Chapter 116 Merlin School (Second Update! Please Subscribe!)

Nick Fury didn't hide his purpose from Salomon; he wanted to keep Salomon under his watchful eye. He promised that once Salomon entered S.H.I.E.L.D., he would gain unimaginable resources, both technological and magical—he would do whatever Salomon asked.

The purpose of this was not only to monitor Salomon, a dangerous target, but also to obtain the magic and "alien technology" in Salomon's possession. His previous suggestion to send people to Kamar-Taj had been ruthlessly rejected, so he could only try to find a way through Salomon.

Therefore, he was ridiculed by the sorcerer.

Salomon believed that a university without a theology, a castle, a classical literature major, or even a Soviet spy was not a good university at all. S.H.I.E.L.D. was at best a vocational school. Furthermore, Salomon wouldn't tell Nick Fury what his purpose was in going to Asgard.

"I trust very few people, you could count them on one hand," he said. "But we share the same goal, wouldn't it be better to cooperate?"

"Then stop talking nonsense." Salomon sneered as he stood up. "You can't give me anything. This isn't cooperation; it's extortion. Magic has a price, and so does spying on magic. You may be irreplaceable, but others aren't. Next time you make such a suggestion, I'll cut off your 'finger'."

After saying that, Salomon opened a portal and walked out of the office. His vacation was almost over, and he was rushing to finish his homework! Eton College's coursework was not only extremely difficult, but the living arrangements were also incredibly strict. Just yesterday, the housemaster had sent him a text message requesting his height so a new uniform could be made—for a teenage boy, a vacation is enough to grow five inches taller, and the housemaster absolutely forbade any student to wear an ill-fitting uniform to school!

When Salomon returned to Kamar-Taj, more than a month had passed, and Christmas was just around the corner. Even Eton College would close for the upcoming Christmas holiday. Upon returning, Salomon immediately enjoyed the freedom and flexible schedule, and he even experimented with some of his newly learned spells. After a simple birthday celebration, he planned to travel to Japan to prepare for a holy war called the "Winter Comiket."

Eton College not only failed to rid Salomon of his otaku tendencies, but actually made them worse. Whenever no one was watching (or when he was with Bayonetta), Salomon would quickly become a recluse, turning into a mysterious creature wrapped in a blanket eating snacks.

But before he could participate in the holy war, he was captured and brought back by several sorcerers. Among them were Wu Guiyue, the guardian of the Hong Kong Temple, the sorcerer Xiao Wang, and the sorcerer Hamil.

"It's almost Chinese New Year, everyone should get together." Wu Guiyue used her Wan Tai Staff to nudge Salomon's head. "Don't even think about going to the Japanese territory. The foreigners are celebrating Christmas, the shops are closed. Go to Chinatown and buy some things: turmeric powder, sweet wine, and soy sauce. Xiao Wang will go with you. Hurry up and come back, my daughter will be back soon, and you, as the older brother, need to take care of her."

"I've already prepared the gift!" Salomon could now recite the spell fluently, though his pronunciation wasn't perfect, it was passable. "You guys don't have one," he said. "That's for Alice. Doesn't the Supreme One celebrate?"

"Halloween is long gone," said Master Hamil. "If you are filial, go and keep His Holiness company tonight."

"I have other people to accompany," Salomon retorted.

"So young and already so lewd." Wu Guiyue clearly knew about the witch's affair. She said, "Invite them to celebrate the New Year together. Oh dear, Alice will be unhappy."

"Your daughter is so young, I'm already fifteen." Salomon rolled his eyes.

"I know." Wu Guiyue waved her hand, signaling Salomon to hurry up and leave. Little Wang the mage pulled Salomon away; his father was there, which frightened him. After they passed through the portal and arrived in New York's Chinatown, they found a dragon dance performance underway. Confetti rained down from the sky, covering the entire street, and the sounds of gongs and suonas never ceased. This was just a small New Year's celebration; the Chinese New Year celebrations in Chinatown would be much grander.

"Don't argue with them," Little Wang Monk couldn't help but complain. "My dad even deducted my salary to make me lose weight."

"But why haven't you lost any weight?" Salomon patted the little mage's round belly. "Do you still have money to buy food?"

"I cooked all the meals at the Hong Kong Temple," said Master Wang, shrugging innocently. "Is there anything wrong with tasting the food while cooking?"

"I don't think the day you can control your own salary will ever come." Salomon wiped his hands with a look of disgust. "Let's hurry up and go shopping. I still need to pick up Bayonetta and Joan of Arc to celebrate the New Year at the Temple."

Master Wang was extremely familiar with New York's Chinatown. He led Salomon through the crowded streets toward the small supermarket next to the dragon dance troupe. But just as they emerged from the crowd, Salomon and Master Wang heard a scream. A person had fallen from an upper floor, landing in a pile of cardboard boxes filled with colorful ribbons. The person immediately stood up, seemingly unharmed. However, his attire was quite bizarre: a hairstyle reminiscent of the Qing Dynasty, fiercely slanted eyes, and a metallic skirt.

