning of the third day, Chen Haotian finally emerged from the laboratory, his eyes bloodshot, but with a hint of excitement in his expression.
"I think I've found the key to the problem." He spread a stack of data charts on the table. "It's not an energy conflict, but a cognitive conflict."
Tony put down his tools and walked over: "What do you mean?"
"Look here," Chen Haotian pointed to the energy fluctuation diagram, "When magical energy comes into contact with your Ark Reactor, it doesn't create a physical repulsion, but a conceptual conflict. Magic relies on 'possibility,' while technology relies on 'certainty.' In your subconscious, you refuse to accept things that violate the laws of physics, and this refusal forms a barrier in your energy field."
Nick Fury said thoughtfully, "So, the problem isn't with energy itself, but with Tony's way of thinking?"
"Exactly," Chen Haotian nodded. "We need to find a bridge to connect certainty and possibility, logic and intuition."
Tony frowned. "This sounds like a philosophical question, not an engineering one."
"In the fields of advanced technology and magic, the two are often interconnected." Chen Haotian pulled up a series of new design drawings. "I designed a new type of energy harmonization device. It does not attempt to fuse the two energies, but creates an intermediate state that allows them to coexist peacefully."
The new device looks like an intricate metal spider, with a miniature arc reactor at its center, surrounded by specially treated Kryptonian crystals, each sculpted into intricate geometric patterns.
"What are these patterns?" Tony asked curiously.
"Ancient runes from the Amazonian artifacts," Chen Haotian explained, "They can guide magical energy to flow in a more orderly manner. At the same time, the central ark reactor provides a stable technological energy field. This device will act as a buffer, allowing you to gradually adapt to the presence of magic."
For the next three days, they devoted themselves entirely to the manufacture of the new device. Tony was in charge of the technology, ensuring that the miniaturized version of the Arc Reactor could operate stably; Nick Fury used his newly acquired magical abilities to infuse the Kryptonian crystal with magical energy; and Chen Haotian oversaw the overall operation, constantly adjusting the design plan.
As the device was nearing completion, Chen Haotian proposed an even bolder idea: "External devices alone may not be enough; we need to change your energy field from the inside."
"What do you mean?" Tony asked.
"I want to try a two-way adaptation process. Not only to make you adapt to magic, but also to make magic adapt to you." Chen Haotian pulled up a complex energy field simulation diagram. "Through precise control, we can make magical energy mimic certain characteristics of technological energy, while at the same time allowing your technological energy to learn to coexist with magic."
Nick Fury looked somewhat worried: "This sounds dangerous. Forcibly altering the nature of energy could lead to unpredictable consequences."
"The risks do exist," Chen Haotian admitted, "but this is currently our most likely solution to succeed."
That same evening, as the device was completed, they began their second attempt in the lab. Tony stood at the center of the energy matrix, a newly developed harmonizing device mounted on his chest. This time, the matrix's design was far more complex, incorporating multiple energy sources from two universes.
"Remember," Chen Haotian reminded him again before the experiment began, "don't resist, but don't try to accept it deliberately. Maintain an observer's mindset, just like you're observing a new phenomenon in a laboratory."
Tony took a deep breath and nodded.
The experiment began. Nick Fury chanted an incantation, and magical energy flowed into Tony once more. This time, the harmonizing device activated, partially transforming the magical energy as it passed through, resulting in a more ordered state.
"The energy field is stable," Chen Haotian monitored the data, "and the level of conflict has decreased by 70% compared to last time."
Tony closed his eyes, his expression much calmer than last time: "It feels different... no longer an intruder, more like... a guest?"
As magical energy gradually merged in, the arc reactor at the center of the harmonizing device began to emit a soft glow. Remarkably, the magical energy began to actively adapt to the frequency of the technological energy, and the two energies slowly established a harmonious resonance.
"Incredible," Nick Fury whispered. "The magical energy is mimicking the fluctuation patterns of technological energy."
Chen Haotian stared intently at the screen: "Not only that, but the power of technology is also changing, beginning to accommodate more possibilities."
The process lasted for nearly an hour. A soft hum filled the laboratory as the last wisp of magical energy merged into Tony's energy field. Tony opened his eyes, extended his palm, and a small cluster of blue flames danced in his hand.
"This is..." Tony stared in surprise at the flame in his hand. It was neither a purely technological creation nor a traditional magical flame, but a peculiar existence somewhere in between.
"It's a success!" Nick Fury rarely smiled.
But Chen Haotian remained cautious: "Test the control. Try changing the shape of the flames."
Tony focused his mind, and the flame in his hand transformed into a cube, then into a rotating sphere, all according to his will. The entire process was smooth and natural, without any of the previous conflicts.
"How are you feeling?" Chen Haotian asked.
Tony thought for a moment: "It's strange. I can still understand the process scientifically—energy conversion, form control—but at the same time, I intuitively know how to do it. It's like...thinking with both hemispheres of my brain at the same time."
Over the next few hours, they conducted a series of tests. Tony was able to use his basic magical abilities reliably, and these abilities coexisted peacefully with his technological equipment. Most surprisingly, when he donned the Iron Man armor, the magical abilities not only did not conflict but also created a synergistic effect with the armor system.
"Look at this," Tony cast a simple light sphere spell inside the armor, which was amplified through the armor's energy conduction system. "The magical power has been amplified!"
Chen Haotian recorded the data: "It seems your armor system can act as a magic amplifier. This could be a new direction for the fusion of technology and magic."
Late at night, the testing temporarily came to an end. Tony, though exhausted, was invigorated: "So we've found a solution? Technology and magic can coexist?"
"We have found a solution," Chen Haotian corrected, "but it's not final. The current harmonizing device requires regular maintenance, and there's still room for improvement in the degree of energy integration. Nevertheless, it is indeed an important breakthrough."
Nick Fury added, "More importantly, we have proven a principle—that energy systems in different universes are not irreconcilable, provided the right approach is found."
Tony removed his armor and gently touched the harmonizing device on his chest. "You know," he said, "this reminds me of something. If technology and magic can be merged, could other differences between different universes also be reconciled?"
Chen Haotian smiled slightly: "This is precisely the direction we will continue our research in. But let's stop here for tonight. You need to rest and allow your body to adapt to this new energy state."
After Tony left, Chen Haotian and Nick Fury stayed in the lab to organize the data.
"Do you think this solution is sustainable?" Nick Fury asked.
Chen Haotian looked at Tony's energy field data on the screen: "There shouldn't be any problems in the short term. In the long term, as Tony becomes more and more accustomed to magical energy, he may eventually no longer need external devices. But more importantly, the method we've found can be applied to other fields."
"for example?"
"For example, to solve the spacetime oscillation problem caused by the mixing of technologies from the two universes." Chen Haotian pulled up the previous spacetime oscillation data. "If technology and magical energy can be reconciled, then perhaps the technological differences between the Marvel and DC universes can also find a balance."
Nick Fury nodded thoughtfully: "So Tony's experiment not only solved his personal problem, but also opened up a broader research direction for us."
"That's exactly right." Chen Haotian turned off the data screen. "Every breakthrough brings new possibilities. And now, we've just opened a new door."
