Chapter 1258 The Third Cosmic Velocity

Chapter 1258 The Third Cosmic Velocity (Second Update)

The warden and his troops were the most rigorous, vigilant, and resilient warriors of the entire Royal Guard. After undergoing trials of life and death and a ceremony of armor-making, they were not immediately assigned to duties. Instead, they were sent to a place unknown to anyone but the Emperor and the Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Guard to undergo further trials. Upon their successful return, they proved their ability to withstand the terrors of the universe with the coldest and most unyielding minds. These two Royal Guards were immediately dispatched to the Kamar-Taj dungeons to guard the prisoners within those bizarre chambers—prisoners could be living beings, objects, or even a sound, an image, or a wound in the fabric of spacetime. The Emperor endowed them with the most powerful and mysterious weapons and technologies, enabling them to carry out the tasks of capture and imprisonment. They were as ever vigilant as the Emperor's mind, and even the maddening, indescribable darkness of the prison could not break their spirit and discipline.

Hammurabi's only known prisoner was a wizard whose form was barely recognizable as a human, cobbled together from maggots, and connected to a massive earthquake off the east coast of North America and a desolate town in New England. This creature was originally human, but transformed into that indescribable being by corrupted magic. He was captured by the Emperor and his apprentice, Wanda Maximoff. Another former prisoner was Milia, now living in an Oxfordshire manor. While her danger had been eliminated and a witch had taken on the role of her tutor, Milia remained a pawn in the extradimensional lords' expansion into the material universe. If the extradimensional beings won, all of human civilization would face irreversible doom.

These were the least dangerous prisoners. All the secrets of that underground dungeon were known only to the High Priest of Kamar-Taj, the Emperor, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Praetorian Guard. When Hammurabi met his comrades, he immediately understood their resilience and ruthlessness. They represented the Emperor's most ruthless side; the black eagle reliefs on their shoulder armor, contrasting sharply with the red eagle reliefs on the other Praetorian Guard's shoulder armor, signified that they were the shadow of the Praetorian Guard, needing no respect from anyone except the Emperor and the Commander-in-Chief. These perpetually vigilant warriors guarded an elegantly designed golden device. The symbols on the decorative reliefs identified its origin, but the rough, insulated black cables surrounding the device appeared jarring and discordant. Excessive electrical energy was being transmitted through the cables into the device, forcibly powering it.

"Your Excellency," Constantine said, removing his helmet with great respect, "we are ready."

The Sorcerer Supreme stood before the device, hands behind his back, observing each member of the Royal Guard with keen interest. Although the Sorcerer Supreme, already quite tall for an ordinary person, appeared somewhat short compared to the towering Royal Guard, his imposing presence, honed over countless years, was no less imposing. "There exists a race in the universe called the Sovereign. They have eliminated the need for sexual reproduction, using bio-culture chambers to selectively cultivate citizens with specific talents." As the Sorcerer Supreme spoke, Constantine's face showed a rare hint of embarrassment. "It seems he's done a good job; the Royal Guard's genetic modification biotechnology is far superior to the Sovereign's."

“I’ve heard of the Sovereign race; they all have golden skin,” Amon said. “I’ve seen it in the alien races section of the library; it’s a theocratic state.”

"Then you certainly haven't heard how infatuated the High Priest of Sovereign is with your master," the Sorcerer Supreme chuckled, shaking his head, making Constantine even more embarrassed. His trial was the foundation for all the Royal Guard's trials, so he had participated in all the targeted training, including the Warden's trial. He naturally knew about the entanglement between the Emperor and that tall, beautiful, golden-skinned humanoid alien, and also knew the source of the Royal Guard's genetic alchemy theoretical verification. The Sorcerer Supreme's expression was relaxed, but the other Royal Guards dared not relax in the slightest. If they lost the Emperor, the ideals the Royal Guard was meant to protect would be meaningless. However, the Sorcerer Supreme was not affected by the Royal Guards' serious expressions. "We need to hurry, or some alien beauty will capture him."

"Please don't say such things anymore, Your Excellency."

"I know, I know." The Sorcerer Supreme clapped his hands, and several automated machines that had been charging in the standby slots immediately emerged from the Skysword Space Station hangar. "Come on, move this thing onto the Sky Battleship. This little boat can't get us to the Kobo Belt."

Before the hangar pressure could be rebalanced, the Sorcerer Supreme pressed a button to lower the ramp.

If an ordinary person standing here without a spacesuit were to die from a stroke, hypothermia, or other serious illness, the most likely outcome would be death. However, under the protection of magic, the Sorcerer Supreme behaved as if he were a person living on the surface of the earth. The artificial gravity on the sky battleship firmly kept the Sorcerer Supreme standing steadily on the metal floor of the hangar.

This was merely a battleship; aside from the cargo hold, the helipad could only accommodate a few aircraft. To make room for this Pegasus Heavy Assault Transport, several fighter jets had to be parked in a modified hangar at the Skysword Space Station. Despite the cramped space, the Sisterhood's leader still led her guard to the hangar to greet the arriving Royal Guard and the Sorcerer Supreme. As the Sisterhood's commander, Dita's power armor possessed a magnificence unmatched by her sisters. Numerous gold reliefs were inlaid on the alloy armor plates, a golden crown was welded onto her black and white helmet, and even her shoulder armor was inlaid with exquisitely cut gems. Constantine even noticed the longsword the Emperor had personally crafted for her at her waist, and her plasma pistol was a one-of-a-kind industrial product. The handcrafted black power armor was draped with a fur cloak made for her by the Emperor, all demonstrating Dita's deep favor with the Emperor.

As for Diana, she's on a different level, on the same level as the commander of the Imperial Guard.

The Sisterhood's position as a military and police force in Latvia is somewhat awkward, but in the Immortal City, they hold a remarkably high status. They are responsible for monitoring and guiding the development and training of the entire academy system. All battlefield orphans collected by the Immortal City must undergo the Sisterhood's ideological education and be instilled with loyalty. Even the candidates for the Royal Guard are selected from among these individuals. Therefore, the Royal Guard did not underestimate this android, nor did they simply regard her as the Emperor's pet. As for the human girls behind her, the Royal Guard treated them with courtesy rather than disdain. The Emperor had already instructed them that these ordinary people were the ones they needed to protect.

Dita removed her helmet, her sweat-dampened white hair clinging to her wheat-colored cheeks, her full, black-painted lips pressed tightly together. "Your Majesty, Constantine, and the Imperial Guard I don't recognize. I think we all agree that there's no time for pleasantries." Her slightly hoarse voice carried the crispness and directness characteristic of a soldier, though she seemed to harbor a certain hostility towards the Imperial Guard due to the Emperor's precarious situation and their replacement of the Sisterhood's functions. "Let's finish the mission as quickly as possible; he shouldn't be alone. I'm not blaming you; I know you have no veto power, because our master's wisdom far surpasses ours, and we find it difficult to understand him."

"Stop chatting, lads and ladies," the Venerable One said. "Start the engines and let's go."

In fact, the Sky Battleship's plasma reactor and engines were also insufficient to propel the ship to the edge of the solar system in a short time. Although the ship's speed had long exceeded the third cosmic velocity, enough to escape the gravity of the solar system, the distance between the Koboi Belt and Earth's orbit was simply too vast. This is why the Sorcerer Supreme was on the ship, helping the Sky Battleship overcome the limitations of gravity and time to shorten its journey.
