Chapter 106 Operation Begins

"Of course, Tony Stark is Howard Stark's biological son. Even without a paternity test, their identical playboy lifestyles in their youth are enough to determine their blood relation." Nick Fury looked at Salomon with suspicion. "Why are you asking this?"
"Oh, never mind then." Salomon shook his head. At least this news let him know that the world wasn't as chaotic as he thought. Another reason he asked the question was to annoy Nick Fury and make the guy doubt the accuracy of his intelligence—Salomon was known for holding grudges.
"This is just my research topic. Don't even think about asking what my research topic is; this is the second time, and I won't answer."
Ignoring Nick Fury's persistent questioning, he took out his phone and sent a text message. The message was earnest and detailed everything that had happened that day, leaving nothing out. He was explaining to Bayonetta why he hadn't come home that night. Part of the reason was to keep Bayonetta from worrying about his safety, but there were other reasons he couldn't explain. He only knew that if he didn't do this, he might not even have a place to sleep on the sofa.
He then sent another text message, this time to Luca. He told Luca about a major operation in Old Bridge, New Mexico the next day, and Salomon wanted Luca to report it, promising to provide him with some inside information—after all, the public would know about it during the Battle of New York anyway, and Salomon didn't mind Luca receiving an exclusive fee in advance. Of course, Salomon also promised to reimburse Luca for all his travel expenses, except for things like strip clubs and medical supplies. Salomon did this entirely because he didn't want the United States to have exclusive access to information about extraterrestrial life; he wanted the whole world to know that many greedy eyes were watching from beyond Earth.
As for the petty scheming of those politicians, he didn't even consider it. He wasn't even worried about any extreme environmental organizations or alien-friendly groups jumping out—after all, when the enemy came, these organizations wouldn't be able to stop the enemy's slaughter, and they weren't even qualified to be collaborators.
Luca replied quickly; he had already booked his flight and was ready to depart immediately. Salomon then contentedly looked up from his phone and slumped back into his seat.
Since the Sun Island incident in Vigrid, Luca had known very little about the magical world. Furthermore, with the bankruptcy of the Izawell Corporation and the Vigrid Order's financial woes, core followers were disbanding, leaving Luca with virtually no sources of information. Adding to this, Salomon had ordered Phoenix to save Luca's life, and the man now owed him a huge favor. Therefore, Luca couldn't refuse this potentially life-threatening report. Besides this, Luca sometimes investigated information about dark magic creatures on his own and reported it to Salomon.
This is a "win-win" partnership. It means Salomon wins twice.
The sorcerer also summoned Phoenix from Kamar-Taj. When Phoenix appeared in the office amidst a shower of sparks, Nick Fury nearly jumped out of his chair, but when he saw the large, golden-red bird holding a pen in one claw and scribbling on a piece of paper, he couldn't help but rub his eyes.
"If I'm not mistaken...it's writing poetry!" Nick Fury shouted. "But it's just a bird!"
"Phoenix is the world's greatest poet, even better than Shelley," Salomon waved his hand. "Only a very few people can hear him sing without getting lost, which saddens him. So I suggested he write his poems down. At least the threshold for appreciating words isn't high; all you need is some literary knowledge."
He looked at Nick Fury with a mocking gaze. "Sorry, I forgot about your education. Obviously, literary cultivation is something quite distant from you."
Nick Fury remained silent, staring intently at Salomon. He was now certain that this little bastard was deliberately trying to make him unhappy. Whether it was the questions Salomon asked or the text messages he avoided, it was all designed to pique his curiosity, even that damned bird! It was all meant to mock him!
However, Nick Fury quickly regained his composure. His career had been fraught with peril, and this was nothing to him. "Tomorrow, you and I will be in the Quinjet," he said, pointing to his eyes. "I will be representing the World Security Council to assess the threat from Asgard. You must provide me with annotations; I need you to provide what you know about Asgard."
"I'll say what I can say, and I won't say a word about what I shouldn't," Salomon scoffed. "Don't even think about getting information from me. What you need to worry about now is whether your agents have released Saul. Jane Foster is an important figure."
"Besides being an astrophysicist, what else about her is worth paying attention to?" Nick Fury asked. "Is it just because Thor and she are mutually attracted that you're interested in him?"
