Chapter 138: Mortal Body
When Luo Ning opened his eyes again, he found himself tightly protected by several soldiers.
He looked up and realized that he had fallen a great distance, and not even vertically.
The landslide opening overhead had long been completely blocked by rubble, preventing even a sliver of light from getting through.
"It seems there are no reinforcements at all," Luo Ning muttered to himself, his face full of helplessness.
He looked at the soldiers around him; each of them was on edge, scanning the surrounding darkness warily, not daring to even breathe.
In the shadows surrounding them, countless green-skinned creatures were wandering aimlessly.
Clearly, the mine collapse had terrified these monsters.
Some of the green-skinned people were killed instantly by falling rocks, while most of the rest simply assumed it was a normal geological collapse and found no trace of humans.
"Sir, you're awake." A soldier spoke cautiously in a low voice.
Luo Ning nodded and asked in a deep voice, "What's the situation now?"
"It looks like this is the Greenskins' lair, mostly with farts and Greenskins Kids. There's a similar exit at the nine o'clock position, but we can't move there for now."
The soldiers quickly reported the situation, and Luo Ning was well aware of the current state of affairs.
Both the soldiers and Ronin wore low-light night vision goggles, allowing them to see each other and the monsters in this almost pitch-black environment.
Although the greenskins are stronger than ordinary humans in the dark and can barely make out outlines, they cannot detect themselves without other assistance, unless there is light or they move significantly.
I was badly injured when I fell, but at least there aren't any exposed wounds.
One soldier was not so lucky; he broke his leg when he fell.
But this loyal soldier gritted his teeth and didn't utter a single groan of pain.
Even though they endured it with great difficulty, the smell of blood seeping from their wounds still wafted out, instantly attracting the attention of the green-skinned creatures.
The monsters twitched their noses, following the scent of blood, and slowly approached them.
"grown ups."
The soldier with the missing leg trembled uncontrollably, but what he said was not a plea for help, but his last words.
"My lord, my name is Mira Novich. Please tell my girlfriend that I fought to the last moment for Hive City and for the Empire."
Luo Ning instantly understood what he was going to do and was about to speak to stop him when the soldier struggled to his feet.
He drew his combat dagger from his waist and charged towards the approaching green-skinned horde with a roar.
As soon as the soldier shouted, all the green-skinned soldiers around him instantly turned around and swarmed towards him like madmen.
He fought with all his might, wielding his sword, but two fists were no match for four hands, and he was quickly overwhelmed by the green-skinned men.
The valiant charge ended in heart-wrenching screams, yet even in this state, he continued to use his life to draw the attention of more Greenskins.
"Sir! It's time to go!"
Another soldier grabbed Ronin's arm and began moving him toward the exit.
Luo Ning gritted his teeth, suppressing the bitterness in his heart, and sprinted with the soldiers.
They hadn't run far when a deafening explosion came from behind them.
In his final moments, the soldier pulled the pin on a grenade, ending his life in the most heroic and loyal way.
But the group had no time to mourn the soldier.
The explosion had attracted even more green-skinned people.
They couldn't afford to waste a single second; they had to escape as fast as they could.
Luo Ning counted the soldiers; there were only four left with him, but their equipment was incomplete. Only one soldier still had a rifle, the other two had pistols, and the last soldier had to carry a field knife to prepare for the enemy.
Luo Ning's own situation wasn't much better.
When he fell, his rifle was long gone, and he only had a specially made laser pistol and a sanctified alloy dagger on him as self-defense weapons.
There was no time to worry about equipment; everyone had only one thought:
Get out of here as soon as possible.
The group rushed out of the narrow tunnel and arrived at an open space, where a large underground plaza filled with torches stood before them.
In the square, a group of green-skinned boys were wrestling together. Two of them were particularly strong, and their fighting became more and more ferocious, with their physiques even subtly changing.
Luo Ning led his soldiers, taking advantage of the Greenskins' focus on their infighting, and quietly circled around in the shadows.
He took the initiative to walk to the front of the line. Although his body had not undergone any enhancement or received formal soldier training, he was more skilled than these professional soldiers in terms of stealth and assassination.
If they encounter a greenskin on lookout duty, only he can guarantee to take them out silently without revealing his whereabouts.
The soldiers instinctively obeyed orders, quickly forming a defensive formation behind him to protect his rear and sides, allowing him to stealthily advance without any worries.
The group crossed the square without incident and entered the next passage.
This passage was clearly wider than the previous one, greatly increasing their speed of progress.
But as soon as they turned a corner, Luo Ning immediately raised his hand and pressed down on the soldiers behind him, signaling everyone to crouch down and take cover, keeping a close eye on what was ahead.
In the middle of the passage sat a large, green-skinned man.
It was happily playing with the treasure its underlings had presented it to it: a giant axe pieced together from scrap metal, looking dilapidated, but Ronin had no doubt about its destructive power in the hands of this big guy.
Luo Ning carefully scanned his surroundings to make sure there were no other green-skinned creatures before lowering his body and slowly touching them.
The soldiers behind him simultaneously raised their guns, their sights locked firmly on the big guy's head.
If Ronin's assassination attempt fails, they will open fire immediately. Even if the gunshots attract the entire Greenskins, they will not allow Ronin to be in any danger.
But they clearly underestimated Ronin's abilities.
Luo Ning moved with light steps, making no sound, and silently circled behind the big guy. He drew the sanctified dagger from his waist and plunged it into the alien's neck.
The green-skinned giant didn't even utter a sound before his massive body collapsed straight down.
But just then, another big guy walked out from the other end of the passage!
This one was larger and wore simple iron armor; it seemed to have come to fight its companions for dominance.
It walked in, only to see the corpse of its companion on the ground. It froze on the spot, looking around blankly.
But it didn't realize that Luo Ning had already used the blind spot of the stone pillar to get behind it and into its blind spot.
This big guy was wearing iron armor and was standing upright, so it was impossible for him to kill him with a single sword strike like before.
Luo Ning made a quick decision, changed his attack method, gripped his dagger tightly, and severed the tendons in its two feet.
The sanctified alloy dagger was incredibly sharp. Before the big guy could even react, his legs gave way and he collapsed to the ground, howling in pain.
Taking advantage of its immobility on the ground, Luo Ning plunged the dagger into its throat without hesitation.
The painful howl instantly turned into a muffled gurgling sound in its throat. It clutched its neck, stared intently at Luo Ning, twitched a few times, and then completely stopped breathing.
After taking care of the two big guys, Luo Ning carefully observed his surroundings for a long time to make sure there were no other greens lying in ambush before waving to the soldiers behind him, signaling them to follow.
No one knows how long it will take to leave this place, but everyone knows that this path to survival is extremely dangerous.
But just then, cheers and furious roars erupted from the passage behind them, carried by the green-skinned soldiers.
The battle with the green-skinned kid is over. The roar that came from it was incredibly powerful, something that no ordinary green-skinned kid could possess!
The commotion was rapidly approaching Luo Ning and his group!
