History Park: Starting with the Imjin War
Chapter 61 Conquest of Pyongyang
Han Shouyi looked at the young men and women of North Korea and felt a pang of pity.
These people had their wrists tied and were carrying wooden planks and sandbags on their shoulders.
The shameless Japanese soldiers hid behind them, pressing knives against their backs, forcing them to risk their lives to block the breach.
Someone slipped and fell into the snow and mud, and was immediately kicked up by a Japanese soldier.
The gunner could only watch helplessly as Han Shouyi waited for orders.
The tiger-squatting cannon is already set up.
The cannon muzzle was pressed against the wooden fence on the side of the wall; as soon as it fired...
Those young North Koreans by the wall are definitely not going to survive.
Han Shouyi's eye twitched.
"Lower the muzzle by half an inch."
The gunner was stunned.
"Commander Han, there are people over there."
"I saw it."
Han Shouyi gritted his teeth and said:
"Damn it, did I say we were going to blast people? Blow up the side fence!"
After he finished speaking, he turned around and roared:
"Firearms, hold them in place! Rattan shields, hold them back! No spears allowed! Anyone who stabs a Korean, I'll chop off their hand!"
The musket holes ahead lit up again.
boom!
The lead bullet struck the rattan shield, and the shield bearer groaned and half-knelt down.
Han Shouyi looked at Mo Qin.
"We can't get past this head-on."
Mochin looked toward the dark ditch on the right.
Kim Yoon-jik had mentioned this route before.
Go a little further to the right, and you can get directly behind the wall.
Although there may be hidden ditches and traps on the road, it won't cause too many deaths.
Kim Yoon-jik has already stepped forward.
"I'll lead the way."
North Korean veterans also stepped forward.
The North Korean boy was still following behind him, clutching a short knife in his hand, his face covered in ash.
Han Shouyi looked displeased upon seeing these people.
"Nonsense, keep this child."
The boy didn't understand and looked at Jin Yunzhi blankly.
Kim Yoon-jik cursed at him in Korean.
The boy shook his head frantically.
The North Korean veteran raised his hand, pressed down on the boy's shoulder, and said something in his native dialect.
The boy's eyes reddened, but he stood firm and did not back down.
Mochin glanced at them.
"Liu Gao".
Liu Gao lifted the rattan shield.
"exist."
"Come with me."
"middle!"
Han Shouyi said:
"You two go around to the other side, I'll cover them head-on. Gunners, listen up, don't let those bastards behind the hole raise their heads!"
Lin Jun suddenly spoke:
"Wait a moment."
She stared at the hole in the wall for a moment.
"The third one from the left and the second one from the right are the real gun muzzles, and the three in the middle are decoys. The real volley fire is in the bottom row."
Han Shouyi immediately cursed:
"Did you hear me? Hit the bottom row!"
The gunners started adjusting the guns again.
Yan Qi squatted in the corner, her wrist still aching terribly.
He shot fewer arrows this time, not because he couldn't shoot, but because he had to carefully calculate each arrow.
Watching the sequence in which the fuses behind the wall lit up, he suddenly said:
"There's someone in charge there."
Mr. Lin asked:
"where?"
"The fourth hole from the bottom right. He always moves first, and then the gun is raised later."
Upon hearing this, Yan Qi raised his bow.
He flicked his wrist, paused for a moment, and waited for the person to appear for the third time.
As soon as the fuse was lit, Yan Qi loosened the string.
The arrow slipped through the gaps in the rattan shield, passed through the smoke, and embedded itself in the fourth hole on the lower right.
A muffled groan came from behind the wall.
The next volley of musket fire was a beat too late.
Han Shouyi immediately roared:
"Now! Press down!!!"
Firearms were unleashed.
The tiger-squatting cannon also went off.
boom!
The cannonball was fired close to the side wooden fence, which was half lifted up, the sandbags collapsed, and a small gap was exposed on the side of the wall.
Mo Qin, Liu Gao, Jin Yunzhi, the North Korean veteran, and the boy had already crawled into the dark ditch on the right.
The ditch is very narrow.
The base of the wall was covered with broken ice, mud, broken tiles, and scattered barbed wire.
Kim Yoon-ji walked ahead, occasionally squatting down to touch the ground.
"You can't step on this."
"Go around it."
"Lower your head."
