Chapter 1136 Assault on the Golden City

Chapter 1136 Raid on the Golden City (Second Update)

When the Wardogs' satellite control center on the outskirts of Golden City was engulfed by a sudden explosion, the Wakandans living in Golden City were completely unaware. In the next twenty minutes, assassinations, kidnappings, and explosions followed one after another. Some nobles were killed instantly by landmines disguised as trash cans or pulse weapons while riding in hovercars, while others were held at gunpoint in their homes by former Wardogs disguised as servants. Upon receiving the news, the Wardogs immediately rushed from the palace to the scene of the incident, but when they arrived, they found that the perpetrators had already vanished without a trace.

The Royal Army and Royal Air Force maintained an eerie silence during this period until the new King, En-Jadaka, summoned his command staff and marshal to the palace, at which point the Wakanda army reluctantly began its blockade. However, this did little to improve the situation; the enemy seemed intimately familiar with Wakanda's key military installations. Now, the source of the attack was clear, but even if the new King, En-Jadaka, wanted to issue a public announcement to the entire Wakanda that the attack originated from a former member of the royal family, it was no longer possible.

The new king, who had only been on the throne for two days, had not yet fully taken control of all the forces in Wakanda. Some nobles and members of the War Dogs organization, who had been wavering, seemed to know some secret and began to cooperate with the actions of the former royal family. Facilities such as communications, electricity, and seawater filtration plants were attacked one after another. The virus code that was difficult to remove was implanted into the control system of these facilities like a chronic disease attached to the body. Even the royal palace was in crisis of power outage and water shortage.

Meanwhile, the tribes stationed on the border spotted a hovercar speeding towards them, and the people who stepped out were the most unexpected. Surrounded by former members of the War Dogs organization, Princess Shuri first gave a speech to the scouts disguised as border tribesmen. Then, a dense array of small black dots appeared on the horizon, and armored vehicles and aircraft that were clearly not Wakanda rushed towards the border.

"This is a royal dispute, and no one else should have to die because of it. I don't want to see you die, so don't betray my good intentions. Take this and keep quiet. I promise you that no matter who wins, you won't be held responsible. You haven't broken your oath to my father."

"You'll regret this, Princess Shuri," the border tribe's scout leader said viciously. "This has nothing to do with the border tribe's oath to the throne. No foreign armed force has ever set foot on Wakanda, not even your father's allies."

"If we don't do this, more people will step into Wakanda in the future, and the wars they bring won't be limited to the throne," Princess Shuri said calmly. In response, a rocket launched from an armored personnel carrier, trailing a fiery exhaust and a deafening whistle, hurtling towards the observation post established by the border tribes. The plasma warhead's stellar heat from the resulting astronomical flare vaporized the vibranium alloy miniature fortress used for protection, igniting a raging fire that was difficult to extinguish. "This is just a warning; there won't be a next time," the War Dogs and Dora Mirajane said, raising their spears to prevent the border tribes from rushing in to capture Shuri. "Step back, my friend, unless you want war with us."

The armored vehicle stopped before reaching the wreckage of the border tribe's outpost, its tracks leaving two churning tracks in the grass. A company commander, wearing a blood-red Roman crown and wielding a massive double-bladed axe, strode out of the crashed hatch on the front ramp, followed by a guard armed with explosive pistols and greatswords. The company commander walked to Princess Surui's side, removed his helmet, and only then did the border tribesmen see the granite-like face of Princess Surui's so-called ally, etched with an uncontrollable bloodlust. "Get out, or die," the executioner said, picking up the massive axe with both hands, his voice low and menacing, as if from hell itself. "I recommend the second, because I want to warm up."

The first person to die died from ignorance and arrogance.

The wide roads of Wakanda's capital allowed the armored corps of the Infernal Knights to drive unimpeded into the Golden City. The security of the capital was handled by an armed special forces squad from the War Dogs organization, promoted by the new king. They attempted to intercept the Infernal Knights' armored corps with a hovercar, but the laser cannons on the armored personnel carrier opened fire without hesitation, incinerating the hovercar and its passengers into a fireball. Follow-up troops then used the tracks to flatten the charred metal.

