Chapter 99 EVA

"Senior brother, what happened just now? Why is it so noisy?"

As soon as Fingel left, Xia Mi and Su Xiaoqiang walked over together. They glanced at Ling and Nuonuo sitting on either side of them, and then pulled out chairs and sat down opposite Lu Mingfei.

"It's nothing, Fingel just needed some money and came to borrow some from me." Lu Mingfei looked at the two people who sat down and asked with some curiosity, "By the way, when did you two become so close? You even eat together in the cafeteria."

"There aren't that many reasons, we just happened to bump into each other at the cafeteria entrance," Xia Mi explained with a smile.

"Mingfei, you didn't actually lend it to him, did you?" Su Xiaoqiang frowned, her tone a little worried. "I heard that Senior Finger borrows money everywhere in the academy and doesn't pay it back. If you lend it to him, you probably won't get it back."

"It's alright, I have a way." Lu Mingfei looked very confident.

Xia Mi's eyes suddenly lit up, as if she had guessed something: "Senior brother, you didn't take out an online loan using your own phone, did you?"

"Yeah, what's wrong? You're short of money too? Then come borrow from me. I run a financial institution in Kassel. Since we're acquaintances, I'll give you the highest interest rate."

"Seriously? Why are acquaintances getting the highest interest rate? Shouldn't acquaintances get interest-free?" Su Xiaoqiang couldn't help but complain from the side.

"Yeah, senior brother, what kind of relationship do we have? Why would I need to borrow money? If I really need money, can't I just take yours? What's yours is mine anyway, isn't it?"

"Because it's easiest to make money off acquaintances," Lu Mingfei answered Su Xiaoqiang's question without hesitation. Then he looked at Xia Mi, "Who said what's mine is yours? Xia Mi, aren't you thinking too highly of yourself?"

Xia Mi was about to argue back when Nuonuo interrupted her, "Alright, alright, the food's here, let's eat first."

No sooner had Nuonuo finished speaking than a waiter pushing a food cart came to the table. The cart was piled high with food, which made the trainees around them gasp in amazement.

After a hearty meal, Lu Mingfei and the women left the cafeteria together.

"Junior brother, where are you planning to go next? Do you want your senior sister to show you around the campus?" Nuonuo tilted her head and smiled, asking first.

"Senior brother, I want to go to the swimming pool to play in the water, will you come with me?" Xia Mi made a different suggestion with a smile.

"Mingfei, I heard there's a wishing fountain in the academy that's really nice for taking pictures. Shall we go check it out together?" Su Xiaoqiang chimed in with her own idea.

Zero remained silent, simply standing quietly close to Lu Mingfei, her demeanor clearly indicating that she would follow him wherever he went.

Lu Mingfei raised his hand to silence the chatter, saying, "Stop for a minute. I heard there's a super AI in Kassel called Norma. I'm planning to go to the server room to check it out. If you're interested, you can come along. If not, you can go your separate ways."

"Huh? Why do you suddenly want to look into artificial intelligence?" Su Xiaoqiang asked, a little puzzled.

"Yeah, what's so interesting about a cold, lifeless machine? Senior brother, you go ahead. Senior Sister Su and I won't go," Xia Mi chimed in first.

"I'm not going either. We don't even have the privileges to get into the core server room, and even if we did, we wouldn't understand anything. It's too boring." Nono waved her hand, looking completely uninterested.

"Since none of you are going, let's split up," Lu Mingfei nodded.

Upon hearing this, the girls all turned and left. Only Xia Mi, as she turned around, secretly glanced at Lu Mingfei, her lips moving slightly as she made a silent mouth gesture.

Zero was the only one who didn't leave, remaining quietly close to Lu Mingfei. She noticed Xia Mi's subtle movements and looked up at Lu Mingfei. Lu Mingfei shrugged at her and said with a smile, "Let's go see what secrets this Kassel engine's heart holds."

"Norma, where is your server room? I'm planning to go take a look," Lu Mingfei asked, taking out his phone.

"Access verified. Hello Principal Lu Mingfei, I will guide you." Norma's calm and gentle female voice came from the phone.

Following the navigation, Lu Mingfei led Zero to the library in Kassel, where they found a hidden elevator in a corner and descended two hundred meters underground. Exiting the elevator, they found themselves in a dark corridor encased in thick metal plates. At the end of the corridor, a heavy mechanical door, resembling a fortress gate, stood before them, secured with several layers of complex locks.

But as soon as Lu Mingfei reached the door, before he could even raise his hand to touch it, the layers of spring locks clicked and popped open one after another. The heavy gate slid slowly to both sides along the guide rails, and cold white light from the machine room peeked out from the cracks in the door, as if it had been waiting for their arrival.

Upon entering, the two were immediately greeted by a vast, open cavity. Server arrays, reaching to the ceiling, stretched out in a dense, seemingly endless mass. Thick cables, like the tangled roots of an ancient tree, entangled the walls, while indicator lights flashed incessantly, extending through the gaps in the arrays into the darkness six stories below.

The server room was dimly lit, with most of the light coming from the cold white light leaking from the gaps in the servers, and red, green and blue indicator lights flashing on and off alternately. These faint lights wove a hazy net in the empty hall, and the whole space was covered with a layer of cold blue and green hues.

The room was filled with a deep, steady hum, like the calm breathing of a giant beast deep within, mixed with the whistling of the high-speed cooling fans, giving one a strange sense of immense energy surging within, both oppressive and full of tension. A faint static electricity lingered in the air, mixed with a barely perceptible smell of rust and ozone, coolly seeping into the nostrils.

"Principal Lu Mingfei, may I ask what specific needs you have for me today?" Norma's calm voice rang out softly in the empty hall.

Lu Mingfei slowly walked around, surveying the entire server room, before smiling and saying, "I was wondering why. With the current level of technology, we shouldn't be able to create a super artificial intelligence like yours. So you're a product created by combining a living consciousness as a blueprint with alchemy."

He paused, then continued, "Your original consciousness is still there, isn't it? If it still exists, come out and let me see you."

""

As Lu Mingfei finished speaking, the server room was silent for a few seconds. Then, the indicator lights in the entire hall suddenly began to flash synchronously, and a warm white spotlight suddenly fell from the dome above. A holographic projection slowly emerged from the beam of light. It was an Asian girl wearing a white silk dress, barefoot, quietly floating in the light. The edge of her dress was tinged with a faint fluorescent blue halo, as if she were looking through a layer of water. Her eyes were filled with an unyielding sadness.

Lu Mingfei sized her up, showing no surprise whatsoever, and calmly asked, "What's your name?"

The girl slightly bent her knees, lifted her skirt in a gesture of respect to him, and said in a soft and calm voice, "You can call me EVA."
