Chapter 1234, Chapter 1230: The Night Before the Dense Forest
Chapter 1234, Chapter 1230: The Night Before the Dense Forest (First Update)
Although the rain continued to pour, the star crawled along the horizon and beneath the dense forest canopy, awaiting its moment of emergence. For Onuratu and the Queen's Guard, the last to depart from the rebel camp, the air had become humid again as the numerous campfires had died down, and the shadows they had once driven away returned, more ferocious than before. A chill began to spread through their skin, an experience they rarely had, one that was equally terrifying and unsettling. Then, this feeling dissipated, as if a comforting, warm star had approached from behind, surrounded by giant warriors clad in golden armor.
Onuratu inadvertently looked up and saw his eyes, eyes as black as the deep void. She felt her limbs become heavy and stiff, and sweat began to bead on her forehead, as if her soul had sunk to the earth's core and been scalded by molten lava. Only when the cloaked figure averted his gaze and slightly concealed himself with his heavy cloak did the burning hallucination that had arisen in her mind due to incomprehension abruptly disappear. The mysterious figure reached out and steadied her shoulder to prevent her from hitting the rock wall. This time, Onuratu saw that the hand wore three exquisite gemstone rings of different colors.
"Ms. Onuratu?"
"Oh...oh!" Onuratu nodded as if waking from a dream. The hand was quite warm, and she slowly relaxed. The mysterious figure seemed somewhat remorseful for Onuratu's outburst, so his tone was gentle, and even his expression softened. She wiped the cold sweat from her forehead. "I accept this offer."
"I believe Supiluliumas can lead the tribal warriors to an unprecedented victory." He turned and, along with another guard whom Onuratu had never seen before, with a cold expression, walked into the shadows unlit by the campfire. Only Supiluliumas remained, still holding the guard's spear. As for the others, they seemed to have melted into the shadows and disappeared. Even the tribal warriors familiar with every passage of this stronghold had no idea where the mysterious man had gone.
“I’ve said it before, not everyone is capable of speaking to him face-to-face, at least not ordinary humans. And… he’s in a bad mood. Although others may not be able to tell, we, the Royal Guard, understand him. There are too many places where supernatural powers are needed lately, like here.” Supiluliumas put on his helmet, his voice coming through the voice grille. The Royal Guard lowered their output volume to avoid deafening Onuratu and the Queen’s Guard. “Are you sure you want to go to the battlefield with us? This isn’t the time when you and the Kukulkan Order were on the same page. Amaru could kill you at any moment.”
"Who do you take me for, Supilulius? I am the rightful queen of Paititi, and I must confront the usurper and remove him from the throne. Even if I die, the men I leave behind are enough to make Ezli a worthy king."
Onuratu sheathed her chainsword at her waist, looking quite imposing. She had changed into a battle suit supposedly worn by her husband, the former King of Paititi, Seri—more symbolic than practical. Although the royal guard disagreed with this foolish move, they had to admit it was very important to Onuratu, and therefore he had to expend more effort protecting her from stray bullets. He didn't trust the guards; courage was meaningless against automatic weapons unless they could reach the Trinity mercenaries with their chainswords.
"No matter what, I have an obligation to find Amaru and find out the truth about the famine and Seri's death."
“You’re telling me there’s something here that could cause a global catastrophe,” T’Challa said, looking down at the rainforest in the dim light. “But I can’t see anything there unless you want us to stop the deforestation of the Amazon.”
"Thank you for your humor, my friend. I see you're with Dora's Guard." The Emperor of Latvinia was still draped in a thick, dark green cloak. Behind him and the King of Wakanda, the Royal Guard stood shoulder to shoulder with Dora, though the Wakanda King's personal guard seemed to want to project an air of superiority, so they stepped slightly forward. Hammurabi glanced at Dora, but neither spoke nor made a move. "Have you received the earthquake analysis?" the Emperor of Latvinia asked, "including the epicenter migration data and predictions."
"I received it last night. But I want to ask, what kind of enemy are we facing?"
"Quetzalcoatl, Kukulkan, Quetzalcoatl, whatever you want to call him, that bastard has many names."
"You can't keep this from me now. You know what I want to ask. God? An alien like Thor or something else?" T'Challa turned around. Except for the metal necklace forged to resemble Black Panther's teeth, the Black Panther suit barely reflected light in the dim environment. "If you want my help, I need specific intelligence. The enemy's form, abilities, countermeasures, and so on."
"If I had known, I wouldn't have needed to prepare so much. You have all the intelligence you have. The worst-case scenario is that we might be facing a winged serpent or dragon that crawled out of another dimension and danced wildly in the atmosphere of South America until the entire planet was submerged by seawater, and underwater volcanoes erupted like boils on a teenager's face." Emperor Latvinia's words were overflowing with profanity; even the Royal Guard rarely heard him use so many repetitive words to emphasize his point.
"That sounds terrible." T'Challa squinted. "How did this kind of trouble come to this planet?"
"I've been asking myself this question: why did this disaster happen on this planet?" Emperor Latvinia let out a long sigh, exhaling all his frustration. "Karmar-Taj is under lockdown and undergoing divination. Genetically modified warriors are on standby at Skysword Station, and the orbital bombardment program for the interstellar missiles is complete. If we fail, we'll have to blow up the Amazon rainforest to save the entire Earth. That's the bullshit we're facing. I even had to abandon the fruit tea I just made and the upcoming meeting to rush here."
"Fruit tea with rum and antidepressants is not suitable for children. I'm so glad those Cuban children escaped this fate."
"That's a huge tub of fruit tea. Every child over five years old has a drug intake within the safe threshold; I can calculate it with my toes. At most, they'll be a little happier, temporarily forgetting the pain the tsunami brought them. If that stuff weren't ineffective against me, I'd have to take one myself. Or a whole bottle. Preferably a whole bottle."
"It's not necessarily the case when it's mixed with rum."
The emperor shook his head.
T'Challa noticed that he kept his hand on the hilt of his sword, his fingers constantly opening and closing. "There's not much Wakanda can do in this matter. I'll bring all the modified Talon fighters; they can act as bombers to drop bombs. If I had more time, I would have brought more," T'Challa said. "I want you to know that Wakanda and the Yugoslav Federation are on the same side when it comes to protecting the Earth and humanity."
"I need more direct help, T'Challa. The Southern Federation is still too weak. Look at the air force I have right now, it's all industrial products from Mars."
"You need to be patient. The collaboration is just starting out, so you can't ask for too much."
"What if I use my industrial aristocracy seat to initiate a motion demanding more technical personnel to participate in the construction? Supplementary clauses, some concessions."
"Hahnburg won't agree unless the Immortal City is willing to relinquish the patent for the turbo plasma booster technology, excluding materials science. Surrey has always wanted this technology; she never had access to it while working in the Immortal City..."
"Let her dream on. This is business, not her child's play at Harnburg." Emperor Latveria pulled out a data pad and dialed a number. A face T'Challa never expected appeared on the screen. "Are you fucking going to keep salvaging planes in the Atlantic or come over here, Tony Stark? If you want Stark Industries flooded, then keep delaying. I believe Steve Rogers can swim to the top. No CIA, no Air Force, or I'd rather shoot you down, understand?"
"I thought...you two had fallen out," T'Challa asked curiously. "Your Royal Guard fought with him."
"That's true, but we all know what the bottom line is. He's a good person, just a bit stupid."