He reminded the veteran in rapid Korean, and then reminded Mo Chin in Chinese.
The boy followed behind the North Korean veteran, breathing heavily, but he didn't complain of being tired.
Suddenly, Japanese was heard from ahead.
Two Japanese soldiers were guarding the exit of the ditch.
One musketeer, one pikeman.
Just as Liu Gao was about to rush forward, Mo Qin swiftly grabbed him.
Mochin raised his white wax spear and began picking at the broken tiles on the ground.
Broken tiles flew out.
Upon hearing the sound, the musketeer instinctively turned his head.
Mo Qin rushed to him, smashed the butt of the gun into his hand, and pierced his throat with the tip.
Before the spearmen could react, Liu Gao charged forward at an angle.
Once the rattan shield was removed, the short spear slid away.
Liu Gao also learned to use his knee to brace against the opponent's thigh, and the short knife pierced through the rattan shield from below.
The effect is good.
Liu Gao drew his sword and grinned.
"This thing is much better than a door panel."
Nodding in approval, Mo Qin looked behind the wall.
That's another small courtyard.
A dozen or so musketeers were squatting in three rows behind the holes. The front row had just finished firing their guns, the second row was raising their guns, and the third row was loading the powder.
Several Japanese soldiers nearby forced the young Korean men to carry sandbags to block the breach at knifepoint.
There are a few more players.
A chubby Japanese player stood at the back, around twenty-five or twenty-six years old, wearing round-framed glasses, his face covered in sweat, his armor bulging out of his stomach.
His lips were pale, and he held a short knife in his hand, but he didn't slash forward.
There was also a tall, thin South Korean player next to him, wearing a Japanese faction badge, who was using broken Japanese to direct the Japanese soldiers to push the young men of Korea forward.
A young North Korean man fell down, and a South Korean player went up and kicked him.
The fat player was stunned and shouted in Chinese:
"Hey! You're Korean, aren't you? How can you treat your fellow countrymen so cruelly?"
The South Korean player turned around, his face grim.
"Compatriots?"
He scoffed.
"What kind of compatriots are they? Just a bunch of natives."
"And you, you piece of Reiwa trash, what are you pretending to be kind for? You're utterly useless, it's really unlucky to be teamed up with you!"
The fat player lowered his head; he was probably one of the very few Japanese soldiers who still had a conscience.
Korean players shouted in Japanese again:
"Block it! If you don't block it, kill them!"
Upon hearing this, Mochin could not wait any longer.
"Liu Gao, protect people."
"middle!"
Mochin charged through the hidden ditch exit and into the wall.
As soon as the first musketeer raised his gun, Mochin's spear tip flicked up from below the barrel, deflecting the muzzle.
The musket fired, and the lead bullet embedded itself in the wall.
Mochin's gun butt struck the musketeer in the chest, sending him flying backward.
The second musketeer drew his sword immediately.
Mochin moved closer, gripping the white wax spear with a short grip, the tip pointing at his throat.
A third Japanese soldier rushed in from the side. Mochin didn't turn around; he swept his rifle barrel across and broke the soldier's knee.
Liu Gao, with a rattan shield on his head, charged toward the bound hostage.
The Japanese soldiers raised their swords as if to cut the hostages' necks.
This time, Liu Gao did not charge straight at the enemy.
The rattan shield was disarmed at an angle, and the blade slid to the side.
He pressed his left shoulder against the Japanese soldier's arm, the edge of his shield wedging the soldier's arm, and his short sword plunged into the soldier's abdomen.
"Get down!"
Kim Yoon-jik shouted in Korean.
"Get down! Roll towards the Ming army!"
A North Korean veteran rushed forward and cut the rope binding a young man's wrist.
The boy rushed over and cut the rope with his dagger.
His hands were trembling the whole time, and he cut very slowly.
A Japanese soldier charged at him from behind.
The North Korean veteran turned to try and block him, but it was too late.
The boy picked up a wooden stick from the ground and, with practiced ease, smashed it into the knee of a Japanese soldier.
The Japanese soldier's body swayed.
Mochin's spear tip pierced through the throat of the Japanese soldier from the side, pinning him to the wall.
The boy stood there, stunned.
The North Korean veteran grabbed him by the back of his collar, dragged him behind him, and cursed.
