Chapter 33 The Long Night
Chapter 33 The Long Night
"Sir, are you there?"
Inside a building, Ernie's voice rang out from outside the door.
The fear that had been on his face had subsided, and he continued to knock on the closed door.
After knocking for a while, there was still no response from inside, which made Erri pause in surprise.
"Could it be inside?" The thought flashed through his mind.
Although they hadn't spent much time together, Adir had always shown excellent manners in their previous interactions, so there was no reason for him to ignore him if they were inside the house now.
He looked up at the gradually darkening sky inside the house, forcibly suppressing his anxiety as he stood at the door waiting. He didn't leave until it was almost completely dark, intending to come back and check on it later.
The sound of hurried footsteps echoed from the spot. After Erri left, Adir slowly walked out from a wooden house in the distance, watching the departing figure with a calm and indifferent expression on his face.
As night fell, the sky gradually darkened, and the surrounding world suddenly became quiet.
By this time, the surrounding residents had all fallen asleep. Only a few families remained awake, filled with anxiety and fear.
Inside a wooden house, several people paced anxiously in the hall, looking at the night outside with barely suppressed fear in their eyes.
At that moment, the door opened, and Erre's tall figure walked in, his face somewhat gloomy.
"How's it going? Have you found that knight?"
As soon as he entered the room, several people asked him the same question at the same time, their faces full of anxiety.
Looking at the anxious faces around him, Erley shook his head heavily, his face grim: "I went to the flat area in front of the village, but I couldn't find them."
"Damn it!" A middle-aged man on the other side gritted his teeth and said, "He must have abandoned us and run off with Raman and the others!"
"This guy wasted all the care we've given him these past few days. He's a damn foreigner! A completely useless coward!"
His face was contorted with rage, as if he were losing control. He stood there cursing and swearing, trying to vent his fear and anger.
After they finished speaking, the scene fell silent for a moment, and a sense of oppression arose from it.
Seeing this, Erley sighed, "Don't be like that, things may not be as bad as you think."
"That knight is a good man. Even if he were to leave, he would have remembered to remind us, instead of forgetting us like this."
At this point, he stood up and said to the people around him, "You all continue packing your things here. I'll go outside and check again. Maybe the other party has already returned to their residence."
After saying this, he opened the wooden door and walked out, his figure gradually disappearing into the darkness.
After walking a short distance, relying on his familiarity with the surroundings, he quickly arrived at the house where Adir lived again and kept knocking on the door with his right hand.
The crisp knocking sounds echoed around, sounding so abrupt in the otherwise silent environment.
I knocked on the door quietly for a while, but there was no response from inside.
He couldn't help but sigh, his heart filled with disappointment for a moment, and he was about to turn around and go back to his residence.
A chilling sensation suddenly crept up from behind him, startling him and making him realize something was wrong.
"It's too quiet!" The thought flashed through his mind.
It was late at night, and although the surroundings were quiet, there were still some faint chirping sounds from time to time.
But now, all those sounds have disappeared, and there is no other sound around him except for his own breathing and heartbeat.
"No, something's not right!" He was startled, and he faintly heard several soft breathing sounds coming from behind him.
A sense of horror suddenly surged into his heart. He turned around and looked behind him, almost fainting from fright at what he saw.
In the deep of night, several pale corpses stood silently behind him, their eyes gleaming with bloodlust and madness.
Ahhhhh! !! !!
A scream suddenly erupted from the spot, then quickly disappeared, so brief that it was almost an illusion.
"I'm too late..." In a distant corner, listening to the screams that erupted in the distance, Adir sighed and silently walked over.
With his keen eyesight, he could clearly see the scene even from a distance of more than ten meters.
In front of the house where he used to live, Errae's body lay silently on the ground, his face stiff and distorted, looking terrifying.
Around his corpse, several pale, humanoid monsters with blood on their faces were devouring the flesh of the body beneath them, almost tearing out their intestines.
Seemingly sensing Adir's presence, the humanoid monsters suddenly paused, then slowly stood up and turned their heads back.
These were several naked corpses, their clothes long since burned to charcoal, revealing their pale skin. As they looked at Adir approaching from afar, their eyes were filled with extreme bloodlust.
There are four in total.
Looking at the several somewhat familiar pale faces opposite him, Adir frowned, drew the sword from his waist with his right hand, and then swung it sharply.
In that instant, a white figure suddenly appeared in front of him, crashing into Adir's sword and being sent flying by Adir's blow.
A deep roar came from beside him, but Adir remained unfazed and kicked hard to the left.
A sudden, powerful force came from his feet, and a white figure fell to the ground.
"Agility is close to 4, similar to the one we encountered last time."
Sensing the speed of the corpse in front of him, Adir made a rough estimate in his mind, then thrust his sword into a corner and engaged in a fierce battle with the other two corpse spirits.
A gust of sword wind swept past, slashing hard at the shoulder of a corpse spirit and severing one of its arms.
But the next moment, granulation tissue began to grow at the wound. The corpse roared, picked up the arm from the ground and reattached it. It recovered in no time, which made Adir's eyelids twitch.
Compared to the various powerful monsters in the wild, these corpses are not actually that strong.
However, as a type of anomaly, they not only possess limitless stamina but also, to some extent, immortality, which is their most troublesome aspect. Without finding the right method to counter them, even those far stronger than themselves will eventually be slowly worn down and killed.
With that thought in mind, Adir channeled his life energy into the longsword in his hand.
As life energy enveloped it, the black longsword was slowly shrouded in a faint green hue, giving it a unique and sharp appearance.
Adir charged forward, and a strong gust of wind rose from the surrounding space as he moved rapidly, hurtling forward.
Before the corpses opposite could react, he had already rushed in front of them, slashing forward fiercely with his longsword.
Heavy slash!!
As the life seed within his body vibrated, the power of life energy erupted completely, unleashing the full potential of the Knight's Secret Technique.
