Chapter 1233 The Mysterious Figure in the Forest
Chapter 1233 The Mysterious Figure in the Forest (Second Update)
Supilulius was receiving intelligence via powered armor communications. Commander Constantine had sent him the Emperor's travel plans, and Supilulius had also seen the Emperor's speech in Cuba and the immediate aid plan. While the entire South America was being ravaged by earthquakes, Cuba, located in the Caribbean and surrounded by the sea with its major cities almost entirely on the coast, was particularly vulnerable to the tsunami's impact. It seemed Emperor Latvinia had anticipated this, quickly reaching an agreement with the Cuban government, and his public pronouncements made it appear as if Cuba were his territory.
Supilulimas could have foreseen the Cuban attitude. Unlike watching the speeches on television, some ordinary people who had direct contact with the emperor still haven't shaken off the influence, as if the emperor had been created out of thin air and then forcibly stuffed into the physical universe, radiating an indescribable brilliance. A couple in Serajefri still vividly remember the scene of the emperor's speech, as if they were experiencing that radiant and warm moment again and again.
As the emperor delivered his speech, the accompanying Pegasus heavy assault transport ships, Eagle assault transport ships, and Claw interceptors took off separately, forming a formation to fly to the disaster-stricken areas of Cuba to maintain order, distribute a lot of emergency supplies including medicines, and even a medical team dedicated to serving the emperor joined the disaster relief operation.
Of course, the Emperor's explanation was that his entourage was ready for war at any time, a reason that made perfect sense given the current situation, not to mention the agreements Diana Lister had secretly reached with the Cuban government. This also led the Cuban government to overlook certain anomalies, since only a few high-ranking officials knew that the Emperor's true destination was not Cuba.
As for the U.S. Navy's Fourth Fleet, which was originally patrolling in South America, they had no time to consider the impact of the Emperor's trip to Cuba. The sudden storms and high waves that had struck earlier had caused heavy losses to the Fourth Fleet; a frigate was swallowed by a giant wave unprecedented in modern Caribbean and South Atlantic navigation history, and several fighter jets docked on the aircraft carrier deck sank due to the extremely treacherous waves. The U.S. Navy was currently busy salvaging the sunken ships and rescuing survivors, and had no time to organize another exercise that resembled a deterrent.
Laura Crawford had already been awakened by Amon long before Onuratu woke up.
"What did you inject me with?!" The stinging sensation on her skin and the feeling of the cold medicine flowing into her veins instantly snapped Laura Crawford back to reality. When she opened her eyes, she saw that Amon was holding a syringe that had just been used, and there was a bloodstain on her arm.
"This is a chemical agent used in implants for pilots. It will keep you alert and energetic. I've strictly controlled the dosage; you just need to drink more water to metabolize it." Amon didn't indulge her and pulled Laura Crawford up from the carpet. "Get up now, the tribal warriors are about to attack, and we must find the silver box before then."
"But Yasok is there." Laura Crawford rubbed her eyes and yawned.
"That's no longer a problem. As long as you're in good enough shape, I can handle those Yasoks." Amon wasn't exaggerating; he truly could handle the bizarre creatures from the previous night, and he was far more resolute than imagined. After Laura Crawford quickly ate her fill and retraced her steps into the Eye of the Serpent, she witnessed firsthand the Royal Guard's combat prowess. Although the space was extremely cramped, every thrust of Amon's lance precisely struck the heads and chests of the oncoming Yasoks. The excessively large and sharp spear blades easily shattered human bones, pinning those ghostly creatures to the rock walls.
"Cover your ears." Facing enemies almost invisible to the naked eye in low light, Amon activated the power source, and azure lightning converged on the spear blade. He would occasionally fire a shot, blasting more threatening Yasoks further away to smithereens, but most of the time he used his melee weapon to clear a path for Laura Crawford. The acrid smell of burning flesh permeated the cave, like the sound of a heated scalpel cutting through flesh during surgery. The Yasoks, seeing the strength of the Royal Guard, didn't immediately rush forward recklessly, but instead slowly surrounded Amon and Laura Crawford as they moved. "Alright, now go in!" The Royal Guard gently pushed the archaeologist into the narrow passage only she could enter. "I'll wait for you here."
"but……"
"Shut up, go now!" Amon brandished his guard spear, drawing a long, piercing shriek through the air. The tall warrior in golden armor, wielding a massive blade, faced Yasok, who was huddled in the darkness—it all looked like a scene from a myth. "You absolutely cannot disappoint my lord."
Laura Crawford's research was correct; she had indeed found the silver box. However, she wasn't the only one who had found it. When she emerged from the altar, covered in scrapes and bruises, she discovered that Amon's situation was far more complex. Yasok and the Trinity mercenaries were locked in fierce combat, the muzzle flashes and stray bullets appearing and disappearing in the narrow cavern. Amon, wielding his guard's spear, fired relentlessly, his large-caliber explosive shells hitting their mark every time, blasting every Trinity mercenary who aimed at him into thumb-sized pieces.
The magazine was quickly emptied. With the range and precision of a mortar, Amon threw a plasma grenade. The scorching heat instantly vaporized the Trinity mercenaries huddled behind cover into carbonized marks on the rock face. A huge gap appeared in the Trinity mercenaries' firepower. Only then did the Imperial Guard leisurely reload, and the explosive guns on the Spear of the Guard once again unleashed a deafening roar and a storm of fire, causing the Imperial Guards' crimson battle robes to flutter even without wind.
Onuratu had never left this rainforest. She knew its mountains, trees, and people well, but she had never witnessed such a terrifying downpour. When she and her tribal warriors awoke, the rain had temporarily stopped, but the muddy water and puddles had already submerged the low-lying areas, forming shimmering little lakes in the forest. The dim light of dawn couldn't penetrate the thick green canopy of the forest, so Onuratu and her warriors set off by the faint light, knowing the way well. Even though the path had turned into slippery mud, the warriors maintained their balance without torches, keeping their laser weapons and lightweight chainsaws as far away from the mud as possible.
Both Supiluliumas and Onuratu believed that such torrential rain would cause great trouble for the Holy Trinity mercenaries. Their ammunition might be submerged before they could be moved. Compared to the rebels resting in the dry caves, the outsiders, except for the Kukulkan Order composed of Paititi people who supported Amaru, were unlikely to get proper rest. Now was the best time to launch a surprise attack. What surprised Onuratu the most was that two more giants wearing the same armor as Supiluliumas had appeared in the camp at some point, and in the center of the giants was a mysterious figure draped in a dark green cloak, whose face was obscured.
In a daze, Onuratu thought he saw the eyes of the mysterious figure.
"Lady Onuratu." The mysterious figure spoke with the same pure Quechua accent as the guards. It wasn't the Quechua that the Spanish had Latinized, but rather the accent used by the locals long before the language was written in knotted ropes. However, this mysterious figure sounded more like a king than a peasant, as if the land beneath his feet belonged to his kingdom. "I hope your dealings with Supiluliumas will be pleasant."
Onulatu nodded, unsure of what to say.
"Supilulimas will accompany you and the tribal warriors in the raid against the Kukulkan Order." The mysterious figure's smile was very warm, and this emotion unconsciously moved Onuratu. "I believe he will definitely play a good role."
