Dawn of Life

Chapter 26 It Was Him All Along

Qin Lan shook her head and told Lin Yue that Zhang Wei had recommended her. The circle was small, and they had a mutual acquaintance, which was why they established contact. Last time, Lin Yue proved to Shengxing that Zhang Wei lacked the ability to manage a project effectively, so Zhang Wei completely gave up on competing with her for the director position.

Meanwhile, during the days he was sidelined by her, Zhang Wei began to look for a way out for himself. Finally, when Sheng Xing inadvertently revealed that Lin Yue had no HRD experience, he recommended the candidate to Sheng Xing.

Shengxing certainly met with him. He had no reason to refuse a good resume and also wanted to give himself more options.

But what's strange this time is that Zhang Wei didn't publicize it. So Lin Yue guessed that perhaps Shengxing hadn't thought things through clearly yet.

Seeing Lin Yue silently counting the rice in her bowl, Qin Lan continued, "The relationship between a platform and its employees is one of mutual success. You need to consider whether the current environment at Dasheng is still suitable for your career development. As for whether Shengxing should continue to use you, or how to use you, that's something Shengxing needs to consider. And most importantly, you need to find a boss who understands you, so that you can gain professional satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment."

Lin Yue looked up at Qin Lan and said seriously, "Thank you for telling me this, boss. But I might have a different opinion on the point you just mentioned. As a professional, you'll always encounter all sorts of bosses. You can't expect every boss you meet to be compatible with you. Managing upwards is also a skill. If you can't do this well and choose to run away, then you'll still run away when you encounter the same difficulties at the next company."

After a pause, Lin Yue wanted to tell Qin Lan that she was now supporting her family alone, with elderly parents and young children to care for. According to Maslow's hierarchy of needs, she was still at the survival needs stage and had not yet reached the level of self-actualization. Therefore, she was not qualified to choose her boss or even consider the conditions for her career development too much.

But she swallowed those words, because she was still a little unsure about Qin Lan's purpose in telling her this.

Looking into her determined eyes, Qin Lan hesitated, then finally showed a relieved expression. After that, the two didn't continue the conversation.

When Qin Lan first heard the news, she felt a sense of shared misery among working professionals. Ultimately, she decided to tell Lin Yue, though she also had her own ulterior motives. If Lin Yue lost trust in Shengxing, she would seek other opportunities and would be more inclined to side with Liu Zheng in handling matters, which would benefit their future plans.

Of course, if Lin Yue can find a way to deal with Shengxing, that will be a testament to her abilities, and Qin Lan will be happy for her.

Back home, Lin Yue lay in bed, her mind replaying the scene of her dinner with Qin Lan and their conversation. She thought she still needed to test Sheng Xing's attitude; if he really had this idea, she should indeed make plans sooner rather than later.

However, she was unwilling to accept it and even felt wronged. Although she was prepared to be unable to perform her duties for three months, she would still be deeply affected if such an outcome actually occurred.

The next day, Lin Yue went to Shengxing's office to report on her work. Afterwards, she put on a troubled expression and said, "Zhang Wei sent me two versions of the work plan, and I had him copy them to President Sheng. When would you like to have him report on it?"

Sheng Xing looked up, leaned back in his chair, and scanned Lin Yue's face before finally speaking, "Judging from your expression, are you dissatisfied with his plans?"

Lin Yue pursed her lips and explained, "Zhang Wei is a manager, and I hope President Sheng can give me some advice on his appointment."

Sheng Xing knew, of course, that this was a test, so he waved his hand, feigning indifference, and said casually, "Since the entire department has been handed over to you, you can decide who your team members are."

Lin Yue quickly deciphered Sheng Xing's words. Did this mean he was giving her absolute authority and making good use of her? Was Zhang Wei's recommendation of the HRD candidate just wishful thinking on his part? Or did Sheng Xing, after interviewing and comparing candidates, decide that she was more cost-effective?

She realized that the boss's approach to hiring and the department's approach were indeed different. The department considered whether a person could produce results and whether they had any influence over them; while the boss, in addition to being easy to use, valued loyalty and cost-effectiveness.

So, she seemed to gain some confidence and continued, "Zhang Wei's current proposal is indeed somewhat unsatisfactory. Yuehua and Xiaoyu have already finished their current work, and Zhang Wei's expertise in lecturing might not be applicable in the near future. How about I have him develop a few courses, and we can discuss them in the next stage of the company's development?"

Lin Yue's original intention was to sideline Zhang Wei and manage Shengxing's expectations in advance, so that Shengxing wouldn't think she was bad at using people.

Sheng Xing scrutinized her intently, as if assessing her worth. Through his observations over this period, he realized that Zhang Wei was indeed no match for Lin Yue in terms of ability. Judging from her attitude today, he had guessed that she probably already knew about Zhang Wei recommending the HRD for an interview last time.

Moreover, he had clearly instructed Zhang Wei not to tell a third person about his interview with the HRD, and he didn't actually intend to recruit anyone; he just wanted to keep a reserve.

The fact that Lin Yue found out so quickly shows that Zhang Wei is unreliable. Since Lin Yue wants to establish her authority within the team, but she's still acting conservatively as always, he'll give her another push. So he said, "Since someone else can handle the specific tasks, why don't you also take on the role of training manager? This will facilitate unified management and save on the cost of one person."

Sheng Xing's words surprised Lin Yue, but upon reflection, they made perfect sense. From his perspective, since this person was currently unemployed, there was no need to support him.

Lin Yue was genuinely upset. She knew what it meant to suddenly lose your job in middle age. In fact, she had already sidelined Zhang Wei at the last meeting. If she hadn't learned that he had rejected the HRD candidate to Shengxing, she wouldn't have used Zhang Wei to test Shengxing again, and the current situation wouldn't have occurred.

She also lamented the harsh realities of the workplace, where everyone is merely a pawn, easily discarded if deemed useless. Of course, she understood this; after all, a company is a business organization, and the boss only considers your current value, ignoring the past and future.

Therefore, every day at the company, one must prove their value. Seeing Sheng Xing's resolute expression, Lin Yue knew there was no turning back. So she cautiously began, "President Sheng, Zhang Wei has been with the company for over three years and has developed several high-quality courses, so regarding the severance pay..."

Sheng Xing waved his hand to interrupt Lin Yue, feigning magnanimity, and said, "You can handle these small matters yourself."

Then, Lin Yue got up and left Shengxing's office. Just as she was about to open the office door, Shengxing suddenly called her back, as if he had remembered something important: "I recently signed with a consulting firm. The consultant will come over in a couple of days to help you sort out the company's human resources-related work. Please receive him."

Lin Yue's hand, which was on the doorknob, froze for a moment. She quickly understood why Sheng Xing had handled Zhang Wei's matter so decisively. It turned out that he had better cards to play and could better balance management.

Back at her workstation, she prepared the resignation negotiation agreement. Once a decision is made on this matter, it must be handled quickly, accurately, and decisively to avoid any unforeseen complications and to allow the employee to start the next phase of their career as soon as possible.

In the conference room, Zhang Wei and Lin Yue sat facing each other. Zhang Wei quickly sensed something from Lin Yue's avoidance of eye contact. In his mind, it must have been Lin Yue who complained to Shengxing that led to his dismissal. His expression grew increasingly grim. Since she was sitting opposite him, it meant the matter was already settled. He needed to fight for as much benefit as possible.

Zhang Wei, his face dark, spoke in an icy tone, "Tell me, how is the severance pay calculated? When do you want me to leave?"
