History Park: Starting with the Imjin War
Chapter 62 Conquest of Pyongyang
The Japanese general was speechless on the spot.
Kuroda Nagamasa is not in Pyongyang.
There were no reinforcements from the direction of Wangjing that could immediately move north.
The city was running out of food and ammunition, and more than half of its ammunition had been used up. Fires were being extinguished one by one.
Korean civilians have begun to guide the Ming army.
If we continue to hold out, Pyongyang will not be a city, but a graveyard.
Xiao west closed his eyes; he saw through Li Rusong's thoughts.
But so what?
Seeing through something doesn't mean you can protect it.
This is the most painful part.
Mochin led his team to continue advancing towards the north wall.
After the second wall was breached, the Japanese resistance began to weaken.
Many Japanese soldiers have retreated towards the east gate, leaving behind mostly veteran soldiers covering the rear and players who have been forced into a corner.
Lin Jun stood at the entrance of an alley, listening to the distant drums and bugles.
"They're dragging it out."
Han Shouyi asked:
"What are you dragging?"
"time."
Lin Jun looked eastward, "Let's drag it out until dark."
"You mean Xiaoxi is going to run away?"
"Yes, the one on the east side has never been killed."
Lin Jun said, "Li Shuai deliberately left a way to escape."
Han Shouyi understood.
He didn't urge the troops to chase after the enemy again, but only gave the following order:
"Hold your ground at Zhongjie! Don't be greedy! Firearmsmen hold down the rooftops, rattan shields protect the wounded, and spearmen block the alleyway!"
Yan Qi was squatting on the street corner when Feng Chihou walked up to him at some point and handed him a bag of arrows.
Yan Qi looked up.
Scout Feng only said:
"Take it."
Yan Qi took it, pulled out a gun from the bag, nocked it, and waited a long time before shooting it.
On a distant rooftop, a Japanese soldier who was about to light a fire pot fell to the ground.
Feng the Scout looked at him.
"Can your hands still be used?"
Yan Qi said:
"It's still possible."
Feng the Scout nodded.
"Take it easy, don't overdo it."
Yan Qi nodded.
Han Shouyi was still cursing at the alley entrance when a commotion arose behind him.
Someone shouted:
"Lord Shen? What brings him here?"
Mo Qin turned around and saw Shen Weijing entering the city under the protection of a group of Ming soldiers.
He wore no armor, only a dusty official robe with an old cloak over it.
Two Ming soldiers guarded him, while the instructor and the monkey did not follow; perhaps they had also gone to join the battle.
He held a small flag in his hand to help the Korean people recognize that he was not a Japanese soldier.
He originally came to appease the people and rally the survivors.
He suddenly stopped as he walked past a half-collapsed house.
There seems to be someone inside.
The door was half collapsed, and the room was pitch black.
Shen Weijing shouted in Korean:
Is anyone inside?
no answer.
There was only a very faint dragging sound.
The guard wanted to go in first.
Shen Weijing raised his hand to stop him.
"I'll do it."
He took two steps forward.
A woman came out of the house.
She gripped her neck tightly with both hands.
It's not a bruise from being covered up.
It's about supporting them!
Her neck was almost severed, with only a layer of skin and flesh still connecting it.
With each step he took, blood trickled down between his fingers.
Her face was frighteningly pale, but her eyes were still open, and she was trying to look at Shen Weijing.
There was no pleading in his eyes for his life.
She already knew she wouldn't survive.
She seemed to be asking for something else.
The nightmarish scene left Shen Weijing frozen at the doorway.
He had seen dead people.
I've seen people burned to death, starved to death, and frozen to death.
But at this moment, he was still stunned.
Behind the woman, in the corner of the room, was a little girl.
About six years old.
She huddled behind a pile of tattered straw mats, wearing little clothes so dirty their color was indistinguishable.
She saw Shen Weijing and tried to call out, but when she opened her mouth, only a muffled sound came out.
"Ah... Ba..."
"Ha...ba..."
Shen Weijing then noticed that half of the girl's tongue had been cut off.
The little girl tried to crawl toward the woman, but stopped after a couple of steps, afraid of knocking her over.
The woman looked at Shen Weijing.
Both hands were still supporting her neck....
Shen Weijing's lips moved slightly.
No sound.
Then he knelt down.
It's not about kneeling before women.
It's about making your eyes level with hers.
He spoke in Korean:
"rest assured."
His voice was trembling.
"From now on, I will be her father."
The light in the woman's eyes flickered.
