Chapter 1116 Conspiracy
Chapter 1116 Conspiracy (Second Update)
Natasha Romanoff's assessment reminded him of Robbie Reyes and Johnny Blaze, whom he had released back into the "wild," and who were now working together on a mission. The vengeful spirits attached to these two exhibited an undeniable obedience to him; he could command the extradimensional beings attached to them even without conditions, since they were merely costumes worn by the vengeful spirits in the physical universe.
As a promise from the emperor to the two, Robbie Reyes' brother Gabe Reyes and Johnny Blaze's first love Rosanne Simpson were both sent to the capital after the formal establishment of Latvinia, settling in a nearby residential area built specifically for military families. Language barriers were not a problem; the widespread use of real-time translators and the ongoing education in schools were bridging the gap. Gabe Reyes received Latvinia's top education and underwent artificial nerve implant surgery, allowing him to stand up again after leaving his wheelchair; Rosanne Simpson became a news anchor, appearing on Latvinian television every morning, earning a monthly salary sufficient to support a comfortable life.
Natasha Romanoff was unaware of this, but the Emperor of Latvinia didn't flaunt fairness as some kind of boast. "Thank you for the compliment, but I'm sure such praise will send chills down the spines of my enemies." The Emperor shrugged, appearing nonchalant. "Is that what you're trying to say? Long before Steve Rogers set off, Prince T'Challa also departed in his flying vehicle, and if you keep reading, you'll find that these people have already met."
"What do you want to do? I mean, all of this."
"Do you know about Project Pegasus?" The Emperor suddenly brought up something completely unrelated. "If you've been involved in Howard Stark's research on the Cosmic Cube, you should know the name of this project."
“I do know some things. I know the plan ultimately failed.” Natasha Romanoff felt sweat beading on her nose. Every time he mentioned a specific event, it meant those events likely involved immense danger. “Now that the Tesseract is with Thor, Earth is safe,” she said. “Is there anything we don’t know?”
"You don't know, Natasha. Humans live on an island of ignorance in the dark ocean. The ocean may be vast and boundless, holding infinite possibilities, but that doesn't mean you should set sail to explore it." Emperor Latvinia quoted a famous line from Lovecraft. He set aside his empty teacup, took out a thick file, handed it to her, and asked her to open to a specific page. "Project Pegasus was an experiment conducted by NASA in the last century, with S.H.I.E.L.D. as a collaborator. Nick Fury had contact with the Kree at the time, and much of the technology originated from the Kree and the Skrulls who parasitize human society. Subsequent projects also involved many Skrulls and Skrull-human hybrids. If you still don't know, I can tell you that those hybrids are actually the source of the Lizard Man conspiracy theory, which is information we obtained after our raid on the Skrull settlement."
"I knew nothing about this. You actually raided an alien settlement on Earth? What else do you have that we don't know?"
"That's not surprising. Many of the projects Nick Fury carried out were ones he himself couldn't fully understand. He was simply formulating plans with a pragmatic spirit, not considering the consequences. Those fools used technology they didn't even understand themselves. We only learned after Ross confessed that even though the project had stopped, NASA during the Cold War was still trying to revive the light-speed and faster-than-light engines from Project Pegasus. With the help of some Skrull-human hybrids, this research continued. The good news is, they succeeded; the bad news is, they succeeded." Emperor Latvinia shook his head and turned to the middle page of the file. "They assembled an experimental spaceship called the New Territory in space, equipped with a faster-than-light engine. As I said before, they successfully jumped to Neptune's orbit, but the problem is, they didn't appear at the right time. Kamar-Taj discovered this spaceship drifting in an outer dimension while observing the flow of time, and none of the crew survived."
"Cause of death?"
"I don't know. Anything can happen in outer dimensions. The arcane sorcerers' second vision only saw soul signals wandering inside the ship. What's certain is that the things on those ships now are definitely not human, nor are they any aliens." The Emperor's tone was somber, as if he were telling a ghost story. "Faster-than-light engines are something humanity will inevitably research; they are the only way to achieve interstellar colonization. However, the place connected by the Einstein-Rosen Bridge is beyond human comprehension. This is the greatest enemy of human civilization, and also my greatest enemy. Kamar-Taj was originally established to deal with the world behind this veil."
"Does Nick Fury know about this?" Natasha Romanoff asked with great interest.
"He knows part of it. As I said, he adheres to pragmatic principles and is completely unaware of the consequences. Just like forming the Avengers, although it was very useful in the short term, the consequences were also severe. Fortunately, S.H.I.E.L.D. was destroyed early, which prevented further trouble. Everything I planned also mitigated the chain reaction caused by the Avengers." Emperor Latvinia shook his head. "You usually see me casting spells with ease because I am constantly facing the danger of absorbing energy from outer dimensions, paying the price for every spell I use. What you see in Latvinia is not just about fighting the alien fleet, but about these unseen enemies. The Dark Tyrant Thanos is just the first threat we face from the physical universe. That spaceship is expected to surface in the outer dimension around 2047, but in order to completely prevent the spread of outer dimension pollution to Earth, I must send someone to salvage the ship and completely solve the problem, destroying the spaceship at the edge of the solar system."
"But you still haven't answered why you wanted to tell me all this."
"Because I need you. Steve Rogers is too idealistic; his understanding of the world is extremely shallow. If I hadn't explained to him why the Avengers were destroyed, and the motives and beneficiaries behind the series of wars that occurred after World War II, he would still be that naive American soldier. Tony Stark has technology, knowledge, and even ideals, but he is completely unaware of the potential consequences of his actions. He doesn't understand the operating model of himself and the vested interests attached to him. Howard Stark didn't instill this kind of education in him at all, and in a sense, Howard Stark didn't need to, because he himself is a member of the Immortal City. This also resulted in Tony Stark failing to receive the political education of the elite, which is quite inappropriate for a member of the emerging bourgeoisie."
Emperor Latvinia launched a scathing critique of two heavyweight Avengers figures, but still felt it wasn't enough.
"Nick Fury, that damn Nick Fury, he gets into trouble much faster than he can solve it. You and I were both involved in the Son of the Devil incident, in the Salem incident, and we both know that he's very keen on getting involved in things he doesn't understand and believes he can handle everything. Now he's an intelligence officer for the Royal Guard, but that doesn't mean he's settled down. Without the Royal Guard and a large number of accountants managing him, Nick Fury will definitely revert to his old ways and start building his own secret base or supporting Coulson's team's operations."
"This accusation is quite serious."
"So I need you, Natasha." He pulled Black Widow onto his lap, the hem of her black evening gown parting like flowing water, and she straddled him like a doll. She knew this position well; many times their pleasure had begun this way, and this time was no exception. "I need your knowledge, your experience, your skills, even your way of thinking. I need you to be my intelligence officer, to wield some power for me. I want you to be a sharp blade internally, a scalpel that can remove rotten flesh when necessary. I must focus my energy on dealing with those threats; I don't have time to handle all the domestic affairs."
"Whom do you want me to deal with?" Natasha Romanov leaned closer, her hands on the Latvian Emperor's thighs, and she could even smell the brandy in his breath. "Who are your enemies now? You are a dictator; no one in your government will disobey your orders."
"Just because it doesn't exist now doesn't mean it won't exist in the future. Your primary goal is to become the Minister of State. I've recruited Hydra, and now I need someone who isn't Hydra to manage them, to ensure that this viper's fangs aren't turned against me. While Stephanie Malik is loyal, others may not be."