On the other side, a young North Korean man was shot and fell to the ground, blood gushing from his chest.
He was still breathing.
He reached out and grabbed the Japanese soldier's calf tightly.
The Japanese soldier tried to kick him, but couldn't get away.
Seeing the opening, Mochin stepped forward and shot him in the throat.
The captured Japanese soldiers fell to the ground.
The young North Korean man looked up at Mochin, his lips moved, but no sound came out.
Jin Yun rushed over to help him.
The young man simply loosened his grip and pushed Jin Yunzhi outwards.
The meaning is very clear.
Leave me alone.
Save others.
Kim Yoon-jik's eyes reddened, and he turned around to continue shouting:
"Roll to the left! Roll to the left! Lie down! Don't stand up!"
From the front, Han Shouyi saw the chaos behind the wall and immediately roared:
"gunner!"
The tiger-squatting cannon was pressed down again.
Lin Jun shouted loudly:
"The hostages have been released!"
Han Shouyi's eyes lit up.
"boom!"
boom!
The tiger crouching cannon fired at the wooden frame on the side wall.
The second honeycomb wall collapsed in half, and the clods of earth, wooden frame, and musket holes all crumbled together.
The Ming army advanced from the front.
The shield bearers were in front, their spears thrusting out from the gaps in the shields, while the firearm bearers covered the remaining holes.
The second wall has finally been breached.
Several messages popped up in the channel.
[The Greatest Affection in the Ming Dynasty: The person has been rescued! They've really been rescued!]
[Ancestral Iron Pot Stew with Japanese Devils: The Nine-Headed Bird is truly Zhao Yun this time!]
[Don't mess with me, you tough guy from Liaodong: Who says Zhao Yun never fought against a wall of muskets? He did!]
[Japanese workers: Where's the team leader? Where's Captain Kito?]
[Oden without broth: Don't ask anymore, the captain's gone!]
[Osaka Takeru Satoh: ...He's so handsome, I really want to take a picture with him and get a stamp.]
This last one is probably unlikely, since this isn't Shibuya, Japan.
The fat player was still standing behind the wall, his short knife falling to the ground, surrendering without resistance.
Upon seeing the wall break, the South Korean player turned and fled.
Jin Yun took two steps to catch up, but Lin Jun stopped him.
"Don't chase him, he's running down the path."
No sooner had Lin Jun finished speaking than the Korean player rushed into a side alley and was blocked by a collapsed wooden fence. A Japanese soldier behind him, annoyed that he was in the way, stabbed him in the back with a knife.
The South Korean player's eyes widened.
He died before he could utter a second sentence.
Mochin didn't even look at him.
He turned around and helped the bound North Korean youth to his feet.
The man's legs went weak and he couldn't stand.
Liu Gao used a rattan shield to block their way and whispered:
"Don't be afraid, I'll protect you."
Nanbing Teng, the shield bearer, caught up from behind and glanced at Liu Gao.
"This time it looks more like it."
Liu Gao was panting.
"Am I able to turn now?"
The shield bearer cursed:
"Don't be so conceited. You owe me a meal."
Liu Gao nodded hurriedly.
"We'll eat after this battle. I have ten taels of silver; I'll treat you to two meals."
The rattan shield user pressed the rattan shield in his hand down.
"Don't raise your shield so high. If the musket fires at the top edge, it'll shake your wrist."
Liu Gao immediately lowered his head by an inch.
The rattan shield bearer cursed again:
"I'm not telling you to be a turtle. Eyes out, watch the knife, watch the feet, watch the person's shoulder. The moment the shoulder moves, the knife is coming."
Liu Gao nodded like a chick pecking at rice.
"Yes."
Han Shouyi walked up to the hostages who had been rescued.
An elderly North Korean woman suddenly appeared out of nowhere, grabbed his sleeve, and started crying.
She spoke Korean, which Han Shouyi couldn't understand a word of.
Han Shouyi stopped there, faced with the current situation.
He raised his hand, but didn't know where to put it.
In the end, he could only manage to utter one sentence:
"Kim Yoon-jik!"
Kim Yoon-ji rushed over.
Han Shouyi slowly pulled his sleeve out of the old woman's hand, turned around and called out:
"Armorymen, step forward! What are you standing there for? We're not done yet!"
He walked very fast.