The Infernal Knights attacking Golden City split into two groups. Piloting interceptors and assault transport ships, they swarmed the city's airfields at the opposite end and the city center, effectively shutting down Wakanda's fighter jets before they could even take off. The roar of engines echoed like a persistent nightmare over the city, while anti-aircraft missiles launched from armored personnel carriers blazed like the rising sun. A few Talon aircraft that had already taken off and managed to evade the anti-aircraft missiles were forced to land on the outskirts of Golden City, surrounded by Vulture interceptors that outnumbered them several times over. Several firefights ensued, with the Infernal Knights' forward-swept Vulture interceptors and Wakanda's Talon fighters suffering losses on both sides. However, with comparable aircraft performance, the Infernal Knights, with their superior physical abilities and agile reflexes, gained the upper hand. The explosions of their aircraft fell like meteors from the sky above Golden City, which had just been shrouded in night.

Meanwhile, another force of Fire Knights, equipped with armored personnel carriers and hovercraft, quickly seized control of roads, tunnels, and bridges leading to the palace, clearing obstacles for subsequent troops entering the city, as planned. Some areas were passable without any fighting, while others required pinpoint rocket strikes from outside the city to capture. However, the former were the majority, while the vast majority of the latter chose to abandon their positions after assessing the situation, and were taken to the rear as prisoners of war by members of the War Dogs organization loyal to Princess Shuri.

After capturing key strategic points, the Fire Knights, guided by intelligence provided by the War Dogs, dispatched squads of armored vehicles and hovercraft to critical facilities such as the communications station and nuclear power plant. Without damaging vital equipment, they used their robust armor and exceptional combat capabilities to expel and eliminate War Dog members within the organization at an astonishing speed. To recruit surrenderers and minimize innocent casualties, each Fire Knight attack squad included former War Dog members carrying Princess Shuri's orders. Before the attack began, the Fire Knights broadcast a message of amnesty. Some, hearing Princess Shuri's surrender declaration on the broadcast, were forced to surrender under the pressure of the Fire Knights' chainswords and explosive guns. However, not everyone surrendered. Some veteran War Dogs who had served three kings considered Princess Shuri's actions a betrayal of the country. These highly respected elders gathered a group of allies to confront the Fire Knights in public.

The main mission of the assault squad led by Company Commander "The Executioner" Aparisha is to completely crush any resistance forces.

He strolled through the burning streets of the Golden City, panicked civilians running past him and his squad in disarray, ignored by the Infernal Knights. Until they encountered the old warhounds who had been calling for a duel on the common communications channel. The Executioner ordered his guards to cramm the accompanying warhounds into armored vehicles, then led the First Company of Infernal Knights to slaughter any mortals who dared to resist. Wakanda's pulse and plasma weapons, prioritizing rapid fire over lethality, could only leave scorching dents on the Infernal Knights' heat-resistant ceramic composite armor. The Infernal Knights, shields in hand, closed the distance under the hail of bullets, cutting and slaughtering the old warhounds in the burning streets with their melee weapons.

Compared to the Fire Knight, all human soldiers in the world seemed weak; the anti-tank rockets flying towards him moved as slowly as snails. The Executioner wielded his massive axe like a ferocious tiger invading a flock of sheep. The azure force field wrapped around the axe blade, enhanced by his genetic modifications and power armor, allowed him to easily slice through the old warhound's vibranium alloy weapons and armor. When the warhounds accompanying the army were finally allowed to leave the armored vehicle, the scene before them was so appalling that even those warhounds who had experienced small-scale warfare felt nauseous. The Executioner's armor was covered in foul-smelling blood, and the stench of flesh and blood stained his once-white fur and shawl was unbearable for these ordinary people.

The war dogs wanted to protest, but many lost their courage at the sight of the executioner, who exuded a bloodthirsty aura.

Fifty combat brothers piloting vulture-like aircraft and assault transport boats provided ample firepower support for the five hundred Infernal Knights entering the city, while one hundred and twenty Infernal Knights protecting artillery armored vehicles, main battle tanks, and self-propelled guns outside the city entered the city after the vanguard had already taken control. In just three hours, Wakanda's main infrastructure had completely fallen. The once beautiful golden city was now shrouded in fierce fire and thick black smoke, while the main road leading to the palace gates remained unobstructed.

Legion Commander Malcolm stepped out of the car and faced the open palace gates.

Ten kilometers behind him was a cluster of self-propelled artillery, and the main battle tanks of the Fire Knights rolled over the corpses of the rebels, completely surrounding the main road about one kilometer away from the palace. They escorted the black-faced hovercar to the palace gates, where a depressed Princess Surui, with the help of members of the War Dogs organization, came to the legion commander's side.

"Is this the price I have to pay?"

Malcolm shook his head. "No, you're never the one who pays the price."