“Of course not,” Salomon said. “Jane Foster has great potential, not in terms of her relationship with Saul, nor in terms of her degree, but in terms of herself.”
Nick Fury was greatly puzzled, but no matter how he questioned Salomon, he refused to divulge any information. His agent's intuition told him this information must be extremely important, so he offered a deal—Howard Stark's case. Nick Fury could arrange for Salomon to see it, since Tony Stark no longer needed it.
"Jane Foster is qualified to lift Thor's hammer." Salomon waved his hand, signaling Nick Fury not to get too excited. "Not now. She's not qualified yet."
"When will that be?"
"When all hope is shattered."
Being the riddle-maker felt great, but the consequences were less than pleasant. That damn Nick Fury thought he could go a night without sleep without consequence, so he assumed Salomon would too. But it turned out that spellcasters were among the most regular sleepers in the world, and to ensure he was well-rested for his spells, Salomon decided to sleep in his chair. Even with the sorcerer entrusting his safety to the loyal Phoenix, nothing could stop Nick Fury's mouth.
Thanks to the elixir of life, this potion allowed Salomon to fall into the most pleasant and comfortable sleep, and with Phoenix's protection, Salomon felt safe and sound. The sorcerer only slowly awoke when Nick Fury, his voice hoarse from shouting, his forehead covered in sweat, paced anxiously around the room.
"If you don't wake up soon, I'll have to resort to other methods," Nick Fury said. "Now, we're going to get going."
----------
"F-22, ready, sir."
"Air Force Base Standby, End of Report."
"receive."
Nick Fury, aboard a Quinjet, issued orders to the troops in Old Bridge, New Mexico. The Quinjet was currently hovering over the desert near Old Bridge, directly below the military base. Agent Coulson, along with Jane Foster and Thor's group, had taken cover in the command center. To avoid impacting Thor's Hammer during the battle and causing unforeseen consequences, this position needed to be further into the desert, farther from Old Bridge.
S.H.I.E.L.D. fulfilled its duty and evacuated all the residents of Old Bridge. The entire process went smoothly, except for the drug dealer in the large medical pharmacy who put up a fierce resistance. Everyone obediently followed S.H.I.E.L.D. to a safe place after hearing that there might be danger.
After defining certain offensive methods in Salomon, Nick Fury ruled out some powerful weapons that might even damage positions or friendly fire; he planned to use every weapon available. Fortunately, New Mexico had three air force bases that could meet his needs.
Due to the secrecy surrounding Salomon's identity, the only pilot for this Quinjet was Natasha Romanov, who had met Salomon once before. There were only the three of them on board; there were no extra personnel. Nick Fury also needed to report to the World Security Council while simultaneously coordinating military operations. Although somewhat hectic, he managed.
"Sir," Agent Romanov reported to Nick Fury, "Ground forces have detected an energy fluctuation not far from the base."
"Report the situation; we need to know what the enemy is like."
"According to ground troops, there are four enemies, all wearing armor and carrying melee weapons... Wait, according to Saul, they are not enemies, but his friends. Agent Coulson has already sent a vehicle to pick them up."
Nick Fury glanced at Salomon and noticed the sorcerer showed no surprise, as if he had expected this. "Where is the enemy? I don't want to have wasted my time," he asked. "Or are these people all Loki's pawns?"
"They will come," Salomon said. "The Allfather has exiled Thor, and until the Allfather's order is withdrawn, coming to see Thor is tantamount to treason. Those who come here are all Thor's loyal friends. Unfortunately, as the heir to Asgard, Thor has many friends, a great many."
"Who are they?" Nick Fury transmitted the footage captured by the ground forces to the computer, then placed the computer in front of Salomon. "I think you know."
"The fattest one is Volstagg, an excellent warrior, even though he's gained weight; the one with black hair is Hogan, I don't know much about his past; the man with short, curly blond hair is Fandral, who uses a rapier; and the last woman is Sif, the future queen chosen by Queen Frigga, Thor's wife."
Hearing this, Agent Romanoff secretly rolled her eyes. She knew about Jane Foster and Thor's relationship; the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents stationed on the ground had already reported it. Those agents were all elites; their relationship couldn't be hidden at all.
Oh man.
"And what about the enemy?"
Salomon pointed outside the cabin. "Wait a minute, don't rush," he said. "It's coming right now."