Shen Weijing repeated it again:
"Don't worry. I'll take care of her. I'll take her away."
The woman's lips moved.
She wanted to speak.
Blood was flowing from the corner of his mouth.
She struggled to squeeze out two indistinct sounds: "Eun-in."
It sounds like someone is talking about a benefactor.
It's like dividing the benefactor between two people.
To Shen Weijing.
Also for the child who is still alive.
"Hmm... Tiger..."
With tears streaming down her face, she slowly released her hands.
Head drooping.
It never lifted up again.
Shen Weijing knelt there, tears streaming down his face.
The guards were stunned.
The Ming soldiers outside also stopped.
No one spoke.
The little girl crawled to the woman's side, opened her mouth to call out "Mother," but could only utter broken sounds.
"Ah...ah..."
Shen Weijing reached out and picked her up.
The little girl struggled at first, then grabbed his clothes and held on tightly.
Shen Weijing carried her out of the house.
A gust of cold wind outside seemed to bring him back to his senses.
He said to the guard:
"Make a note of this household."
The guard nodded, his eyes red.
Shen Weijing then said:
"Find someone to take her body. Don't let her lie here."
After he finished speaking, he carried the little girl and walked towards the rear of the Ming army.
The little girl nestled in his arms, still unable to utter a complete sound.
Shen Weijing looked down at her; tears were still on her face.
"Don't be afraid."
He gently pressed his head against it and said.
"Father is here."
Even Han Shouyi closed his eyes and cursed when he saw the woman.
"brute."
The central army outside the city.
News of the breach in the second wall reached Li Rusong.
"Is Zhongjie open now?"
"Yes. Mo Qin's troops and Han Shouyi have stabilized Zhongjie and are no longer greedily advancing."
Li Rusong looked at the messenger.
Where is Shen Weijing?
"They have entered the city to comfort the people."
Li Rusong nodded.
"Tell him to be careful. The city isn't clean yet."
Zhou Hu asked:
"General, should we continue to block the east gate with the north wall?"
Li Rusong looked to the east.
"No rush."
"If we keep pressuring him, Xiaoxi will become confused. If we don't press him now, he'll figure it out on his own."
Zhou Hu remained silent for a moment.
"If he understands, he should leave."
"right."
Li Rusong said:
"Continue to move the artillery positions. Cavalry must not be exposed. Cover all the torches outside the east gate."
The messenger obeyed and left.
Li Rusong added another sentence:
"Tell all teams that no chasing is allowed within the city. Anyone who tries to gain merit by chasing and scattering the enemy will be dealt with according to military law."
When this news reached the front lines, Han Shouyi was cursing someone at the alley entrance.
"Did you hear me? No chasing! Commander Li said anyone who gets separated from the group will be court-martialed!"
Liu Gao muttered to himself:
"I didn't chase him."
Nan Hyo-teng glanced at him.
I think you want to pursue her.
"I'll just think about it."
Lin Jun looked to the east.
The torches grew denser and denser.
The Japanese army was retreating, and Japanese troops began to gather at the East Gate.
She whispered:
"Xiaoxi is about to move."
At the other alley entrance, Miyamoto Musashi stood on the edge of a rooftop.
Fuma Kotaro stood beside him, his face still covered by a black cloth, twirling a thin fuse in his hand.
As soon as the two appeared, Mo Qin looked up and noticed them.
Miyamoto didn't draw his sword; he simply looked at Mo Qin and shouted:
See you at the amusement park.
Mochin remained silent.
Miyamoto continued:
"Our stay is up."
He glanced at Fengmo to the side.
The Wind Demon remained silent.
Miyamoto then said:
"Give a message to Old Ghost."
"Next time we fight, I'll take his life!"
After saying that, he turned and left.
The wind demon let out a strange cry and disappeared behind the roof with Miyamoto.
Lin Jun stared intently in the direction where the two had disappeared, her beautiful eyes narrowed.
"They're gone?"
Mo Qin said:
"Um."
Lin Jundao:
"They must have used props to enter the world, and they stayed there for a period of time."
Liu Gao didn't understand.
"What are the props?"
No one explained.
Mochin switched the gun to his left hand and shook his right wrist, which had been numb from the musket fire.
"Alright."
"So I don't have to be distracted by him."
A glimpse of short, golden hair flashed by in the shadows of a wall some distance to the east.
The blonde woman, carrying the unconscious ghost's head, stood under the half-collapsed eaves and glanced at the firelight inside the city.