It was as if they were afraid that if they delayed even a moment longer, they wouldn't know what to do.
The central army outside the city.
Li Rusong showed no joy after hearing the military report coming from the north wall.
"The second wall has breached?"
"It's broken."
"Where are the hostages?"
Most of the victims have been rescued. The casualties have not yet been cleared.
Li Rusong looked at Pyongyang.
The flames from the north had already encroached into the city, and the smoke was even thicker in the direction of Zhongjie Street.
The cannon fire from the west grew increasingly urgent, while drums and bugles sounded continuously from the south.
The adjutant beside him pointed to the map and said:
"The Zu Chengxun troops in the south of the city have made a feigned move, and a detachment of Japanese soldiers has been dispatched there."
"What about the west side?"
"Yang Yuan and Li Rubai are pressing down on the city walls. The Japanese soldiers are tied down."
"Mudan Peak?"
"Wu Youji's side is still holding on to the death, and the Japanese soldiers dare not withdraw completely."
Li Rusong nodded.
"What about the east side?"
"There are still few enemies to the east."
Li Rusong remained silent.
The fact that there are few enemies on the east side is not because Xiao west doesn't value the east gate.
It's because Xiaoxi also knows that it's the last way.
At that moment, a musket rang out very close from inside the city.
Li Rusong's mount suddenly neighed, its front legs buckled, and the whole horse fell heavily to the ground.
The guards on either side were greatly alarmed.
"General!"
Li Rusong rolled off the side of the horse, his shoulder hitting the ground, but he managed to get up.
A lead bullet struck the horse in the chest.
Li Rusong glanced at it, but his expression remained unchanged.
"Change horses."
The guard was taken aback.
Li Rusong said coldly:
"I say, change horses."
Soon another horse was brought over.
Li Rusong mounted his horse and raised his hand to continue pointing east of the city.
"The gunners should move their pre-positioned guns outside the east gate. The cavalry should advance in two columns along the south bank of the Datong River, and they must not reveal their positions prematurely."
"yes!"
Li Rubai, who was standing next to him, had just returned from the west, and there was a noticeable dent in his helmet.
He took off his helmet and glanced at it.
"If it were even an inch off, Mother would lose a son."
Li Rusong glanced at him.
"If it's off-center, it means it's not the right time yet."
Li Rubai smiled and put his helmet back on.
"Then I'll go to the west."
Don't be greedy.
"Know."
Li Rusong looked towards the east of Pyongyang.
He thought it was a road.
Zhou Hu stood to the side and whispered, "..."
"It's actually the cage door."
Li Rusong did not deny it.
"The bird will only fly out if the cage door is open."
Zhou Hu looked at the firelight inside the city.
"What if Xiaoxi understands it?"
Li Rusong said:
"He will understand."
Zhou Hu was taken aback.
Li Rusong's gaze remained fixed on the East Gate.
Even if you understand, you still have to leave.
Inside the city, the Japanese command post.
Konishi Yukinaga stood in front of a map.
The edges of the map have been burned black by the sparks.
One defeat after another was reported.
"The breach in the north wall is now secure."
"The second line of firearms on Zhongjie Street has fallen."
"Cang'ao Back Street has fallen."
"The Korean people led the way for the Ming army."
"Ximen Yangyuan and Li Rubai are launching a very aggressive attack."
"North Korean flags have appeared to the south, suggesting a possible North Korean counterattack."
"Ginji Kito has gone missing."
"The morale of the advance team players collapsed, and many fled."
"The members of the Qingliu Society have disappeared."
Xiao west didn't scold him.
There was no slamming of the table.
He was just looking at the map.
It was burning on three sides.
The east side, however, was very quiet.
It's too quiet.
A Japanese general whispered:
"My lord, the Ming army is small in the east."
Xiao west looked up.
"It's not a small amount."
The Japanese general dared not speak.
Xiao west reached out and pointed to the Datong River outside the East Gate.
"That was left to me by Li Rusong."
There was silence in the room.
Zongyizhi whispered:
"My lord, if it is a trap, you must not escape."
Matsuura Jinxin asked:
"Should we stay here and wait to be surrounded from three sides instead of leaving?"
Another Japanese general said:
"They can also retreat into the inner fortress and hold out for reinforcements."
Xiao west glanced at him.
"Where are the reinforcements?"
