Chapter 3 Gathering Information

Yang Ping'an gathered his thoughts, picked up the scalding hot cup, and channeled his magic power to dissipate the heat from the tea. In no time, the tea became lukewarm.

The black tea in the cup was clear and bright, with a high-pitched aroma. Yang Ping'an took a sip of the tea; the taste was mellow, sweet, and refreshing, with a lingering aftertaste.

Although the new tea at this inn was not as fine as the top-quality black tea that Yang Ping'an usually drank, it still had a unique flavor.

Yang Ping'an put down his teacup, picked up his bowl and chopsticks, and began to eat his lunch. He was multitasking, gathering useful information while eating.

In the inn's lobby, the guests were laughing and chatting. Yang Ping'an was intrigued; this was the first time he had ever eaten in such a lively environment since his transmigration.

While Yang Ping'an was enjoying his meal, things were clearly not as relaxed at the Yang residence on the other side.

At noon, the Yang family began preparing for their afternoon nap. Old Master Yang put down his work and prepared to have lunch with his two grandsons, whom he favored.

To everyone's surprise, before Old Master Yang even reached the hall, he saw the Yang family steward leading Yang Yitan hurriedly toward him, looking anxious.

"Grandpa, Grandpa, Ping An has gone out to travel!" Yang Yi sighed, holding up a letter.

"What? That little brat dared to do this!" Old Master Yang was stunned for a moment, his third eye opened and closed, and then he roared in anger.

On one hand, Grandpa Yang was genuinely angry at Yang Ping'an for his audacity in leaving without saying goodbye. On the other hand, he was also concerned about Yang Ping'an's safety. How could he feel at ease leaving a six-year-old child alone out there?

Old Master Yang quickly approached Yang Yitan, and even unconsciously used his magic to snatch the letter from Yang Yitan's hand.

"Steward Yang, go find the family guards and order them to set off immediately to secretly search for the Second Young Master through family channels and bring him back to me." After reading the message on the letter, Old Master Yang calmed himself down and handed the family head token to Steward Yang.

"Yes, sir!" Butler Yang took the token and turned to head towards the family guard's quarters.

"Grandpa, Ping An is always calm and has great magical powers. He will return safely."

"I think Ping An must have had some unspeakable reasons for leaving quietly. Please don't be angry," Yang Yi sighed, looking at Old Master Yang's arrangements, and felt a little relieved, making excuses for Yang Ping An.

"Hmph, he knows what's good for him? Has some unspeakable reason? I think that little brat has grown too big for his britches." Old Master Yang thought of Yang Ping'an's extraordinary magical power and his secret departure from home, and couldn't help but snort coldly, his face showing displeasure.

"Are you also trying to sneak away? From today onwards, you will have to practice in front of me every day." Old Master Yang suddenly thought of his eldest grandson, whose magical powers were also extraordinary. He couldn't let this grandson slip away from his sight again.

"Ah! Yes." Yang Yi sighed dejectedly. He had originally wanted to find an excuse for Yang Ping'an, but unexpectedly he had gotten himself into trouble. He could only tell Yang Ping'an to pray for good luck.

……

After finishing his lunch, Yang Ping'an picked up his keys, called over the waiter, and prepared to inquire about the situation in the Beech Forest.

Yang Ping'an stepped onto the third floor, pushed open the door to room number two, and went inside. A large wooden bed occupied one corner of the room, a mahogany desk and two wooden chairs of the same material were placed by the window, a screen painted with a landscape painting separated the room from the door, and there was a double-headed bronze candlestick on the desk.

The room was simply decorated and very clean, showing that the innkeeper had taken the time to clean it.

Yang Ping'an was quite satisfied with the service at this inn while traveling.

"Young master, is there anything I can do for you?" The waiter pulled out a mahogany chair and invited Yang Ping'an to sit down.

"Has anything major happened in town recently? I've heard there's a misty forest outside the city. Do you know anything about it?" Yang Ping'an placed a piece of silver on the table.