Those around them, thinking it was some kind of performance, began to applaud. Salomon and the young mage also clapped and squeezed their way into the next crowd. But after only a couple of steps, Salomon stopped, and the young mage did the same. Despite the various noises outside, in the Aetherial Plane, an even louder sound was echoing, a surge of magical power rising. To the spellcasters, this sound was even more deafening than the suona horns playing nearby.

"Magic!" Salomon turned around, looking at the spot they had just passed. It was already crowded again, but he and the young mage had still sensed that the surge of magic in the Aetherial Plane had originated there. "Anyone else coming to Chinatown today?" Salomon raised his voice to the young mage, "Or perhaps, is there a mage living here?"

"I don't know!" Little Wang shook his head. He decided to stay and see, because preventing the secrets of magic from being known to the public was also one of Kamar-Taj's responsibilities. He didn't know which wild sorcerer was casting a spell in public. If things were as he suspected, then he and Salomon would have to subdue that wild sorcerer.

"There!" Salomon pointed to the dragon dance not far away. The originally conspicuous red cloth had turned into dark scales, and the wooden dragon head had been transformed into flesh and blood, which continued to spread downwards. The dragon dancer's feet were also covered with scales and turned into the claws of another creature, which also had two small wings extending from its back.

It was a bizarre-looking dragon, with the head of an Eastern dragon and the body of a Western dragon, appearing short and stout. When it let out its first roar, everyone fled in terror. The young sorcerer, pulling Salomon upstream, ran towards the strange-looking dragon. This was a sudden magical incident, and the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj were obligated to handle it. But before they could get close, a gust of wind swept in from behind them, blowing up all the colorful ribbons on the ground, instantly filling the entire street with a sea of ribbons. And this strong wind seemed not to dissipate, but instead continued to swirl around the monster.

"There's more than one mage here; he's blocking the monster's view." Salomon pulled up the hood of his cult robes to keep his hair from getting covered in ribbons and dust. "Go check on the one in the back; I'll handle the one in front."

"Okay." Little Wang the mage nodded, turned around and ran upstairs along the fire escape. The mage's location had been revealed when he cast the spell earlier. Although the mage had blocked the monster's vision and covered the escape of ordinary people, Little Wang the mage couldn't guarantee that he was friendly.

The etheric waves unleashed by the deformed dragon continued to surge, blurring the spellcaster's original location. Salomon could only move forward relying on his memory and sense of direction. The drumming had stopped; Salomon could only hear the sound of shattering bricks and the roar of the monstrous dragon.

"Balthazar!" he heard someone shout the name, followed by a new wave of ethereal energy, though this time much smaller. But before Salomon could take a few steps forward, a violent explosion rang out.

"You skipped the first step!" someone responded to the voice.

"That's right, you skipped reporting to Kamar-Taj, Wild Mage!" Salomon stepped forward, facing the burly man with a Qing Dynasty-style hairstyle. The man immediately adopted a hostile stance upon seeing Salomon, the Kamar-Taj insignia making him extremely nervous.

"You! And you!" Salomon pointed at the strange man in front of him, and the man behind him with short, gray-white hair and a black trench coat. "You two are coming with me. Kamar-Taj wants to question you. Oh dear, trying to break the laws of Kamar-Taj?"

"Can we talk about this later?" the man in the black trench coat shouted. "I have connections in Kamar-Taj!"

"No." Little Wang the Mage appeared behind him, his hands wreathed in sparks.

The man with the Qing Dynasty-style hair waved his hands, and the brass dragon sculpture on his belt began to writhe and crawl. The monstrous dragon pounced out of the window above Salomon's head, crashing down on the arcane mage below amidst shattered glass and bricks. However, before the wild mage could even assess the situation, he was slammed to the ground by a battering ram force field descending from the sky. Salomon then jumped down and paralyzed him with his fist.

The combination of stealth step, battering ram, and finally a punch makes for a very effective vertical strike combo.

Having lost the spellcaster's control, the monstrous dragon went berserk, recklessly climbing towards the residential building—its initial target. Salomon placed his hand on the man's belt and cast a "dispelling spell" on the bronze dragon sculpture. Soon, the brass dragon sculpture stopped moving, and the monstrous dragon reverted back to its original form as a wooden and cloth dragon.

Just as the dragon dancers were about to fall, the mage in the black leather coat cast a spell to catch them, allowing them to land slowly. At that moment, the gust of wind gradually subsided, and Salomon, dragging the strange man by the foot, walked through the falling ribbons towards the young mage.

"Let's go," said the young mage to the man in the black trench coat. "Come back to Kamar-Taj with us. The temple deacons will give you a fair trial."

"We haven't bought our things yet. Although I'm prepared to be the main character, when things actually come knocking, I find it troublesome." Salomon gave the man he was dragging around with extreme disgust. "Who is he? Who are you? What are you doing here?"

"He is Sun Long, a dark wizard. I originally imprisoned him, but he was released by other wizards." The man in the black leather coat gestured. "My name is Balthazar, a level 777 wizard of the Merlin School. I am quite familiar with the Sorcerer Supreme... if the Ancient One is still alive."
