Chapter 1156 Two Threats

Chapter 1156 Two Threats (First Update)

Undoubtedly, the emperor's actions were always purposeful. Because of his long-term vision, these actions often had remarkable effects years later. This is why ordinary people, unable to comprehend the vicissitudes of fate over such a long period, found it difficult to understand the emperor's behavior. However, not every action required years to be effective; some short-term actions were also understandable to ordinary people. Natasha Romanov gritted her teeth, blaming herself for forgetting this. "I should have known! He's just a profit-driven creature!" She forced a smile and said goodbye to the Bartons, agreeing to meet them at dinner time. Standing outside the door, she waited until the alloy blast door closed, ensuring the Bartons couldn't hear anything, before asking, "What do you want me to do now?"

"Don't be so heartless, Natasha." The Emperor's smile remained unchanged. "This time it's a good thing."

"Most of the time, your tasks have nothing to do with good things," she asked. "If I refuse the task, are you going to send them all back and take back the college tuition you gave those three kids?"

"Of course not, I'm not that despicable. I think we can discuss things somewhere more appropriate, won't we?" The Emperor seemed to sense Natasha's annoyance, so he invited her to leave the corridor with him and take the elevator up. This elevator, while not the massive elevators capable of transporting spacecraft that she had seen in the royal city, was still large enough to accommodate a small squadron of the Royal Guard. The elevator's ascent and descent weren't long, the numbers on the display screen jumping wildly, but surprisingly, she didn't feel any change in gravity, not even the pushing or weightlessness she usually experienced in elevators. Natasha Romanov mentally mapped out the elevator's location along the way; she was certain it was in the center of the space station, and the long ascent and descent only confirmed this.

After the elevator doors opened, Hammurabi, who had been following the Emperor, stopped at the entrance, while the Emperor walked into a corridor with white walls. At the end of the corridor was a single room. Judging from the weapons platform at the entrance, security was extremely tight. Natasha Romanov didn't see the Emperor perform any actions before the heavy alloy doors of the room swung open. She first saw a living room with a wool carpet. Following the Emperor further in, she saw a dining room with enormous furniture, a study, a swimming pool, and a bar next to it. There were no doors between the rooms; those staying there could freely go wherever they wanted.

Upon receiving the command, the central control computer switched off all the lights in the room. The closed gates above the pool and the outermost protective armor retracted to the sides. The atoms in the innermost layer of the multi-layered armored glass aligned neatly in the same direction under the influence of magnetism. Brilliant starlight shone into the room through the slightly curved armored glass, blocking harmful light without obstructing the view. The weakened, soft starlight, accompanying the space station's movement, entered the view from above the skylight, shattering into a shimmering galaxy in the rippling pool. "I think this will help you relax. Don't worry about electromagnetic radiation in space. If this armored glass can't block it, neither can this space station, so just enjoy it." Salomon picked up tonic water, gin, and lemon from the bar and the refrigerator beside him, and simply mixed a gin and tonic. "Want one?"

"So romantic." Natasha Romanov couldn't help but exclaim in amazement at the beautiful scenery before her. Imagine swimming in a low-gravity pool while gazing up at the vast, boundless starry sky; it's hard not to be captivated by the immense expanse and endless starlight. She took a sip of her gin and tonic, licked her lips, and said, "That won't buy me. I'm not that easily satisfied."

"When the space station is in front of the sun, you can enjoy a very healthy low-UV sunbathing experience here." Salomon also mixed himself a drink. "This is my private room on the space station, and it's yours now. It's probably the most expensive real estate in the world right now. This is the room that Amazon CEO Bezos has always dreamed of. You can get the perfect bikini tan here."

"The more valuable the gift, the more complicated the mission," Natasha Romanov said angrily. "I should refuse right now."

"Then other people will move into this room. I won't ask you to do anything I don't want to do, and you haven't even heard the mission details from me yet, so how can you be so sure I'll give you a terrible mission?" He only thought of the starry sky outside the armored glass porthole. "In the future, this starry sky will be filled with enormous starships, solar power plants with wireless power transmission, massive orbital plates stretching for kilometers, void shipyards rising from the equator, and star fortresses transit stations wandering through the solar system. Tony Stark only thinks about armoring this planet, but I want people to venture into space. My dream requires countless people and countless jobs to build it up bit by bit. You may not see that day come, but your work is one of the countless foundations for building these magnificent structures."

"The future you've painted sounds wonderful, but I'm not a young person who'll be fooled by that. Hurry up, don't waste time, I'm planning to have dinner with the Bartons!"

"My lord?" the Imperial Guard greeted.

The emperor rolled his eyes, waved his hand, and stepped into the elevator with Hammurabi. "Women these days are getting harder and harder to deal with," he complained impatiently as the elevator descended. "It's not even a particularly troublesome task, yet she wants so much!"

"You've never been good at dealing with women, especially those who know your fetishes. This is an objective fact I've observed at the manor, and it's also a noteworthy security vulnerability. You shouldn't show your vulnerability to anyone who can get close to you," Hammura replied truthfully. "Besides, this mission isn't indispensable; General Hale's daughter, Ruby, can also carry it out. I think it's time to recall that girl from the Hydra training camp and replace Natasha Romanoff with her. This will also help us continue to win over General Hale."

The emperor pondered for a moment, and finally nodded in agreement.

Although he wanted to correct Hammurabi's misunderstanding of his personal security measures and tell him how powerful his automated defenses were, Hammurabi didn't know his secrets as well as Constantine did, and his design and planning for the Guard didn't involve many extradimensional applications. Therefore, the Emperor could only agree with the Guard's assessment. "Then should we cancel Natasha Romanov's mission?" the Guard asked. "I suggest she stay on the space station to avoid affecting the mission."

"No, I need a victor." In an instant, Salomon transformed back into the Emperor of Latvinia, his demeanor and even his facial expressions changing as if his previous emotions and relationships were irrelevant to his current decision. "Bring Ruby Hale to the Immortal City for intensive training, to try and make up for the lack of practical experience. Even if Ruby ultimately fails, as long as her abilities meet the requirements, it means there will be more than one candidate for future missions." He looked at the floor numbers displayed in his dark eyes. "We must thwart the Kree's ambition to conquer Earth. This time, we cannot rely on a shining, foolish woman; we must demonstrate our own military strength. Only in this way can we solve the problem once and for all."

"Should we change the ultimate goal?"

"No, accelerate the production of more genetically modified warriors and war equipment. I want to lead them to the land of Hala," the Emperor said. "Let General Hale believe we know nothing. I think she will learn a lesson from this: don't believe aliens or that we know everything. Connect me to Kasirius; he has news about the Allfathers. Compared to the Kree threat, the threat from Asgard is far more deadly."