"Ah, young master, your information network is truly impressive. A few days ago, the Beech Forest was shrouded in a thick fog that appeared out of nowhere. The city lord's mansion sent people into the forest to investigate, but the Taoist priest they sent never returned."

"Later, the deputy city lord led a team of Taoist priests to the forest to search for the missing priest and investigate the source of the dense fog. They also suffered heavy losses. Only one Taoist priest, who was seriously injured and on the verge of death, managed to escape from the forest and was rescued." The waiter stared intently at the silver on the table, his mouth watering.

"After being rescued, the Taoist priest struggled to leave a message before falling unconscious. From him, we learned about the situation in the Beech Forest. A large number of small demons had emerged in the forest, as well as three man-eating demon kings: a snake demon, a centipede monster, and a spider demon."

"I've heard that the snake demon is dozens of meters long. With a flick of its tail, it can snap a giant tree as thick as three people could hug in half. The centipede monster is even longer than the snake demon, with a thousand arms and legs, impervious to swords and spears. It rampages through the forest, and no one can withstand its attacks. The spider demon is the smallest, but it's still the size of three millstones. It's the most cunning, skilled at ambushes, and many reconnaissance teams have been hunted down by it." The waiter described the demons vividly, gesticulating wildly, trying his best to portray their terrifying nature.

"Da, da, da."

"Is there any other information?" Yang Pingan tapped the table a few times with his index finger knuckle.

"That's right, young master. You know, the guards of the city lord's mansion are my friends. He told me some secrets of the Beech Forest!" The waiter looked at Yang Ping'an's expression and whispered to him.

"Here, this is your reward." Yang Ping'an picked up the loose silver on the table and tossed it to the waiter.

"Hehe, thank you for the generous gift, young master!"

"I heard from my friend that some treasure has appeared in the Beech Forest that can awaken the intelligence of demons and accelerate their cultivation. This has attracted many demons in the Beech Forest to fight over it. The three demon kings even fought fiercely. The spider demon was besieged by the other two demon kings and was seriously injured."

"The city lord of Jinglong Town has already sent a request for help to the Yiqi Dao Alliance. We are preparing to wait for the experts from the Yiqi Dao Alliance to come and enter the Beech Forest again to compete for that treasure. We must not let it fall into the hands of the demons." The waiter took the silver, beaming with joy. He no longer hesitated and told him everything he had heard, like beans pouring from a bamboo tube.

"Alright, you can go now." Yang Ping'an sorted out the conversation between the three Taoist priests and the information given by the waiter, pondering whether the unknown treasure was the opportunity he was looking for.

"Why."

"Young master, take my advice. You must not enter the Beech Forest lightly." The waiter responded, seemingly sensing Yang Ping'an's hesitation, and offered him some advice.

"Okay, I understand. You can go now." Yang Ping'an stood up and waved to the waiter to get back to work.

"My divine sense can only penetrate a few hundred meters into the Beech Forest. It seems there are things in the Beech Forest that can hinder the exploration of divine sense," Yang Ping'an thought to himself as he closed the door.

Yang Ping'an pondered the waiter's words and could roughly confirm that the unknown treasure in the Beech Forest was the opportunity he had for this trip.

However, the sudden and severe restriction of his divine sense made Yang Ping'an hesitate about whether to enter the Beech Forest within the dense fog.

However, when Yang Ping'an thought about his almost stagnant cultivation, the truth behind his parents' deaths, and Yang Yitan's tragic future, a firm belief ignited in his heart: he must constantly become stronger in order to achieve his goal.

Yang Ping'an was unaware of the spiritual senses of the other Taoists and demons within the dense fog, and they couldn't even project their consciousness outside their bodies. In comparison, his advantage was still significant.

"I must go and investigate myself! How can a cultivator be timid and hesitant!" After making up his mind to enter the Beech Forest, Yang Ping'an swept away his previous hesitation, cut off the distracting thoughts in his mind, and suddenly felt enlightened and relaxed.

After making his decision, Yang Ping'an returned to his wooden bed and began to meditate, trying to get enough rest before nightfall so that he could face various challenges after entering the Beech Forest.