He lifted the ghost head off his shoulder, gave it another tug, and then stepped onto the roof ridge and headed east.
Someone posted a message in the channel.
[Japanese working class: Captain Kito has really disappeared.]
[I don't want to be cannon fodder: Miyamoto is gone too.]
[The Great Ming's Deepest Affection: What's the point of fighting then? Did the high-end combat force run away?]
[Ancestral Iron Pot Stew with Japanese Pirates: Those Japanese pirates and their crooked backsides, don't even think about running away! Grandpa's going to take your heads!]
The Japanese command post inside the city.
Konishi Yukinaga looked at the map for the third time.
This time, there aren't many points left to defend on the map.
The north wall is broken.
Zhongjie Street is broken.
The west is pressing in.
The south is affected.
The east gate opened.
All military reports point to the same answer.
Yoshitomo stood to the side:
"Sir, if we don't leave now, we won't be able to leave."
Songpu Town Channel:
"Leave the rearguard behind, and the main force will retreat through the east gate. We can still take some with us."
Some people are unwilling to accept this.
"Pyongyang has been abandoned just like that?"
Xiao west looked at that person.
"Do you have another way?"
The man shut up.
Xiao west lost interest in looking at the map. She walked to the door and lifted the curtain.
A group of veterans stood in the courtyard.
The leader was a foot soldier general with gray hair and an old scar on his left cheek.
A was already blackened by the smoke and fire, and had a fresh wound on his chest, which he covered with a cloth.
He knelt down:
"My lord, I'll stay."
Xiao west looked at him.
"You know what it means to stay."
"Know."
"You will die before nightfall."
The old soldier bowed his head.
"Then die in Pyongyang."
None of the Japanese generals inside the room spoke.
Xiao west looked at the veteran for a while, then took off a small inro from his waist.
It wasn't a valuable reward; it was just something he had carried with him for a long time.
He handed it to the veteran.
"If anyone makes it to the capital alive, give this to me."
The veteran accepted it with both hands.
"What if no one can survive?"
Konishi said:
"Then bury him here."
The veteran tucked the seal into his robes and kowtowed.
Xiao west turned around and asked again:
How many wounded soldiers are there?
Someone whispered a report:
"There are over three hundred who cannot walk. The number of those who can walk with assistance is unknown. The groups are scattered and cannot be counted in full."
Xiaoxi continued to ask:
"carriage?"
"no."
"stretcher?"
"That's not enough."
Xiaoxi fell silent for a moment.
Those who can walk will be assigned to different teams.
"We can't leave..."
Everyone in the room glanced up briefly, then quickly looked down again.
Xiaoxi's voice remained unchanged.
"Leave the medicine, leave the knife."
Someone wanted to speak, but in the end said nothing.
Konishi continued to issue orders:
"What gunpowder can't be taken away, burn it."
"Burn what you can't take with you."
"The banners have been lowered, and the torches have been reduced by half."
"No team is allowed to scatter. Anyone who scatters will be executed on the spot."
"The rear guard muskets are divided into three sections: one on North Street, one on Middle Street, and one inside the East Gate. Each section fires three rounds of muskets, then withdraws. Those that cannot withdraw are to make their own decisions."
Zongyizhi lowered his head.
"Yes."
Songpu Town letter asked:
"Where are the North Koreans?"
Xiao west glanced at him.
The room fell silent again.
They all knew what the question meant.
Many of the remaining Korean civilians in the city have begun to guide the Ming army.
If the Japanese army takes it away, it will be a burden.
Killing them all would slow down the retreat.
If left unchecked, it might give the Ming army more options.
Xiaoxi only said:
"in spite of."
Matsuura Shigenori was taken aback.
Konishi said:
"There's nothing we can do about it now."
This is not kindness.
They simply didn't have the energy left.
Before returning to the map, Konishi Yukinaga pulled down the small flag that had been planted in Pyongyang.
After it was removed, only an empty hole remained in the center of the map.
Looking at the empty space, he snapped the flag in two after a moment.
"Pass on the order."
Everyone knelt down.
Konishi said:
"All teams abandon the inner city and assemble at the east gate."
"Leave behind the rearguard musket team."
"Burn the grain, fodder, and gunpowder."
"No noise allowed."
"Do not scatter."
"Don't look back."
Xiao west walked out of the command post.
The area around the east gate was eerily quiet.
Xiao west knew that Li Rusong was waiting for him, but he had no choice.
After a moment of silence, he said in a muffled voice:
"Cross the river."
